Emphasizing harvest fresh food and healthier fare, Balata is a wonderful place for meals with friends or your family. A visit to Balata means savoring seasonal produce and high-quality ingredients, and you will see this reflected in even the most familiar dishes.
The fish and chips, for example, uses craft beer and the freshest cod, and is served up with a gourmet caper sauce with hand-cut fries. Everything has this attention to detail, and whether diving into a bowl of yellow tomato gazpacho topped with basil crème fraiche or enjoying your mahi mahi tacos with cider slaw and Szechwan aioli, you know you are eating original dishes at Balata.
Very reasonable, tasty food in a wonderful setting!! Also outstanding service...be sure to ask for Eddie...he was our server and was wonderful as was Sven-manager!!!!
The food was okay but portions were very small and very over priced.
We had dinner with friends and choose Balata. The service was wonderful, the food was excellent and the ambiance and view beautiful.
Had awful experience on Sat. night dinner 7/26/15. At first, had high hopes given initial warm greeting and fantastic outdoor view of the mountains. But that's where it all ends.
From initial sitting to drink order took 10 mins. Then two bar drinks took additional 15 mins. to come to table, at which point waiter, who admitted to "being spaced out tonight," finally took order. My wife and I both ordered from the dinner menu. I ordered their New York Strip medium-rare after appropriate inquiry from waiter. Approximately 40 mins. later, a steak arrived that was clearly well-done. Waiter summoned to table---he quickly agreed after seeing mid-section and me pressing on meat. Waiter took plate away promising quick correction, but then not 2 mins. later, brought plate back saying literally "in the light of the kitchen, it appears more rare." The waiter however seemed to continue to agree that the dish was well-done and not even close to being medium-rare, and took the plate back to the kitchen. Gentleman from IL who was seated in a bar-style table with his spouse commented after waiter left that he could see from where he was seated that it was CLEARLY well-done. In interim, spouse and children continue to eat. My wife's pork tenderloin, while edible, was mediocre at best. After 14 mins. (which should have been a sign), a fresh New York strip dish arrived...I had waiter wait as I cut mid-section--> it was CLEARLY well-done again! Waiter concurred and starting taking it back...at which point I said that we were done. No offers were made to substitute, etc. I was not charged for my entree. THEN, the manager who hails from Munich, Germany came to table and said that in the light of the kitchen, the meat appears more well rare than outside. No apologies. I have NEVER heard such a ridiculous statement from even a Denny's, Outback...nay of course Morton's, Capital Grille, ...or in fact ANY restaurant I've visited. No apologies were given by manager. AVOID.
Best bargain in Vail area. Look for specials. Food is very good and usually not terribly crowded. More crowded in the summer, because it is part of the Golf Course clubhouse.
Dined here as a family, including our two young kiddos. We were here on ski holiday so too cold to dine outside, but the views were amazing from inside and the patio would be a great place to dine during the warmer months. Waiter was exceptionally attentive. Appetizer and all our entres were delicious. Very impressed with the service and ambiance; will be adding Balata to our regular rotation during our annual ski trips!
We have been twice over the past month. Trout and salad with salmon were both superb. Excellent service from maitre de and waiter. nice ambience in beautiful setting. Thursday evening 1/2 off ALL wine bottles is a great deal. also, check out happy hour.
Location and service were great. Food was okay, certainly not the best but not bad either. The prices were good. Also, the menu was pretty standard, nothing special. The steak and duck were a bit overcooked and the lamb shank needed to be reheated. May be worth visiting in summer time. Their patio looks very nice (we were there in February).
This restaurant is part of the Sonnenalp Hotel property in Vail. It is at the golf course in Edwards and has a quiet, scenic location. The service was superb and the food wonderful. Flavorful meals, large portions and the choices were not the usual collection of meals - but there is something for everyone and everything is great. This is a definite repeat selection.
We had a very delicious meal at Balata. There were 6 of us - three adults and three teenagers. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the service was excellent. It was quiet on a Sunday evening in January and I'd expect it to be busier during golf season, although I doubt very much that would have negatively impacted either the food or the service. I would go back and would recommend it to a friend, but what else would you expect from a restaurant in a Sonnenalp venue?
We enjoyed a prix fixe 4 course diner on New Year's Eve. Loved all the food. Service could have been better. Still very friendly staff. The views of the golf course and the Arrowhead ski area are really outstanding.
Food was excellent. Lovely restaurant. They have gluten free options and are very helpful with gluten free choices. They also brought out gluten free bread when they brought out the regular bread. All four of us enjoyed our meals. Great service. Nice ambiance. Will return.
We went here because the last time we were in town we loved the restaurant and the food. This visit we had the same waiter that was very good and the atmosphere was excellent. Two of us ordered the Turkey Sliders and we decided that we ordered wrong. We were expecting sliced turkey meat and they are grilled turkey sausage patties. The other guest had a grilled chicken sandwich and it was as expected. Will know next time......
This was our first time to try this restaurant and we will definitely return. The food was wonderful and everything about the evening was great.
Just make a reservation and enjoy! You will not be disappointed. Try the Trout!!!!!
A lovely meal with a small child who was well cared for by staff. Excellent food and drink and wonderful mountain view.
Every time I visit Balata I try something new and have yet to be disappointed.
Tried the beet and spinach salad..great. The mussels are so good you want to finish the broth with your spoon, strip steak and bass were also great.
A very enjoyable dining experience. Not crowded as so many restaurants in the Vail Valley are.
Just a mile across from Arrowhead Ski/Golf resort this is worth the trip. Short trip from Avon and Beaver Creek nearer than Edwards.
Great service, too! We will be back.
I go to Balata often while in Edwards during summers and winters; the food has improved over last summer. The food, wine and service were all good. The setting speaks for itself.
We eat at Balata at least twice a month. We thoroughly enjoy the staff, food and view. The best trout in the area, a must try dish. No complaints, I would highly recommend this restaurant. It is a country club restaurant but the public is welcome in this dining room. We are not members and are treated like we are!
Our favorite on a summer night. Could not have been more accommodating for toddler. Great drinks. Meal was perfect and the ambiance is amazing
Can't beat this for eating outside and viewing the while valley! Just a great setting! Pub menu or regular menu, can't go wrong!
Balata is located in the Clubhouse at the Sonnenalp Golf Course in Singletree. The food is good, service is typically country-club slow. The outdoor patio is very nice and the view is terrific!!! If you're looking for a place to bring a larger group with the kids and grandparents, this is it! If you're looking for a quiet, romantic diner for two....think again.
Service was really poor. Brought one cocktail and the other was greatly delayed, maybe 15 minutes. I went to get a glass of wine from bar. That caused the drink to be delivered. Very distracting! I ordered a side of sweet potato casserole and after some delay the main order delivered and they sent fries, waiter said they did not have casserole on menu. I got a copy and showed him he was in error. Too late to correct, I never got the side. Had to ask 3 times for fork to begin my entrée. It took about 10 minutes while the food cooled. Salad plates not bussed from table even though we moved them aside. I finally moved them to a nearby empty table. Not our first time at Balata and this was not typical, but it was poor.
Great food & outdoor patio has a magnificent view
We had a group of dieters and a vegetarian... makes choosing food places difficult everyone loved what they got! Pricy but the food was flavorful and well prepared. The views were great and the service was ok had a few hiccups. .. but overall a good experience. .
Great food and service, plus its an outstanding value.
Great restaurant in Edwards- good specials on wine and entrees. Food excellent!
had a terrific time and enjoyed the food very much.
We have had many great dinners at Balata this winter, and will definitely be going back. The Friday night Prime Rib was great, we have also taken advantage of the Half off all wine on Thursdays and the Saturday night $60 dinner for 2 that also includes wine! Glad to see that Balata is having a great come back.
Great food for reasonable price in the valley. Country club feel
Our server was attentive and friendly. Both our meals were very good. The food was a little slow between salad and entree however it was a pleasant dining experience.
Great food, great service, wonderful time!
We enjoyed the ambiance of Balata's and the personal touch my wife and I received.
Our meals were excellent and so was the wait service. We would recommend this restaurant
to others.
Food for party of four was variable with 2 excellent and 2 so-so entrees. Server was friendly yet slow and unattentive. Service needs to be improved.
Service was horrible. Took 20 minutes for a waiter to approach the table. Food was barely mediocre. You can't trust these prior reviews.
Seemed to be undder staffed in that service was slow and a bit clumsy.
Good upper middle semi-casual night out in the down valley Vail area.
