I’ve been to Cafe Zinc before a few times and had good experience. However, my last visit was very disappointed. I ordered Salmon that came with some sesame snappeas. The peas were not cleaned and prepped properly, stems were still on. I also found a couple fish bones in my salmon fillet. Told my waitress and she said she would tell the kitchen but that’s all she did to solve the situation. I chose Cafe Zinc for my birthday celebration but left rather disappointed.
The atmosphere is quaint. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and very professional. She recommended the asparagus and burrata which was wonderful. My son had filet which was melt in your mouth. I had vegetarian pad Thai with tofu which was exceptional. Will be back when in Midland.
Food is always good. Service is excellent but sometimes too loud and tables close together
I met friends I haven’t seen in a long time. We were put in a corner area which made it very easy to converse and hear each other. The food was very tasty and the service was great. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.
Kathy was our waitress she is excellent. It was my friends birthday celebration and we received a free dessert.
The food was spectacular! So much flavor, we were truly impressed. Fairly priced for the quality and quality. Our waitress Kathy was very nice, made friendly conversation, and helped us decide what we got to eat. That coffee was the best I've ever had! We will be back
Our favorite place when we're here for the summer.
Zinc seems to be slipping from its former levels. Food was ok although one of the breakfast items ordered - breakfast bruschetta was rather strange and pretty small. However main issue was the service. Lots of wait staff around who seem to feel like their responsibility is to doing anything needed except serve a customer with any degree of urgency.
Our reservation was at 11:30 and we attempted to order breakfast/brunch items on a Sunday when apparently breakfast is no longer served from 11:30 onward - not noted in their Open Table listing or on the menu. They eventually agreed the exception but it seemed like a big deal. I can think of many people who expect to be able to order a breakfast type dish at that time of day at the weekend. No fresh juice which was disappointing. All in all, they are charging big city prices but not delivering a product equivalent to that. Will not return for a while which is a shame given the limited options in town...
Zinc is not a sophisticated place by big city standards; I actually heard David Sedaris mock the place in a reading he gave in East Lansing. But Zinc works as fine dining here in mid michigan. My wife enjoyed her lamb dish, the wine was decent, and I really love it that they have now three decent and distinct vegetarian entree options, which (I think) are all also vegan. On this night, only two of them were available. There is obviously an actual chef; the food is good. They appear also to have good pastry desserts, but we ordered creme brulee which was done well. The service was a bit dodgy. Our server could not readily find menus for us when we arrived for our reservation because all of them were at other tables! And she then managed to recite the special for us three separate times over fifteen minutes, apparently forgetting that she had already done so. But given that the best restaurant closer is a simple place that takes no reservations, this is currently the best regional option for special occasions.
Delicious food and friendly, attentive service. Enjoyed the special: grilled chicken salad, and the brisket sandwich.
Service was a bit slow, it very friendly and good food.
Service was excellent! Food was amazing! It was really nice to be in such a clean, modern, elegant environment and be able to comfortable carry on a conversation with a large group!
The Zinc has very good food! This time, I had the sea bass and it was delicious! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I enjoyed sitting outside and the wait staff was attentive. We were going to sit inside, but the noise level was too loud.
Zinc is Midland’s best restaurant in my opinion. It has a varied menu with vegetarian/vegan options and the service and ambience are great! Also love their cocktails and extensive wine list. Cheers!
Great food and service!
The interior space is lovely. We sat at a table for two near the windows. For a weekday at 6, these tables were filled, and anyone coming in would sit at the long table (perched high). The service was friendly, attentive, and quick. The appetizers were excellent, as were the entrees. We especially liked the sauces made from vegetables (peas, parsnips), making a summer meal refreshing and tasty. The selection of cocktails are interesting and the one we shared was excellent - both fruity and robust. Wine list was also good. We didn't have beer with the meal, but many good Michigan brews were available. For dessert, you can choose from the bakery case. Homemade breads were interesting. We had a wonderful time there, while visiting Midland. We would go again. On a less hot day, the outdoor patio would be fun. In winter, an indoor fireplace would make it cozy. The excellent service made us feel special.
My sisters and I were visiting Dow Gardens in Midland and decided to try Cafe Zinc for dinner. We were certainly not disappointed! The pineapple margarita made with fresh pineapple was delicious as was the salad with avocado and bacon. We all ordered steak and it was cooked to order and flavorful. Of course you must leave room for dessert! We all ordered something different and we were all more than satisfied. I would happily recommend this restaurant. The only drawback is the noise level can be louder than is pleasant and our particular waiter was less than attentive. All in all a great food experience!
Best place to eat in Midland. I always make a point to have breakfast and dinner here. Great service and wonderful food.
This restaurant/cafe has been beautiful and top-notch since it first opened and it never disappoints. Prices are compatible to most fine dining and its always appreciated by out-of-town guests used to delicious and well-presented food. You can eat here at any time of day and it's open every day. Bread and baked goods here are also homemade and yummy!
Only issue was with my meal, which was noodle based. I was asked if I wanted to add chicken or shrimp, so I added shrimp (4 or 5 tasty shrimp came with the meal). However, in the bill the handful of extra shrimp cost nearly as much as the meal.
way over priced. menu and service methods haven't changed in years. $38 steak served with thin cut fries only? a side salad for $8, the real disappointment was the one selection of Merlot wine, $18 for a small pour. wouldn't recommend.
Amazing Brunch with my Dad for Father's Day. Excellent Service and the Eggs Benedict was the best I've ever had.
Our waitress was super friendly but very slow.
I had a salad, it’s was okay. My husband burger was great and he also loved the French onion soup. Our son didn’t like his salmon burger but that was not fault of the chef. The salmon burger was more salmon salad.
Great food. The waitress recommended the special and she was 100% correct. It was wonderful. The only thing that wasn’t perfect was our drinks were very strong and we had to ask for more tonic to dilute them. Otherwise a great experience!
We had a Most Fantastic Breakfast, the Quiche was almost indescribably delicious. The fresh items and attention to a small fruit salad that came with the breakfast offering was very well paired. I enjoy the comfort and room the seating between tables offers, so that conversation and looks can be more easily exchanged. I would think that having frequented the Zinc Cafe for the Last Two Years it would be very hard to find any kind of similar replacement. An Absolute Go To Place.
Cafe Zinc is a stylish restaurant with attentive staff and a wonderful kitchen. The steaks were tender and flavorful. The vegetables in this case carrots were fresh and well seasoned. The restaurant is located in the hotel and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an added bonus of a talented pastry chef who turns out delicious baked goods. The key lime tart was particularly noteworthy. Our server was excellent. I would definitely return if in the area again.
We always stop at Zinc for dinner when we are in Midland. My wife always has the Pappardelle Bolognese which she says is the best she's ever had. My entrees vary but all have been excellent.
The service was below average. We were not served bread or given any refills on coffee or water. I also had my open table reservation cancelled instead of receiving the points.
We met my husband's mother here on Mother's Day for lunch. She drove in from Traverse City, and us from Davisburg, which made it a good meeting spot. Our service was great, the food was great, and the ambiance just what we were looking for. We all had the Salmon. My husband had the french onion soup that I took a taste of and it was delicious! The soup of the day was something different that we had never heard of "Pear with Gorgonzola". Our waiter brought us out a taster, and it was oh so good! Surprised us all. Mother and I both ordered a cup of it.
I would recommend this establishment, and will go back when again in the area.
Excellent service, good variety, pleasant atmosphere & great taste!
Great breakfast. Cathy great waitress.
We're back for the spring/summer season, and Cafe Zinc is our favorite place in the area. We couldn't wait to get back to celebrate my birthday. Of course we weren't disappointed, though we were sad that Ruben was no longer on the menu. We both couldn't wait to have their fabulous bread again. Our favorite is the 9 (or 12) grain bread, though the French is also tasty. We both had the Manhattan Clam Chowder, one of my favorites, which you don't find it very often in the Midwest. It was wonderful with plenty of clams. I had the Mideastern plate with falafels, salad, beets, a paste and a garlic spread. Very yummy. Bob had the brisket sandwich with a salad. He really enjoyed it, but was missing the Ruben. The side salad that comes with the sandwiches is almost a meal in itself. Even the tea was special, in taste and presentation. Because it was my birthday I had the tripe mouse cake... beyond yummy. Bob had the blueberry tartlet, also fabulous. Can't wait for our next visit, perhaps brunch. Definitely worthy of a road trip if your not nearby. We're luckily 30 minutes away during the summer. Any closer and we'd be here every day!
IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO HAVE LUNCH OUTSIDE EXCEPT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION GOING ON AT THE m-20 BRIDGE AND THE COURTHOUSE! DUST AND DIRT ROLLING IN.
We both enjoyed the Quiche. It was a fun time for us to catch up with each other. Cafe Zinc is my favorite lunch spot‼️
Appreciated online reservation - got exactly what we asked for.
Excellent food and service. My steak and my wife’s scallop were cooked perfectly. Our “go to” place in Midland for a nice dinner date.
My husband and I made reservations for Easter lunch. I wish there had been some "special" food items for Easter rather than just the regular menu. It was nice that the breakfast service was extended to accommodate the "brunch" hour. My husband enjoyed his breakfast and my quesadilla was also good.
I made our reservation for Easter lunch one month in advance. Although we planned for the day in advance the restaurant staff did not. We were seated in the attached bar ( told there was no other option). It felt as if the air conditioning was running even with multiple space heaters positioned through out the room.
There was one other table occupied in the room.
It was too cold to relax and enjoy our meals as we have in the past.
We had breakfast on Easter Sunday. Delicious. They usually have at least one special for each meal. Food was served quickly and hot. Nice choices!
We were seated promptly, given menus and told the evening special. There were many entrees that looked good. After a drink choice, we placed our order. The two we chose were tasty and just the right amount. The food was good and the wait staff friendly to the point of being happy (something not seen very often today). We will be back.
