The Black Hat Cattle Co. is the place to go if you're in the mood for a dining experience that goes beyond its great food. Our western decor beckons you with music, laughter, conversation & warm hospitality - hang your hat and stay awhile! If you love 100% natural premium cuts of beef, this steakhouse is the place for you. Our steaks are aged a minimum of 21 days & hand cut daily to maximize flavor & tenderness. We season our steaks with only salt & pepper and grill them at a searing 1800 degrees so you can taste the difference in our all natural beef. If you don't like beef, this is the place for you too. We offer a diverse menu including St Louis Style Ribs; chicken dishes and a variety of tempting fresh fish & seafood entrees. We go beyond the obvious quality of food & drink - we embrace the welcoming spirit of the West.

The food was excellent and so was the service. The music selection of old country was great. Dining here was a great experience.

We are new to the area and I had read good reviews about this restaurant on another website so we decided to go for dinner. The place is charming western décor, very clean and well maintained. We had a nice bottle of Merlot and steaks. My husband had to try the mountain oyster appetizer while I opted for the soup of the day. The bread pudding dessert is to die for. The portions were good and overall it was an enjoyable meal. Also our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Only negative I can say is it was a bit on the pricey side. We plan to return again soon.

Great time once again. Birthday diner for 4. Is high end price wise but awesome steaks. Our grandson wanted shrimp which seems a shame at a steak house however they were huge and good. He could not even finish them. We will always go back.

We ate at Black Hat early on a Friday evening. There were only maybe 20 people when we arrived. We were seated immediately. The table was fairly close to the door but there was never notable noise. We had appetizers through dessert. All the meals were good. Mussels appetizer was tasty and the mussels were cooked nicely; too often restaurants shy away from cooking them long enough for fear of drying them out. Most of us had steaks for dinner. They were as good as you'll find in most any restaurant. I rated them [and all the food] at 4 of 5 because I reserve 5s for truly outstanding food.
Although the crowd here seems mostly local, the prices are high enough that it falls into a high-end category. I regularly recommend this to friends for special-occasion dinners. For most people, the prices are just a bit high for regular dining.

I asked for my sirloin to be "very rare", which typically results in a medium rare steak at most restaurants. For that reason, I typicall don't order steak at restaurants. My wife talked me into it here, and it was done to perfection. Grill marks and yet "very rare" on the inside. My wife was giving me a hard time for how rare it was, and I told her it was perfect. Her dinner was excellent also. We go to the Black hat every year for our anniversary (we used to go when it was the Tivoli Deer many years ago. Food is different and much better than back then. The menu doesn't really change like at some restaurants, but that is ok as you know what to expect.

Our waitress was very attentive, and we got a nice dessert on the house for our anniversary. We were so full, though, that we had to take it home. Looking forward to next year (or maybe we will find an excuse to go before then).

Friendly and homey, with great food, superior service, and close to home. I really love that they do not flinch when I order my steak RARE!

There are so many great things on the menu - I especially love the shrimp ceviche as a appetizer, followed up with a rare filet mignon. One thing that is especially great is that everything is made in-house, so you can be sure what is going into your food. I suffer from Celiac Disease and can eat here safely.

The atmosphere is relaxing, without lots of annoying noise that you find in so many restaurants. Background music is kept in the background and dinner conversation isn't a chore because it isn't necessary to shout over the sounds of the kitchen, other diners or the old time country-western sound track that plays during your visit. They keep the music at a moderate level which is really important if you want to talk to your dinner companion. I also think the pleasant noise level is due to the fact that the floor has carpet.

The service is always first rate. The owner is often at the front door to greet you when you come in and say goodbye when you leave. The wait-staff are all on the ball, and friendly - I have never had them mess up an order. There are no bad tables.

Black Hat is becoming a tradition for special occasions. It isn't a "stuffy" place but there is an upscale rustic feel to the place that makes it appropriate for holiday dining. We like to come here on Christmas Eve and this is also a great place to have dinner just before enjoying the annual New Year's fireworks display at Evergreen Lake!

Western theme, a little hoky but fun. Waitress was a little too chatty but otherwise loved the experience and again, Very Best Steaks ever. Worth the price.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner... This restaurant has tender flavorful steaks, great service, traditional country music to enjoy while having dinner, and a nice wine list! Enjoyable evening!

Father's Day dinner, and staff was spread a little too thin. Staff was nice, but overwhelmed. Waited for our drink orders, but never once were we asked if we'd like another one until the end of our meal. The waiter apologized upon realizing he had forgot. They had younger staff filling water cups like crazy, but not tea. We ordered a seafood appetizer which was amazing considering its a steak place! For our main courses we ordered a butchers steak, which was very flavorful and tender, with creamed corn, loved it! Next was prime rib, which the waiter told us is not a typical menu item, it was tough and a little dry (no aujus or horseradish either) with mixed vegetables (a little too over seasoned and spicy), as well as a medium cooked sirloin that was a bit tough. We were not checked on was dinner was served. Our experience took over 2 hours start to finish. I think they need more waiters, and support staff as ours never checked to see if we needed anything and continued to take on additional tables. Great ambiance inside and a beautiful drive on the way up. Loved the cowboy atmosphere but have honestly had better prime rib and steaks elsewhere for less money, but still impressed with how the seafood was cooked and tasted. Hope they improve on the tenderness of the meat, and more attentive staff, we would love to go back and enjoy all aspects of this restaurant.

We went here almost 6 years ago for our first anniversary and we were able to come again (kids went to Grandma's) for a peaceful dinner. The steaks were amazing as were the sides. The server wasn't too friendly, however, all the food was great and our drinks were never empty! We will definitely be back, but much sooner than 6 years!!

We tried this restaurant because of the positive reviews. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this restaurant. The wine list is very limited but adequate. For starters we had caesar salad with anchovies. The dressing had little flavor. We ordered elk medallions and filet mignon for our mains. The steak was good but the elk was tough although well cooked. We advised the server that the chef had cooked the elk appropriately but that it was very tough--all 3 orders. She said she would advise the chef but never offered any discount--that is $38 per plate! Disappointing really. I expected more. The place has potential though. I will not be back as there are many other options.

We have been to the Black Hat several times and it has been wonderful every time. We took friends from Louisiana this time and they just raved about it. I highly recommend the dry aged ribeye it is every bit as good as Mortens and Elways steaks for half the price when you take in the fact you get 2 sides with it. The cream corn is a must side if your a corn fan it's not your everyday cream corn it's on a level all by it's self.

We enjoy Black Hat so much and prefer to go there for our birthdays and anniversaries. We really enjoy visiting the Black Hat during prom season. It's wonderful to see the high-schoolers all spiffed up. We are always welcomed at the door. Wonderful atmosphere. We request a window seat so that we can enjoy the beautiful, breath-taking views of the surrounding area. Food is wonderful and the service is very good.

Well this has become our favorite place to go for great food (steak) for our special occasions, such as Valentines day, birthdays, anniversaries, and once in a while an early dine when we are traveling up to Evergreen. Thanks to the wait staff who was always prompt and wanting to make sure we had an evening of dining, not just a dinner and drinks.

Dave (the owner) was there to great us at the front door when we arrived and made sure through the whole meal that we had a great experience. Our server was awesome and the new Hanger steak was perfect. Can't wait to get back.
