    Great place and very warm atmosphere and ambiance. Our waitress was the less friendly we had in our 3-week trip in the US. The halibut was cold but after asking I received another warm dish. Without doubt a place not to miss in the City! Reserve in advance.

    This restaurant is living off its past reputation. The 3 course requirement at 120.00 per person is to high for the quality of the cooking. The first course was so salty I could not eat it. The desert was so badly prepared I question who is overseeing the kitchen. We were sad that this restaurant has slipped so far. I told our waiter about the over salted food and no offer to replace or refund just a shrug! Not what a high quality restaurant response.

    Lovely dinning experience; we had a very nice experience. Thoughtful and accommodating staff, very relaxing and attractive environment. The service was personable (including a signed b-day card), cocktails and wine were very good, the food (including tasty amuse bouche) was very good, but not necessarily fantastic (we've eaten at B on past occasions and perhaps have enjoyed fantastic meals), and the dessert selections was quite tasty (and the after dinner chocolates and pate de fruits were very thoughtful). The fixed price ($119/pp which does not include the SF employee service (health care) fee) is too high, imo, even with all the loveliness, In this price range, imo, the employee service fee should be handled by the restaurant (as in other SF businesses), and not blatantly added to the patrons' bills, in addition to tax. Anyway, dinner for two, with one glass of wine and one cocktail each, with additional 20% on subtotal tip ($60) totaled $412 and change. Definitely, for most people, a very, very special occasion meal, perhaps de riguere for those with too much money. Bon appétit.

    We were not sure if it was worth the trip from our hotel (2 miles) and almost cancelled the reservation. Turned out to be the date night for my wife and me. The whole experience was outstanding- the staff, our server, the ambiance and the food! The team made it special. Thank you

    I think the food has suffered since the remodel. The service is great and the ambience, too. But I'm also not a fan of the required 3-course fixed price menu.

    Beautiful atmosphere and fabulous service. Great place for a special occasion. Unfortunately, I did not follow my waiter's suggestions and ordered the halibut. I was in the mood for fish. It was so bland and uninspired. A bit overcooked. However, my husband loved his porkchop and we both loved the lobster bisque and desserts.

    Exquisite caviar service: hot buckwheat blinis for our caviar order were kept very warm resting on a heated stone. Ask for Mare to serve you. All-time best - unobtrusive, kind and informed attention. Mare is worthy of a double gratuity.

    Wow, my wife and I really enjoyed this! First time eating at a restaurant of this level. Amazing food and service. It wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny.

    I was craving for their abalone which was very good. Now, they only gave you two thin slices and hardly tasted the flavor. the noodle underneath was overcooked and heavily sauced. The tomato salad was salted unevenly, some piece was super salty and the some piece not salted so you get a jolt of super salty and not salty. I would have preferred no salt at all rather than getting uneven shocked. portion was generous for main course so you are full but not satisfied with the taste. The caviar was excellent with really good potatoes and buckwheat bellini. I would go back just for the caviar if they let me. the service was perfect.

    We had a reservation to return for our third or fourth meal at Boulevard, this time for our wedding anniversary. I’d identified this special occasion when making the reservation and on our table was a nice hand written note in congratulations. In the course of our meal we were served our starters by our waiter, who had taken our order. I looked, but did not see her again until we were finished with our main course. Our waiter later returned to our table to pick up our mains plates and asked how everything was. I calmly repeated to her what I’d told her colleague, my abalone starter was tasteless and so tough I couldn’t cut it with my knife. I elaborated that I had to put the entire piece of abalone meat into my mouth, and that it chewed like I imagine a piece of tire would, and with no flavor. The supporting mayonnaise and shredded vegetable was flavorless as well. Her response was to smile and say only “Why didn’t you tell me?” This shocked me into silence. The obvious rejoinder would have been “because I didn’t see you until now, and, I am telling you now” but it was our anniversary and I wasn’t in the mood for a confrontation with the waitstaff. After brief pause, she continued “if you’d told me I could have replaced the dish. We had a problem a few weeks ago with the abalone being tough.” No apology. A known problem. We were left alone after we ordered dessert. Later we paid the full bill, nothing was taken off the list, nothing offered extra as a make up. Usually a restaurant will take an item identified as substandard off the bill, and/or offer something as a makeup, a free glass of wine, a free dessert, etc. But in this case we received no apology, simply accused by our server of not telling her, and nothing taken off our bill of $452 for two people. Though I normally tip 18% or more I tipped only 10% because of what I felt was poor, unpleasant, service. Total bill was $487.81 It’s very hard to imagine why they would see us again. -N. Wenner

    Boulevard continues to bring it. I first ate here over 20 years ago when I lived in San Francisco. I thought it was amazing back then. This time I wanted to share the experience with a friend and I was glad to see they're still knocking it out of the park. One of the best culinary experiences in the bay area!

    To start off with a positive, the starters were great. Unfortunately the entrees (pork chop and steak) were just OK. The entrees would have been better with less “stuff” on them. The service was just so so. We had lots of time waiting for our plates to be cleared, waters refilled, offered more bread etc. Also, seeing 4 staff members having dinner at the bar, while we were dining, was off putting. 1 of the staff having dinner was the sommelier who we consulted for our bottle of wine with dinner (which he’d never had). He never came back to check in with us on how we liked the wine etc. Boulevard has always been a special restaurant for us but after last night’s experience, we’ll probably think twice about going back.

    Beautiful interior, uneven food quality. The newly re-done space is inviting and beautiful. We ordered an appetizer - the squash blossom - and it was excellent. The steak, ordered medium, came out rare and was relatively bland. The other main - halibut with crab risotto was a study in contrasts - the crab risotto was great, but the main part of the dish (halibut) was under-seasoned and disappointing. The dessert - a pavlova - was too hard to cut into. Overall, a very mixed dining experience.

    We have been going to Boulevard for many years but were disappointed in the price fixed 3 course forced selections Had we initially seen that you can order al la carte at the bar or chefs table we would have preferred that They should offer both choices in the dining room Sure it’s easier on the kitchen and more profitable to offer the 3 course but this is fine dining Not sure we will be back

    Hi. Thanks for your feedback. Yes, our a la carte menu is available in the bar, lounge, and chef's counter. Our dining room is reserved only for the 3 selection menu as you noticed. Reservations online and through the phone are confirmed and stated with menu information as well. We do hope to see you again.

    3rd time is a charm? The first two times we ate at Boulevard we ate at the chef’s counter and we loved it~actually wanted to do it a 3rd time but my wife’s sister preferred a table so we did and boy was it amazing. Pre fixe menu and we loved it all~ Boulevard we look forward to our return!!!

    We love Boulevard! We go there on special occasions to celebrate birthdays and our anniversary. We love the atmosphere and decor. The service is exceptional. Last night Dino was our waiter, as he had been at least once before. We were especially happy that he led us to our favorite table in the front corner looking out at the Embarcadero. I watched the lights on the Bay bridge sparkle, and I looked across to the Ferry Building, where I go early every Saturday morning to the farmers' market. The service, the food, the ambiance, the sheer pleasure of being there again is delightful. In short, everything about Boulevard is exceptional. We always look forward to returning. Thank you to everybody working there; you do a fantastic job and we are grateful. Crystal Gromer

    Sat at the Chef’s Counter. Dinner and a show. What an amazing perch from which to enjoy the cooks at work. Excellent teamwork and coordination. Specials on the ‘30 Year Anniversary’ feature some hits from the past, like the mini burger and the squash blossom. Superb attentive service, excellent wines. An excellent evening. Thanks to all!

    There is excellent, there is exquisite and, somewhere above and beyond that, there is Boulevard. There is a reason (actually, many reasons) why Boulevard is one of SF's temples of fine dining. It starts with its beautiful dining room, proceeds to its welcoming, gracious, professional, and attentive service, continues to the expertly-prepared and creatively presented food, and concludes with its stellar wine list. I cannot say enough for the restaurant's staff and their attentiveness. This is about more than accommodating dietary requests. We felt genuinely welcome and appreciated, which contributed greatly to our special evening. Boulevard is celebrating its 30th anniversary, not an easy feat in our city. Their success is well-deserved. It may be a while before we are able to return (Boulevard is definitely a "special occasion" restaurant for us), but return we will.
