Had high hopes for Benares, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to the hype. The food was just okay. Nothing stood out as particularly memorable or worth the price tag. There wasn’t much variety or excitement on the menu. For a Michelin-starred Indian restaurant, I expected more creativity. Overall, it felt overpriced for what was essentially average Indian food.

Benares might be the best Indian restaurant in the world. It certainly serves us the best Indian food we’ve had. Not a single dish was a miss. Staff were very polite and attentive. The only issue was a long wait between appetizers and mains.

Has a great meal at Benares. Was surprised to enter the downstairs lobby and see some of their battery operated candles were not working. The decor was a bit tired as well and our table wobbled throughout our dinner. Overall seemed like a lack of attention to the details that make a Michelin star restaurant such an exciting and elevated experience. The service was very good until the end when we waited quite a while to receive our check. The food was great and creative. Loved the presentation of the snack. Value was good as well.

Amazing food - the seafood thali was unbelievable - a feast for the taste buds and the eyes! Service was friendly and efficient - particular thanks to Shiv. The bonus anniversary dessert was a nice touch.

I have been to Benares a few times before and my impression is that the menu got shorter, the prices got higher and the server remained ok. The food was very tasty but it lacked variety. The ambience was good and the location is excellent.

Unfortunately the only good thing about the restaurant was the ambience and the paratha. I do not know if it was because it was a bank holiday but the food was not up to par for such a restaurant. We ordered the dal makhani but were given the yellow dal. When asked why we were given the wrong dish, we were told it because we asked for something less spicy. As someone who cooks Indian food herself, the yellow dal has a spice tadka which you could clearly see layered on top of the dal which makes it more spicy. We were then told by the manager/owner that we should have spoken to them in advance about making something less spicy or for dietary restrictions. As we were not ordering a tasting menu and ordered a la carte unsure why we needed to let someone know in advance about the spice level. This was a not a set 10 or more course meal either where you would tell them in advance. On top of that our server was very rude and in the end we were given another server despite us not asking for a different server. I clearly heard our previous server state he did not wish to serve us and walked away. I understand that you may not want to serve a certain table but don’t do that right in the middle of the restaurant in front of all the patrons. We had high hopes with the restaurant and we came back very disappointed. We did not even stay for dessert. I would not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for good interesting take on Indian food. There are infinitely better restaurants for this type of Indian food at much better price point.
