Black & Blue - Waterloo
We believe that to produce the best food, you should work with all your suppliers on a close and personal basis. We acquired our own butchers, Jefferies in Kingston, so that we could control our meat all the way from the abattoir to the table. This helps ensure that our steaks and handmade burgers are of the highest quality.
In 1999, the boys decided that they wanted to bring a high-street, high-quality steak concept to London, Black & Blue and the first modern American steakhouse in the capital, was born.
Very very very very very very very very very ordinary
Food good service good ambience good. What more do you want?
Really great meal
On our way to theatre quick service not rushed
Can’t wait to go back
Under the arches great atmosphere, great service , starters were fresh and very tasty, the steak for main course was the best I have ever had ! Only staying locally for 6days but will return on our last evening for sure. Open Table app worked really well , boomed table and arrived within 1 hour. Our name was on the system and table all ready for us
Everything was spot on. Better than Miller & Carter and Steak and Lobster restaurants i have been to. My only slight gripe was half way through the meal this music was turned up a bit loud and being Christmas Eve i didn't want to ask to turn it down.
Great bar scene, pleasant staff, nice pub food. Would definitely come back. Perfect for pre-theatre dinner.
Food quality and service is good. Location is perfect next to Waterloo. Temperature inside the restaurant was rather warm, however that's minor.
Good food, Nice environment, reasonable price for location. Excellent, warm friendly service.
A fantastic meal before concert at festival hall. Vegetation options especially tasty!
the food is fantastic the services was very good will definitely be back, thank you for a wonderful night
They were very friendly and coped well despite the time of the year when it was so busy.
Staff and Service were excellent, made our visit a great one. We will be coming back. Thank you
Very good overall. Booked through Opentable earlier in the day, and were shown to our table as soon as we arrived, although we were a bit early. Service was excellent, and our food arrived as ordered in good time. Will definitely go again.
Lovely food and a really nice place which was very convenient to meet a bunch of friends near Waterloo. I would have given 5 stars, but when I arrived I held the door open for a guy, only to realise he was actually peeing against the (glass) door of the restaurant. A hazard of the location I fear and totally not their fault, but it definitely gave me a bit of a shock. On the upside I saw a willy, which definitely was unexpected for an evening out with my girls!!
An excellent meal, service, everything was perfect! We had a reservation and when we entered I asked not to be sat in the middle of the restaurant (yrs ago in a barbecue place I had a platter of food hit me) I’m more relaxed against the wall and out of the flow of traffic. While it was a busy night the staff where able to sit the two of us at a four top which we very much appreciated. They could not have been more gracious and welcoming. Everything after took the same course, the service was attentive, the food delicious and the price was very reasonable.
For our appetizers, my partner had the leek and potato soup and I had the asparagus with hollandaise, we ended up sharing because they were both delicious. For our mains my partner had the steak and frites and I had the grilled jumbo prawns that came with frites and salad, we both enjoyed our mains, but the grilled jumbo prawns won out! And finally dessert, we both enjoyed the vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso, a perfect end to a great meal.
We’re both thinking we want to go back just to have dinner even on a regular night, no point in waiting for a date night!
Always a reliable place to go .
4th time this year
Convenience from Waterloo and good food make this a great place to eat before after a trip to London. Ribs very good as was the chicken skewers
Food is good. Most of the staff are friendly. But when asked if one item on the menu for sharing is enough for two ppl , our waitress didn’t offer any helpful advice, just impatiently repeated what’s said on the menu. Overall a nice place to have a casual dinner, depends on which waitress/waiter you get.
Food was quite basically cooked and presented for the price. Nothing special about it compared to other similarly priced steak restaurants.
‘well done’ steak still very pink in the middle.
Ambiance and temperature was a bit cold next to a large glass window on a chilly evening.
Those hosting/serving us were all-round excellent though.
Great food and very reasonable value for that part of London I think. Smiley happy staff who were a bit rushed off their feet but certainly did their best to accommodate. Would definitely visit again.
Great place we dropped in to for lunch
Music was particularly to my wife's liking
Food was simple and tasty
Very average food. Bland salads and frozen chips. Overpriced. £31 for the tiniest filet steak I’ve ever been served.
A good bet for pre-theatre in this area. The food was well presented, staff were very friendly and everything was to a good standard.
It was a great night
Group of 6 friends had a fantastic meal on a Friday night, I had the ribeye cooked to medium and was just how I like it. Staff very friendly and efficient, have previously been to the London Bridge restaurant and am happy to recommend both, good quality food with price reasonable for central London.
Fantastic steak and burger and really good cocktails. Mains are let down by the fries which are decidely McDonaldish, so netx time I'd go for a different side.
We booked on the day and were glad we did as it was busy, that said the service was brilliant and we were waited on perfectly. The Rib Eye steaks we had were cooked exactly to order and were very good quality.
We were here for my daughter birthday while in London for her birthday overall.
All really good, service lacking because they were busy.
They remembered my daughter’s birthday and gave her a free desert. We had forgotten that we had noted this on the reservation so a big plus.
Great place for meat and drinks. Live music was appreciated.
We had a great lunch for my husband's birthday on Saturday. The food and the service were excellent and we will definitely be going back again!
This was a pre-theatre lunch. We arrived at 12.30 and good booth.
Very impressed with the food, staff and location - just outside Waterloo station.
Food was creative diner - good steaks, burgers, ribs etc...
Starters were tasty and inventive.
Main courses were good portions, hot and well presented.
Staff were fun and polite, attentive but not over the top.
Overall, highly recommended if you need a good lunch near Waterloo station.
Truely the best steak I have ever had anywhere!
Food ok service very poor. Staff not attentive and abrupt at times.
Dated and average food
I bring my elderly parents here regularly as it’s a located between us. We are all very well looked after by the amazing staff who even recognise us now we’ve been coming so long...it’s still one of our favourite places and we’ll definitely keep coming!
Not really up to scratch, meal was slow and when it arrived the steak was over cooked but just did not have time to send it back and it was not overly busy
Staff were good but the kitchen needs sorting
Great place to eat.
Good food , excellent service and value.
Staff very friendly and helpful
Book early for a decent table
Great juicy steak
Stakes were not cooked as asked for and thought it was expensive for just a plate of a steak and chips
Every year my husband and I visit London, and ALWAYS make a point to have one meal at Black & Blue. We have not been disappointed doing this for the past 10 years (first few times at Wigmore St location, more recently at Waterloo location). The perfect meal for us consists of filet mignon paired with a lovely Argentinian Malbec. I'm partial to the peppercorn sauce. And don't forget the sauteed mushrooms, which are always perfectly cooked. Their house salad is unique, with walnuts and cheese. And we can never pass up the cheese board, which has a balanced selection of four delicious cheeses. Service is always top-notch, from the time you're greeted at the door and seated, all the way through to paying the bill. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a perfectly cooked, melt-in-your-mouth steak.
