First time visiting after a recommendation. Fantastic experience. The starters stole the show. Personally, loved all fish dishes. Very thoughtful and friendly service.
The coat service was nice and the staff was welcoming and helpful.
Would recommend and come again.
Just incredible !!!!! Our third visit awesome - we will be back. Thank you
Beatiful restaurant esp the entrance and bar area. Eating area understated but smart and tables not too crammed in just to get numbers! Food and service also fab and we had the set menu with a cocktail which was really good value for money. Also, as is so annoyingly common these days, we didnt get rushed off our table in 1.5hrs... but that maybe as we had a late lunch so no more until dinner... but was nice to enjoy a leisurely lunch.
Everything was too spicy, although spice wasn't mentioned on the menu.
I've been before, and it was superb, but after this experience, I won't be returning.
Great service, great ambiance and staff has great knowledge about food and wines. And food was mind blowing.
The food was absolutely amazing! We had the 8 course tasting menu and it didn't disappoint. The way it was displayed and the service was excellent. I did think the ambience was as good as it could be but the focus is on the food which is as it should be!
Food was good but dining area & service was only average. Considering the cost (£100 per person average), much better places to go
Food was exceptional apart from the potatoes that was a side dish- lacked flavour. The set menu was very good value and each mouthful was an absolute pleasure!
Had the usual fabulous meal at Benares - superb flavours and beautifully cooked with the minimal snout of oil. We had the scallop in coconut curry and Goat’s cheese for starters followed by the Lamb tandoori and Chicken Tikka washed down with a Ruinart Rose (mark up on the Ruinart was a bit steep). Definitely one of the best , if not the best, high end Indian restaurants in the ~UK
Delicious food, pre theatre menu small portions but delicious, nice to have a cocktail. Wine list pricey
1st time here, absolutely fantastic! Really amazing service and food, will definitely be back
Benares was great as usual.
food was good but too pricey, the portion was too small
For a Michelin star restaurant, our expectations weren't quite met. Though the food was really tasty, it wasn't anything otherworldly though still a strong point. The ambience in the waiting area was great, shame it didn't quite carry out into the dining area as it did feel a little bland compared to the rest of the restaurant. The service was definitely the weakest area - when you have about 5 or 6 different waiters serving the dining area (where there aren't THAT many tables compared to other restaurants I've been to), and especially in a restaurant of this standard, some basic mistakes should not happen. For example being served the wrong order, or worse, having to ask for the bill 3 times and waiting around half an hour to receive it when the restaurant was already fairly empty as it was close to closing time. Thankfully one lady who we assumed to be the head of staff came to save the day a couple of times, but the other servers felt a touch lacking. Overall, good experience and we are glad we came, but for the price point, not really worth it and not a visit we'll be repeating.
All the food was perfect! Servers were friendly. It lived up to the expectations set from watching Masterchef!
Lovely tasty set lunch. Matching wines perfect.
Would love to go back soon.
Good food, nice wines, great service! Definitely will come back here!!
I have dinned at Benares a few times pre-pandemic and although the food is still good the prices have gone up rather a lot. Will have to think twice about dining here again.
Great food, staff very helpful with the menu and wine choices- not busy due to covid I guess which is a shame. We will go back.
Excellent service, great value for 3 course meal
Sublime food. Amazing service and location.
Incredibly rude service - don’t get me wrong food was absolutely amazing but as a Michelin this should definitely be an all encompassing experience.
When I was called to remind my reservation, the hostess on the other end was very to the point and more of a “DONT FORGET” than a gentle reminder.
Arriving literally 1 minute late, and steps outside the restaurant, a hostess called me and basically said “WHERE ARE YOU”… and I said well I’m right outside and she’s like “HURRY COS ITS THE LAST SEATING”….
When I got in, I didn’t get a gentle hello or warm welcome but instead “WE HAVE TO HURRY, COS THE LAST ORDER IS AT 2:45 PM”
And when seated at the table, a waiter was like “WELL WE MUST HURRY because the KITCHEN CLOSES”… and upon ordering a dish (Hake), he sternly corrected my pronunciation.
It did not seem like service was a consideration at all, even by British standards where they don’t work for their tips.
Food was A+ but service was F-
Vegetarian tasting menu was absolutely fantastic. Fascinating selection.
We dined at Benares yesterday evening since we had been given a restaurant gift voucher for Christmas. We are regular customers at Benares and so opted to go there again, this time using the voucher. I’m very happy to say we were delighted with the experience, being welcomed back like old friends and then wowed with amazingly accomplished cooking: dishes prepared with imagination and executed with real flair.
The restaurant was buzzy with delightful ambiance and we were given our requested table, far enough apart from other guests to subdue any COVID-19 anxiety.
The service was friendly and exceptionally good.
We can’t wait to return!
The two course meal is £40 per person.. there is only two things u get which is samosa chat and pau Bhaji… there is nothing else. Totally not worth it..dint enjoy the experience at all…
We have, dined on many occasions since 2007, the maintenance of great food from the kitchen, to the excellent front of house service makes for a grand theatrical production. We look forward to our next visit.
Excellent service and food from the Benares staff.
Walked in showed straight to our table and made an anniversary memorable for us.
Christmas Dinner was incredible. One of the best and most memorable meals of our lives.
Christmas Day 8 course tasting menu was a complete dining experience! We loved every course and every moment of our 4 hour feast!
My wife and I had a great experience dining at Benares for their Christmas Day lunch. Initially one waiter wasn’t wearing a mask and I informed one of the head waiters and they fixed it right away. The food and service was amazing and I got very full after the meal.
Service was really subpar - we brought our own bottles of wine and paid the corkage fee, but it felt like the service team was doing their job for the first time - constantly forgetting to pour, forgetting plates...food was outstanding though and would come again because of that.
Very overpriced. £54 for a Biryani.
Service at best average. Not the greatest of food, ambience is not great.
Definitely not worth a visit. So many more restaurants with better quality food…
The service was slow. The vegetarian curry we had was unpleasant.
There was nothing special about this restaurant over and above our local curry restaurant even to the extent our coats were handed back to us, in bulk, rather than us being helped on with our coats.
I was a little disappointed with the table snacks which from days of old at a Benares were more generous in their diversity and options.
Overall still a great place to eat but a little over priced for the food I consumed.
Really fantastic, definitely can see why Benares has its Michelin star. My friend and I had the tasting menu and every dish was so delicious, subtle intense flavours, cooked to perfection. Superb service and nice quiet atmosphere which is what we wanted.
food was not of a quality that the prices indicated.
Great ambience, very good service , lovely location
We went for our wedding anniversary and the manager we don’t know his name made it really special for us with wonderful dessert and drinks
I’ll definitely like to go again 👍
fabulous food, service and ambience. As the restaurant tables filled though it became quite noisy. aside of that, would definitely recommend.
