Bistro du Marché by Tapenade
Diot's inspiration is Paris' bistronomic scene that combines simple local ingredients with culinary elegance and flavorful complexity.
Bistro du Marché brings guests to Paris with a vibrant art deco scene, including a gallery of photographs and art pieces that hail turn of the century Paris.
Conveniently located by the Farmer's Market on Girard Avenue, Chef Diot and his culinary team enjoy visits to the market, where they converse with farmers' representatives. After picking up ingredients from the market, Chef Diot and his team head back to the kitchen to play with hand-picked vegetables and other seasonal ingredients.
Please note that due to a limited seating, we do not take specific table requests. Furthermore, we kindly ask that reservations of over eight people be made via telephone.

Excelent food, very french. very quiet, great place to relax, enjoy your food in La Jolla.
Thank you JGAM; Just in few words you described very well who we are and what guests can get visiting us! Best wishes fpr 2020!
We go often and enjoy always. First class restaurant, haute cuisine food and friendly efficient service.
So many "Mercis" Susan. I feel that by now you are fluent in French... Meilleurs voeux pour 2020!
NYE dinner. Waiter Julian was great. Prix Fixe menu was nice. Chose the pheasant (phenomenal) and venison (very good) Desserts were fine but not spectacular. Older affluent (La Jolla) crowd. We had a very nice night.
Thank you for dining with us for New Year's Eve. Chefs Diot, Delahaye and their team are wonderful. They enjoy crafting menus and making savors blast. Best wishes for 2020!
Fine bistrot dining in La Jolla Village: Hard to beat for a splendid evening out!
Hello Barry: Merci for your warm comment and rating... The Bistrot spelling is the right French spelling.. Awesome! Best wishes for 2020!
Our New Year's Eve dining experience was terrific. Each of us had been to Bistro before, so we are familiar with the restaurant. We arrived early for a pre-dinner cocktail at the bar, and before we sat down, the bartender asked, "How about a glass of champagne ?" Yes ! What a wonderful way to greet guests; it was if we were in someone's home. Service throughout the evening was friendly, attentive and prompt. The next course was never brought until all guests had finished the previous one. This attention to detail is very professional and appreciated. The food was excellent (as always), and the pacing of our dinner was perfect. We had such a nice time we made a reservation for next New Year's Eve. Merci to everyone who made the occasion so memorable.
Dearest Alice; Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your New Year's Eve experience with us with the kindest words and the warmest thoughts. We wish you and your guests the best for 2020!
So happy that we went here for our son's 25 birthday celebration. The food was amazing. Better than the food we had in Paris!

Absolutely wonderful. We each chose different entrees, appetizers and dessert- all incredible. Wine list superb
Best restaurant in San Diego
We took brother & sister-in-law from LA for their birthdays & they loved it, felt very special to them.
Service wasn't great; my halibut was dry and tasteless.
I would like to come back on Thursday, January 2 at noon but there’s no table available.
Came for the duck cassoulet, which was excellent. Finished with a lemon tart with a brulee topping, also exceptional. Overall, a relaxing and refreshing meal.
The staff was warm and welcoming. The salmon and the mushroom ravioli were both exceptional dishes.
Fabulous neighborhood Bistro. Always perfect meals. My new favorite place to dine.
It might a bit pricy but your palate deserves it!
Ambiance: The bistro du Marché is as close as what you would get in central Paris, albeit a little more quiet than a traditional bistro.
Food: The menu was very traditional. We settled for snails from the french region of Burgundy, quenelles from Lyon, topped with the sweetness of profiteroles and crème brûlée.
All in all, a wonderful diner!
A french gourmet.
We enjoyed authentic French food and very good service. A well prepared salmon dish and a great salad offered a delightful dinner
A beautiful bistro with authentic, delicious French food at reasonable prices.
Excellent service and great food
Delicious food and lovely service. A cozy place to eat.
Incredible authentic wine list -they actually had Robluchon cheese and the pepper steak and Duck confit were stellar
Third time we’ve been
Each time has been excellent
Quaint but sophisticated
If you are craving an authentically French meal, then this is the place! The chef is the same as at Tapenade, the much-loved French restaurant in La Jolla. The cuisine is the same, maybe better. Highly recommended!
Food was good but only warm. Like my food hot.
Bread was too crusty as in not fresh.
Hope they fix this.
Dinner at this restaurant is consistently good. Service is excellent and wonderful ambiance. We’ve been many times and will return.
Nice to return to this restaurant in the village of La Jolla. It’s easy to find with plenty of parking. The menu is creative. The food was good but not inspired.
Greetings; Thank you for your rating and comments. Just to clarify a point about your great comment "The food was good (thank you) but not inspired". The inspiration of our Bistro fare is from classical recipes that we sometime review with our touch. We get our inspiration from classical chefs such Paul Bocuse or Michel Guerard and many others. Most of these recipes can be classified as vintage recipes. However our Chefs also express their creativity. I hope this will help understand our roots.
We went here because we had so enjoyed Tapenade when it was open. This was a bit disappointing. Two in our group of 6 had the coq au vin, which was really dry and lacked flavor. The octopus salad was delicious. The quenelles were very good. Sadly the wine was pretty expensive, at a Bistro one would think wines should be moderately priced. Was expecting to choose from several bottles under $50 and that just wasn't the case. In the state of California there are so many wine bargains that was a disappointment.
Well taken care of! Great evening. We will return!
Wonderful service. Delicious food. Nice wine choices. Delightful evening.
We landed on a night when the lights and power went out. The staff made a special effort to keep us safe and contented and well fed. It was wonderful.
Loved the places over all. Little hard to get a waiter to follow up on you. The service was not as good as previous visit. The menu wasn’t variable as before.
The food was delicious and the ambiance was great. I had the Duck Confit and the flavor was out of this world. The acoustics are also nice which added to the cozyness of the place.
The only downside is the price of the wines are outrageous and the bartender did not acknowledge us for awhile and was not friendly.
This is a terrific place for dinner. The Food and service are always excellent. It is on par with Baci and The Market.
Our waiter Chris was WONDERFUL. It was my friends Birthday and he surprised her at the end of our meal with a dessert. We will be back but next time I will make sure to ask for the lamb chops to be medium not medium rare since they were still raw inside.
I recommend This Bistro to anyone who want to have French Bistro, comfort food. Share it with friends. This is one of my preferred places in San Diego/La Jolla. It's authentic, classy, excellent and modest at the same time.. Go there... Try as much as you can and keep coming back.. Thank you Bistro du Marche for being what you are:The best.
Visiting La Jolla from Houston, TX and found this French restaurant on OpenTable. The food was authentic and delicious. Staff was courteous and very attentive. We met some friendly locals that gave us some great recommendations for other restaurants and sites to visit for the remainder of our visit.
Food was excellent!! Got roasted fig salad-to die for. Also got scallops risotto. Very very good.
