Chef Greg and his team consistently deliver - crafted food, great service and sophisticated yet approachable design.
Ridiculously overpriced convenient location but ultimately not satisfactory
Great for lunch with friends! Pretty setting and so intimate.
The Bistro is a very comfortable place to meet with your friends and enjoy an evening of drinks and food. We went after watching a film competition at MFAH. We were able to discuss the films that we saw and we COULD ACTUALLY HEAR EACH OTHER. At many restaurants in Houston the ambience music is so loud that you cannot enjoy your companionship. Thank you, Bistro Menil. We will return!
Sort of on the fence here. The food was good, but the portions (at least for the dinner salads) were quite small. Our waiter advised us that the salad portions were certainly large enough. They were not. Service was only fair as the bread arrived with the coffee and dessert.
Excelent food! We went for a late brunch. All items in the menu were really tempting but because of the hour we ended up ordering from the lunch menu. The quiche and the crepes were delicious and perfect! The Tuscan lemon-almond torte was equally delicious. Very polite staff. Definitely a place to recommend! and we definitely will go back in a future trip to Houston
Dinner for four. Close friends. They loved it! It's one of our favorites as well. That's why we invited them. The food is excellent. And the timing of the service gave plenty of time to talk and catch up. Wonderful atmosphere. Bring a sweater!
This was a lovely experience. My first time at Bistro Menil. I loved the ambiance. The service was impeccable and the food was perfect. My friend and I are looking forward to returning soon. Thank you!
The perfect setting for a get together with close friends! Food was excellent too!
Food is amazing very fresh. Very good wine list, reasonable priced! Nice patio!!
Y first trip there and very much enjoyed it. Food was delicious, great space, outdoor seating was very nice as well. Service was a bit slow but very personable and attentive when there. Will definitely be back. Great lunch spot or early dinner for sure.
We enjoyed everything about Bistro Menil. We will definitely return.
Outstanding! Great menu. Including, gluten free options. Great patio if the weather is cooperative.
Lovely place to go for lunch before museums or ballet.
The food is really “ok” nothing special. The potato with truffles were hard and not cooked well. The 3rd time we go there. 1st was great and 2 others “ok”. That said I don’t think it is worth the price
Good ambiance. Server was terrific. Food was tasty, but entree portions were very small
Perfect neighborhood joint. Love the quiet on Sunday nights!
Outstanding. My lump crab salad was scrumptious and the presentation was beautiful. My lunch companion ordered crepes and thoroughly enjoyed them, too. Service was excellent, as well.
Always a treat... great food and service! GF options are nice to have!
Great place to meet and eat and drink with friends in a serene environment!
Everything was great, the artichoke pie was delicious and the ratatouille is a great side option!
We also had mango ice cream and an excellent cheesecake
The service was perfect
Thought our table would be in a less trafficked area
Bistro Menil is my favorite place to enjoy a meal, whether it's a special celebration or just nourishment ! The food is always delicious, and the wait staff take very good care. Thank you !!
Ambiance was just okay but once the food came we were delighted! The presentation was comparable to a French chef and the flavors were great. All of The food was good, including desserts. The service was also excellent so the slightest disappointment in ambience was diminished. We will return!
Nice to have more reasonably priced wine selection.
Went for HRW. This place was pretty good. Food was flavorful, and service was just ok. We enjoyed it but not sure we will be back
The restaurant offers excellent and delicious gluten-free options.
1st visit - very impressed - definitely will return
I was looking forward to this place for a while, and finally went yesterday. The eggplant fries were bitter and had no flavor at all, like they forgot to sweat them, not even salt, so not good.
Service was attentive until the entree, then he decided we weren't worth his time. I am a generous tipper, but I guess he didn't know that. When the meal arrived, my companion and I both ordered the short rib and mine was half the size of hers, not even remotely close, I didn't mention it, but I was not happy about it. Not much glaze either, was drier than I expected. I didn't like the zucchini side dish whatsoever, but the lemon tart for dessert was good. I read up on the history and I wanted to love it but the overall experience was really disappointing.
Opted for the restaurant week menu and it was not a good value. The portion was tiny and the waiter indicated that it was only half the size of a normal lunch portion.
Bistro Menil NEVER disappoints. Its menu and service are exceptional.
Loved Bistro Menil. We ordered cocktails, one appetizer, then ordered our entrees from the Houston Restaurant Week menu. Quality of food was top notch, service was prompt, personal without being overbearing and pleasant. Noise level was pretty high, but not so that we couldn't carry on a conversation. I will definitely be back!
It was our first visit with friends, 5 of us for dinner. We all thoroughly enjoyed the HRW menu. Service was good. I'll go back for the lemon tart alone.
Lovely lunch, just very loud!
the food at this place was awesome! and the service was great. the ambiance was just ok, but over all we really liked this place for HRW. I would recommend ~
Glad I made this part of my visit to the Menil Collection. Now that I’ve been, Bistro Menil is a place to go anytime in the area. Great menu.
The food was excellant, and the cocktail I had was wonderful. We will be returning very soon.
My wife and I went for brunch on our anniversary weekend, and while we had loved the Menil as an art destination before, we were delighted to find the Bistro is equally excellent. The food is genuinely fantastic, and the peaceful but friendly atmosphere offered a comfortable place for families, couples, and single breakfast goers alike. Can't wait to go back.
Our group of 4 loved the calamari appetizer. I had delicious lamb chops. Others had fish they said was very good.
The sides were less than. The blue cheese salad dressing was bland with no chunks of blue cheese. All the potatoes were also not memorable. The brussell sprouts were delicious! The white chocolate bread pudding was too dry and tasteless. None of us wanted more than one bite.
We ordered 2 beers and 4 glasses so we could divide them but the waiter did so at the bar for us thinking it would be too messy to divide at the table. That was very thoughtful.
With so many new restaurants in Houston I will not be returning soon.
