Brown & Loe
In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. The new Brown and Loe Restaurant celebrates the techniques of curing, pickling and smoking meats, beautifully interpreted into marvelous American comfort cuisine. This is a true local venue, evidenced by the restaurant’s allegiance to the resident farmers and food artisans who supply most of the restaurant’s fresh ingredients.
Brown and Loe Restaurant is the second dining concept introduced by Harry Murphy, owner of the City Market’s popular Harry’s Country Club.

This is the best spot for brunch or any other meal in all of KC. The owner is the loveliest person always so sweet and kind. Food is always exceptional. The mushroom and goat cheese crepe, my husband had the German Chocolate Cake that looked like a dream and he rated it the best ever.
Brown & Loe is the perfect neighborhood brunch spot. Whether you want traditional brunch fare or a hamburger, there's something for everyone on the menu. Definitely try the Orange Creamsicle. It's light and not too sweet.
Our server was wonderful. The food was great, and had little touches making each dish unique. Happy hour prices of apps was our ticket to a schmorgesborg! Salmon cakes, poke nachos, meatloaf, and KC strip. Yum!
Our server was excellent and she had a fantastic suggestion for our drinks which we loved. The Banh mi sandwich was so delicious. Can’t wait to go back
One of our favorite places to eat in the city. This time we went with the meatloaf (my son), the hot chicken sandwich (my husband), and the spaghetti squash (for me). The ice cream of the day was peach with cinnamon and absolute perfection.
This was my first time trying Brown & Loe and it was Amazing!! I will definitely it let becoming back for more dinners and I will have to try out there brunch as well! I got their Spaghetti Squash, that was filled with delicious Brussels sprouts and Mushrooms and it was really good! Also I would highly recommend trying one of their delicious desserts! We got the Key Lime Pie! :)
Adorable historic building right by river market!!! Food was great and ambience awesome!!!
loved it. Their menu is eclectic and delicious. I loved that there are some real old fashioned gems on it that you wouldn't get a chance to try otherwise.
I chose to sit outside which was a wonderful choice! I tried the limeade and the salmon cakes for the first time and both were great! Ordered the smoked Gouda Mac and it was okay.. I’m sure cheese lover would enjoy it very much. Ordered the Russian Grand Duke (fave!) but it tasted like cough syrup!! The service was incredibly slow.. though the restaurant wasn’t very busy. I sat at my table from 11:40 until 1:15. Way too long for my liking. I wish my waitress had came by a bit more often and observed that I was obviously done and ready for my tab.
All love. I will be back for brunch!
There are many good choices but the menu isn’t overwhelming.
Go for the cocktails, stay for nothing else. Ambience is cool.
Great meatloaf meal and Lambic float for dessert.
Stacey was attentive and friendly. Happy Hour ! Korean Short Ribs wrap was spectacular. Calamari was excellent. Chicken sliders were good and I would order them again, but not quite as delicious as the short ribs and calamari. Sat outside and it was pleasant. All glasses wines were $7, which was nice. Told 4 other people about it today. Will definitely return. Soon!
I have visited this restaurant before and had a good experience; however, this was not a good visit. I came with co-workers and the food quality and appearance was not inviting. The waitress was slow with the check and we left thinking we wouldn't be coming back anytime soon.
All around great experience. Good was delicious snd atmosphere very nice. Historic building is cool!
I love this place. I always go when I want to treat myself to something nice
Great food and an excellent shaded patio. Lunch for 9 was on time and attentive service.
Had something to eat
Get the mushroom toast and the korean short ribs. They were both fantastic.
Delicious food and strong drinks! I love Brown and Loe!
Delicious food! Highly recommend. The River Market is a fun location too!
Food was great, service too. Can’t wait to come back. On this trip construction noises from upstairs soured the ambience.
Delicious food, wonderful service! The Italian cream soda was perfect.
Very nice meal
We stopped in for brunch and everything was delicious! The orange juice for the mimosas was freshly squeezed! The chicken and waffles were crispy and the buttered corn meal waffles paired perfectly with the hot chicken. My friends ordered the breakfast tacos, the mushroom and cheese crepe, and the biscuits and gravy. We will be back!
It was an interesting menu (watermelon salad), the calamari was a happy hour special and quite good. Our server Hannah stayed very busy with a sizable crowd on the patio, but she always presented a cheerful smile, and kept my water glass full.
We'll go back.
Food was delicious! Loved our cocktails! Good Service!
Calamari is a shockingly good appetizer, the best I’ve ever had!
I had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans! SO GOOD! My guest had the steak and asparagus! You only needed a butter knife to cut!
The menu has a nice array of choices, but is limited enough that each dish is done very well. Loved the Chef’s Board app - perfect for two to four people. Great service and beautiful outdoor seating.
Great for a date after the market!
Still a little under staffed, but the food is AMAZING!!!!
Great food, great service, and awesome vibe! #KC
A restaurant that is consistently good. BL has the largest chefs board in the world, loaded with meat, cheeses and compliments. Bring a crew if you order it.
Amazing food and service. I had the spaghetti squash and it was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend this place for a casual lunch.
All was good except we were seated by a credit card machine, fan and other restaurant supplies when there was plenty of space to seat us in a nicer area with better ambiance.
Have always loved the fun cocktails offered at B & L. Unfortunately, the ones we received this time were packed with crushed ice and very little else. More like a slushee but without any flavor. Disappointing start to special night out.
Always have had great food here, especially as it isn’t expensive. The tuna poke is fantastic and my personal favorite is the Nashville hot chicken sandwich.
We had an amazing meal at Brown & Loe. There was great food and awesome service.
Great cocktail prices and appetizers. Nice ambiance in a historic building
Little twists on basic diner foods. Spicy mayo on a tenderloin. White BBQ sauce on a Nashville hot.
Skip the gyro (overwrought) and fondue (sour wine, overpowering) get the crispy tender tenderloin, crispy sprouts, gouda mac or if you're at brunch, get the Loco moco. I hope they bring back the MOJO pork next season.
Happy hour is 👌 compared to the many bars around. You can get a rye pbr boiler maker for 4 bucks.
