Beauty & Essex - LA

After a referral, I brought my daughter here for her 13th birthday. The waitstaff, and servers were exceptional, the food was amazing, and they wrote happy birthday, and placed a candle on the dessert plate. Thank you for such a great experience!
My daughter and I enjoyed our evening together and our dinner at Beauty and Essex. Food and decor was exquisite. Next time we will request a booth though, as our seating accommodations were just ok. We had 5:00 reservations and the restaurant did get rather busy and loud as the evening went on. Bathroom and alley photos were a plus!! 😊
Excellent waiter very knowledgeable definitely will be back!!!
Wine list was not the best I’ve ever seen and the cocktails were a bit off but the food was really great.
Amazing venue. Good vibes!
The only bad thing that i waited 1 hour to be seated
Overall a great experience.
We sat at the bar while waiting for our table. Friendly bartender. Strong cocktails. And fun people all around us.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was trendy but not pretentious. Food was excellent and our server was professional, outgoing and efficient.
My only (tiny) complain would be about the wine but I can’t blame anyone but me. I picked it.
We took advantage of the Dine LA menu so our check was more than reasonable for what we ate and drank (starter, entree, dessert and a bottle of wine).
This was my second time at Beauty & Essex but my first time at their LA location (first time was in NY).
Would definitely go back to both locations.
Best night ever!!!! Thanks so much!
Disappointed my waiter asked if we wanted an extra wonton taco to even it out and have 4 because it came with three and we were like you can do that? YES PLEASE, omg thank you so much you're the best. And he's all like don't worry I got you, I got you like he was doing us A FAVOR. Then we get the bill and he charged us 5.33 for a little baby mini wonton taco. Like ok thanks, but no thanks I wouldn't have ordered it had I knew you were charging me. And no 5.33 isn't a lot of money, but it's the principle behind it and withholding information. He totally told us there was a charge for bread when we asked for it (AND WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO PAY) so WHY wouldn't he tell us there was a charge for the taco? I just find that sheisty and rude to be honest.
It was amazing, the atmosphere, most of the service, but mainly the operations manager made it heaven for us.
Was okay. Nothing to write home about. I was actually pretty disappointed. Took my boyfriend there for his birthday and in the reservations, I mentioned the birthday and asked for a nice seat. We ended up sitting at the third best room. $65 rib eye steak came at the same time as two other dishes although this place is supposed to serve one or two dishes at a time since it’s exclusive. We asked them to keep it warm. The quality wasn’t so good. Wasn’t as flavorful as a typical rib eye. Very pricey and not by far worth the money especially with the ambiance in the back room.
Love this place! So happy they opened this restaurant in LA after loving it so much when I lived in NY. I just celebrated my birthday there and it was such a great night.
This is the second time that we have been to Beauty & Essex. Everything was great. If I had the slightest observation it would be about the lead server. He did not check in as often as he should have. The secondary staff was perfect. Still, over all it was a 4-4.5 in my books.
Food was amazing! Very trendy and busy inside. Greeted with champagne in the restroom. Great music.
Made reservation and still had to wait 20 mins past reservation time before getting our table. Waitress was non existent. Didn’t check up on us until meal was almost finished and drinks were empty. Fries came out at the end of the meal. Would have spent more if I could have drank more.
Never been to this establishment and overall a good experience. Started a bit rocky with bus boy bringing out very wet plates and actually spilling some of the water from the plate on my date but we didn’t let that spoil the evening. The server was very nice and attentive the appetizers we tried were very delicious. Did not try an entree that evening, only went for appetizers and drinks If we make it back out will give entree’s a try.
always answer this place
The 'ally' entrance into this restaurant is lovely. You enter into a jewelry shop and through a plain door that is like a speakeasy. The place is uniquely elegant in a playful way. The food is delicious and I loved the small and shared plates. The staff are friendly and attentive. It was a truly delightful dining experience.
I booked Beauty and Essex for a friend's birthday, party of 8. It is a nice restaurant. I think since we were a large party, they sat us upstairs in sort of a private area, which was nice. I was just confused on where to enter the building, I wish I would've known that it was through the side alley so that I could've just valeted instead of parking in a lot where I had to walk. Overall, the food and drinks were good. Fit for a nice family style experience.
I’ve been to Beauty and Essex a few times now and the food is always delicious. It’s family style, everyone pics something they really want to try and we all share and experience the food. They are great about asking if anyone has allergies, which I thought was great. I don’t have food allergies, but one of our friends did, and they took care of him. I would recommend dining here on a date night or nice get together with family and friends.
Beauty and Essex is THE place in LA to go for special occasions. If you want to impress, you cannot beat it. It's upscale so dress well, and expect to pay a higher price that is worth every penny.
Food, service, ambiance, all an A+! Start with the beet and burrata salad, then the street corn ravioli, and finish it up with the pot de Creme! YUM!!
It was awesome. The service and food were first class
Beauty and Essex is AMAZING. You cannot leave LA or Las Vegas without trying it. It has become my favorite place. I am a really difficult person to please because I love unique food, and this place meets all my expectations and more.
First time, and what a a great find. It was my son's 25th birthday, and four of us split 7 dishes (4 appetizers and 3 entrees) plus dessert. All were fabulous. Incredible service and beautiful surroundings. Deco/edgy/elegant decor...really unique. We can't wait to go back!
Our waiter Jordan provided excellent, personable attention and made our dining experience amazing. We enjoyed the ahí tacos, kale and apple salad, Thai-style shrimp, cheese and tomato soup bites, and Mexican street corn ravioli! We are ready to celebrate there again soon!
Wonderful dining experience. The filet was perfect, and the Thai mushrooms were bomb!!
If in LA, NYC or LV- Beauty and Essex is a must! It’s vibrant, energetic and swanky!!
The savory portion of our meal was excellent - very well done. The crust on the empanadas was perfect and everyone at our table raved about the green beans. I had the lamb chops and can confidently say they were possibly the best I’ve ever had. The desserts were good but not on the same level as the savory dishes. The best dessert was the olive oil cake. The only word that comes to mind for the desserts is uninspired. The doughnuts reminded me of State Fair food. I understand a restaurant has to cater to the masses to stay in business but I was expecting more. Overall, our experience was very nice.
My first time here, food was great, staff excellent and friendly, my husband rave about it stating how much he can’t wait to return with his friends to lounge and bar
Good food at higher than average prices, but you get great ambiance. They have to pay their Hollywood rent. Overall, great restaurant.
Loved this place and the food was delicious... I would love to go again.. perfect for birthdays !!!
This may hands down be the best restaurant in L.A.; absolutely it is in Hollywood. If you want a quieter table, ask to be seated upstairs. Otherwise, enjoy the amazing breadth of the menu and the specialty cocktails.
Great ambiance for a girls night out or celebration! Great service as well!
We loved this restaurant the first time we went, so we decided to take our two executives for a company dinner. The food was not as good the second time. We were talking a lot which I could tell was annoying the wait staff since we didn't follow their timeline for shoving us thru their table schedule. Once we were at the end of our meal and enjoying our discussion, we were visited by this small man who offered us a "tour." Now, why you can not be honest and just let us know you want the table so we should leave is immature and kind of moronic. Did I mention it was a Tuesday and the place was half empty? People work hard to earn money and can pick a ton of places to eat. Don't choose a place that acts like this.
Bottom line - food isn't consistent, a SLIDER (yes, one) costs a fortune and the staff is weak. There are a million really great restaurants in LA. Skip this one and go to the real one in NYC.
The food is amazing!
Great atmosphere, drinks, and food! I went to Beauty & Essex for dinner prior to seeing a play at the Pantages. My only disappointment was that they did not serve champagne in the women's restroom until after 730pm. I went to Beauty & Essex in NYC and I remembered how fun it was to be served pink champagne in the Ladies room, so this was a let down.
Craig our server is a perfect example of what preeminent service is all about . Extra ordinary and will be returning.
