Bibendum Oyster Bar
If the sun is shining there are seats outside in the patio area to enjoy a cocktail from a great list of classics, and even if it’s not there are blankets…
A Soho stalwart ... all the classic French dishes and reliable as ever ... great prix fixe ... never fails !
Excellent. Mourice provided very good service, he was attentive, pleasant and efficient without going over the top. His explanation of the 'crab' alternative was most acceptable and the pace of the meal was as would be expected from such an excellent restaurant.
The only issue was with a dog owner who had no control over repeated barking yet other dog owners had their pets under full control.
My daughter & granddaughter 'stole' the pencils but admitted to Mourice that they were about to 'steal' them - a nice touch!
A beautiful place with great service but the main course was hugely disappointing especially for the price! I don't mind paying for good food but I have had much better food at much lower prices. I wouldn't go again.
I love the Bibendum Oyster bar. Very friendly and fun atmosphere. You can't find a more beautiful building in London.
Took a friend visiting London for a meal in a historic building. She enjoyed her fish soup and chilli crab linguini. I had the fish pie. The place was not busy for a Saturday night but ok for conversation.
Loved it, however, one thing they seem to have failed to do over the yearsis sort out the temperature. The draught from the large doors on a cold day makes it a restaurant not to visit in winter. People come in and out constantly. This really does spoil what could have been an otherwise regular haunt for me.
Our waiter Maurice was lovely though. Very kind, helpful and friendly. Give that man a raise!
I had wanted to eat here since I first passed the building some decades ago but either could not afford
to visit or found it too far to go from the West End. As I wanted to visit a nearby shop, I took the opportunity to have lunch there and was not disappointed. We were, I think, the first to arrive for lunch
so the ambience was understandably a little cold but the friendly staff and the well presented food made
up for this. Wine possibly a little on the expensive side but not unduly so - a careful look at what is not
offer produces good quality reasonably priced
Food was great, however the service was quite rude. Besides that, it’s an interesting option, specially if you love oysters!
Food was great, building is amazing, but, for me, the oyster bar lacks any ambiance as it feels like sitting in the entrance to a shopping centre, which it is to be honest as it does lead into the conran Shop( well worth a look)
On the day we were there it was very cold and my wife wore her coat whilst eating as the waiters kept going out through the door to fetch food from the kitchen which is actually outside
But the food served, we had the beef cheeks, was very well cooked and tasted fantastic
Although the food was very good, it wasn’t great and I wouldn’t consider it a good value. We each had a 3 course tasting menu, a small seafood platter and a bottle of wine. While everything was cooked nicely, the service was very slow and waitstaff attention regularly needed to be fetched rather than someone routinely checking in. This is despite there being many servers available with not all tables filled. It seemed the waitstaff was generally lazy or not very proactive. I was also strongly recommend to order a side order of chips to accompany the steak that same with the 3 course meal. It wasn’t explained this was an add on of £4, which in isolation isn’t a big deal at all from a cost perspective but it seems it should have been part of the meal (what’s the point of a price fixe if there are no accompaniments to the steak, eg mashed potatoes, fries, etc.?). Of course, the waiter must have forgot to put in the order of chips as I had to remind him after our mains had been delivered. I should have told him to forget it because I’d already finished the steak by the time the waiter delivered the chips to the table. Anyways, it was a nice evening and I want about to let the poor service and costs ruin the evening, but after pouring my own wine all evening and having to routinely fetch the waitstaff for help, I’m 100% confident I won’t be visiting this restaurant again, particularly considering it came at an expense of £300+
The staff were charming, the building is gorgeous and the food was superb. We had a lovely afternoon there.
Un lugar donde comer pescado de calidad a buen precio en Londres repetiremos y recomendamos ostras y Fisher and chips
Exzellent and a wonderful experience of taste and wine
Bloody freezing and low on ambience. Could easily have been a cafe in an airport.
Bibendum has been on my foodie list for awhile as I've walked by it many times. If you want some oysters, a foie gras starter and a good meal of moules frites, I would recommend coming here. It's perfect for those French classic dishes.
the restaurant is in a tiled and glass room with an outside door often left open. we were freezing which doesn't help to enjoy what is expensive shellfish. visit in the summer when being cool is fine
Although I had informed the restaurant that we would be there to celebrate my mother's 91st birthday, we sat for nearly 25 minutes before being offered menus or water. It was a further half hour before the soup arrived. I wouldn't go there in the winter, it's like being outdoors. Freezing, and very noisy. Food ok, but everything was too rich for me. I couldn't finish my soup nor my taramasalata. The building is glorious, pity the service and food let it down so badly.
Fantastic oysters and very good langoustines. The staff were attentive and friendly and the Martinis were second to none. My only two gripes - 1. It was freezing cold; the amount of glass and lack of heating meant that I had to keep my winter coat on throughout the meal (I imagine that there isn’t much to be done about this due to the listed status of the building). 2. The lemon sole was basted in too much butter which detracted from the flavour of the fish- it would have been nice if the melted butter had been served on the side.
Pleasant and stylish oyster bar in trendy Chelsea / S. Kensington area.
Good fresh food and warm pleasant service. The fish soup was exceptionally delectable. It had a good ambience.
Our starters were fish soup and langoustines. Both dishes were good. We both had lemon sole for mains which were excellent, best I've had for years. Green beans as veg, cooked perfectly.
Very friendly waiting staff, very pleasant experience.
PS. Great cocktails in the bar beforehand!!
Had been several times in the past, but don't think I will return... Value not very satisfying, a "not delicious" turbot hollandaise for £34 with no sides included, cold lobster roll for £28 with french fries... The best were the artichoke linguini for £14. Wine prices allright.
The worst: very very loud place, which made our informal dinner unpleasent.
Qualité moyenne du plateau de fruits de mer
Really good atmosphere. Fresh food and a great service. Highly recommended.
The food was good but the fries and bread was cold before we got in our Champagne. Service was not so professional but liked the place in general.
Yummy food. Very good crab linguine. Good wine. Enjoyable lunch. Nice setting. But service let the down. Service was friendly, but a bit disorganised and had to keep waving our hand to get attention. Brunch menu only on weekends- lunch menu only available during the week.
Hands down the best seafood platter in London. The service is impeccable.
super fresh fish, very good value for money and excellent choice of oysters!
Only problem: no one read our reservation via OpenTable so they didnt even know about our special requests.
As always glorious crab salad & mussels & pistachio pud! Love my Michelin butter dish ... this place is a classic.
Beautiful building but the way it's been furnished lacks inspiration and is very 'cold' - still feels like you're dining in a garage space - albeit a very attractive one. Complete lack of ambience. Service very hit and miss and not that friendly. First waiter ignored us when we arrived. Second never came back after bringing water and third hunted for a pad for several minutes before he took our order. Food was fine but I won't be back.
I am a big fan of oysters. And Bibendum Oyster bar is good place to feed me.
it is a very good place with wonderful food . Good service.
Seafood soup was good. Sole was not fresh nor well cooked and the waiter had no idea of how to debone it. Left it to us to do.
Butter tasted of refrigeration and not fresh.
Very expensive. Quality food: just correct. It was better a few years ago
Ridiculous service. We spent a total 2 hours at the restaurant for a 2 course meal, of which the first course took 1 hour (smoked salmon & crevettes). The server was completely clueless, could not figure out which orders go to which table. This was rather amusingly entertaining, but it gets old very quickly as the bill arrived with 3 items that clearly belonged to the other tables (Hint: If 2 out of 3 tables already sipping their drinks, which table do you think are waiting for their drinks?). None of the staffs ever offered a single apology. In fact, one of them was very confused to why I asked for the bottle of wine to be crossed out of the bill. He probably thought I didn't want to pay for it even though obviously it wasn't ours. A mistake that would not be made if he was pouring the wine and attending the customers.
The food was okayish once they arrived. My lobster linguine was very underwhelming, lobster was very chewy and plastic-like, the linguine was way past al-dente.
In short, one of the worst service I have ever received or witnessed. I strongly recommend people to avoid this establishment.
To celebrate an anniversary. Excellent food and ambiance. Quite a treat.
Had a reservation turned up and the table wasn’t ready, the waiter was very slow and clearly did not want to be there had to shout my order for espresso as he apparently couldn’t be bothered to walk over, the French waitress who took our food order was fantastic and the food was great so definitely will be back just hope to avoid that particular waiter in future!
I’ve coming to this place for over twenty years and would heartily recommend it to seafood lovers. Missed the crab salad on this visit (apparently only available for lunch), but the crevettes rose and langoustines were fresh and sweet
Really good atmosphere. Fresh food and a great service. Highly recommended.
