Brown & Loe
In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. The new Brown and Loe Restaurant celebrates the techniques of curing, pickling and smoking meats, beautifully interpreted into marvelous American comfort cuisine. This is a true local venue, evidenced by the restaurant’s allegiance to the resident farmers and food artisans who supply most of the restaurant’s fresh ingredients.
Brown and Loe Restaurant is the second dining concept introduced by Harry Murphy, owner of the City Market’s popular Harry’s Country Club.

Excellent brunch and not too busy (though we went during a Chiefs game so that helps!) Lots of variety on the brunch menu and some unique options like hash with kimchi and the Hot Ham and Cheese with candied jalapenos. Good drink menu too. Service was attentive, but not overly friendly. Much better experience for brunch than the one time we've been for dinner. We'll go back!
Great place to celebrate a birthday with family! Enjoyed the outdoor seating next to the River Market.
Everything we ordered was just up a notch from what we expected. Monkey bread? Upside down with a sugar shell. Ham and cheese sandwich? Add pimento and bacon. Asian infused corned beef hash was fantastic too. A great place I can’t wait to come back to!
Very enjoyable experience. Nice choice of food and wine. Patio is very nice and relaxing
We had such an amazing experience tonight celebrating our 1yr wedding anniversary with my wife and parents. Service was great and the food was outstanding. Even the cocktails we had were delicious.
Great use of an old bank building. Food and staff were great.
We have now eaten here twice, so our second visit was clearly based on a positive experience the first time. Visitors need to know that weekend visits are during the City Market, and parking is, at best, a challenge. Come prepared to look for parking, or park downtown and take the Street Car. Our visit was again very good. The food, service and ambiance are all quite good. This was the second visit in a row when they were having difficulty with coffee service, and nothing gets my attention more in a morning that being denied coffee. They did the best they could to substitute coffee drinks (e.g. Latte), but I am a black coffee kind of guy, and this was a downer to me. I also wonder about a problem to such a basic service that has been lacking twice. Can anyone spell "Mr. Coffee?" I am sure we will be back. It is a very old-school kind of place with a lot of charm. Our server was terrific.
It was our first visit to Brown & Loe. Our reservation was at 5pm because Open Table said it was full until 8pm. We drove from Topeka so we didn't want to eat late. However, there were plenty of tables open when we arrived at 5pm and when we left about 6:30pm. Service was great, food was delicious, and drinks were cold. We would eat there again and recommend to our friends.
Loud. Slow service. Forgot an appetizer.
Table was ready when we arrived and waitress was attentive. Food was superb!
We were celebrating a special birthday. Food was fantastic!
I love this place. It feels like an old school diner in NYC. The atmosphere is very unique. My sister got the meatloaf and loved it. I had the fish sandwich with a side salad and it was excellent. I’ve been here twice before and will definitely be back!!
Great experience all the way around. Sitting on the patio was perfect!
Wonderful brunch selections on the patio on a slightly chilly but still beautiful Sunday ! Food was innovative and delicious - as always.
Brunch with a friend. Service was great. Food is always good.
I always try something new when I’m at Brown & Loe and I’ve not been disappointed yet.
A fantastic dinner seated outside on the porch. Started with Prosecco cocktails that were refreshing paired with calamari. The calamari was outstanding--nicely lightly breaded and crispy but not greasy. Main course was pork chop and salmon. Both were cooked perfectly and delicious. For dessert had the Lambic beer float that was exceptional. Great service and will definitely return!
Went for brunch for my husbands birthday.. everything was good but not overly exceptional . Will try it again but as it was a bit of a drive from our home probably wouldn’t go out of our way to get there..
Server was walking away when we were ordering… it was odd. Couldn’t really hear her and she was not making eye contact either. Good food, beautiful place, crap service.
Beefy bartender on the other hand was a doll! He was so polite, so engaging… need more of him.
This is the best spot for brunch or any other meal in all of KC. The owner is the loveliest person always so sweet and kind. Food is always exceptional. The mushroom and goat cheese crepe, my husband had the German Chocolate Cake that looked like a dream and he rated it the best ever.
Brown & Loe is the perfect neighborhood brunch spot. Whether you want traditional brunch fare or a hamburger, there's something for everyone on the menu. Definitely try the Orange Creamsicle. It's light and not too sweet.
Our server was wonderful. The food was great, and had little touches making each dish unique. Happy hour prices of apps was our ticket to a schmorgesborg! Salmon cakes, poke nachos, meatloaf, and KC strip. Yum!
Our server was excellent and she had a fantastic suggestion for our drinks which we loved. The Banh mi sandwich was so delicious. Can’t wait to go back
One of our favorite places to eat in the city. This time we went with the meatloaf (my son), the hot chicken sandwich (my husband), and the spaghetti squash (for me). The ice cream of the day was peach with cinnamon and absolute perfection.
This was my first time trying Brown & Loe and it was Amazing!! I will definitely it let becoming back for more dinners and I will have to try out there brunch as well! I got their Spaghetti Squash, that was filled with delicious Brussels sprouts and Mushrooms and it was really good! Also I would highly recommend trying one of their delicious desserts! We got the Key Lime Pie! :)
Adorable historic building right by river market!!! Food was great and ambience awesome!!!
loved it. Their menu is eclectic and delicious. I loved that there are some real old fashioned gems on it that you wouldn't get a chance to try otherwise.
I chose to sit outside which was a wonderful choice! I tried the limeade and the salmon cakes for the first time and both were great! Ordered the smoked Gouda Mac and it was okay.. I’m sure cheese lover would enjoy it very much. Ordered the Russian Grand Duke (fave!) but it tasted like cough syrup!! The service was incredibly slow.. though the restaurant wasn’t very busy. I sat at my table from 11:40 until 1:15. Way too long for my liking. I wish my waitress had came by a bit more often and observed that I was obviously done and ready for my tab.
All love. I will be back for brunch!
There are many good choices but the menu isn’t overwhelming.
Go for the cocktails, stay for nothing else. Ambience is cool.
Great meatloaf meal and Lambic float for dessert.
Stacey was attentive and friendly. Happy Hour ! Korean Short Ribs wrap was spectacular. Calamari was excellent. Chicken sliders were good and I would order them again, but not quite as delicious as the short ribs and calamari. Sat outside and it was pleasant. All glasses wines were $7, which was nice. Told 4 other people about it today. Will definitely return. Soon!
I have visited this restaurant before and had a good experience; however, this was not a good visit. I came with co-workers and the food quality and appearance was not inviting. The waitress was slow with the check and we left thinking we wouldn't be coming back anytime soon.
All around great experience. Good was delicious snd atmosphere very nice. Historic building is cool!
I love this place. I always go when I want to treat myself to something nice
Great food and an excellent shaded patio. Lunch for 9 was on time and attentive service.
Had something to eat
Get the mushroom toast and the korean short ribs. They were both fantastic.
Delicious food and strong drinks! I love Brown and Loe!
Delicious food! Highly recommend. The River Market is a fun location too!
