Sorry to see this place close. Houston's loss for not supporting the concept and the talented people in the kitchen.
Food was a mixture of good and ok. It’s closing soon which I was disappointed to hear but not sure I would return anyway.
Fantastic Omakase dinner with Chef Paul last night!
Food was amazing. It was my second time eating there and I’m devastated about the upcoming closure.
So sad to see this place go!!!
Excellent dining experience. Very unique. Food was excellent. Definitely not for the cautious eaters. Fun to eat with your hands.
Excellent menu and unique plates. Server spoke a little too fast and was very soft-spoken; had to ask them to repeat multiple times.
Physical space quite nice. During our 90 minutes there, were the only people in the place. The food was good but seemed overpriced as were the drinks. I wouldn’t recommend.
Not as good or exciting as before. No foie grad and
Many dishes were less flavorful. Over long waits for food. Business slowed so no valet.
Ever changing menu.
Well executed cuisine.
Knowledge, engaging waitstaff...
It’s what I call a “once a weeker”
The meal was extraordinary as was the waiter who made perfect recommendations and kept the food coming at an even pace. I have enjoyed Paul Qui’s cheffing since his early Eastside King days in Austin. Still great food and as far as I can see he is wonderful to his staff and to his patrons. We started with the Bread and Butter w coconut jam, the Philippine ceviche, then the chili crab (this is the only one that while very good—there are other options even better), grilled greens, and brazino was the fish of the day prepared grilled and whole. We finished w the tsamporado, and banana Turon. All amazing.
The food was delicious. Our server was fantastic. But after $200 we went to Burger King to fill up.
The service was very good and the entire staff very welcoming. The food was fresh, very flavorful and pleasing to the eye but more to the palet! If you're looking to relax and enjoy food that is carefully and uniquely prepared, this is the place!
Food did not taste as good as it did before and portions are smaller than they used to be. The price you pay is just not worth it anymore. There is nothing special about this place. Service was great though.
Fantastic service, head chef checked on tables. Great all around.
Amazing food , had the omakasa, highly recommended
Great nicer-than-usual spot for go-out or meet-up occasion with friends. Food was fantastic.
Aqui is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. I often bring people who have never been and they are always blown away by the unique menu items and how amazingly good the food is.
Changed owner. Changed Menu. Food is terrible. Not worth time and money there.
Beautiful. Fresh. Delicious.
The grilled greens and the chili crab were sublime.
Four of us shared the Filipino tasting meal. In contrast to other tasting menus, its all served at one time on a large banana leaf. Super fun , interesting, and delicious. We are already plotting our next visit.
Great job Aqui!
Great food, drinks and service. One of the best whiskey menus in the city. Great server.
Creative menu, friendly staff, and delicious food!
Service was incredible with awesome descriptions of awesome unusual foods. Presentations were crazy beautiful. I took several people and enjoyed everything we tried. One of the best meals I’ve ever had and I travel extensively around the US. Thanks
Food was great and service even better. Great experience
Missed some old dishes we used to have for the last 4 times we were there. We said we booked for a special occasion but the waiter didn’t even acknowledge it
Food is way overpriced for what it is - but was tasty and a good ambiance. Will likely only return for drinks and snacks
Had a great time food was very decent but the waiter decided to take items off the menu that we ordered and double them to accommodate everyone at the table
Loved the cuisine and ambiance there! New flavors and great nod to Asian inspired cuisine
Excellent live Uni, Fillipino Ceveche, Porkbelly Rice, and dessert. Waitstaff friendly and helpful.
Just awful. Service was terrible and food was not cooked.
So yes, I've said that Zen Izakaya is the best traditional Japanese restaurant. But I've also said that I was sad that Yoshi san left, well guess where he went! To me Aqui is the perfect fit, where he could do things that were previously impossible. If you want the best Ankimo, the best Anago, the best Tamago, reserve the omakase with Aqui.
It's a new look with Japanese cuisine, and it's probably the most innovative in Houston, while keeping the traditional items on point. I won't be surprised if Aqui is the first Texas restaurant to get the Michelin star. But who cares, I know I'll be coming back.
Excellent service in a gorgeous space but the food is the star. Several raw bar choices like Filipino ceviche all were delicious. Creative cocktails and half price happy hour until 6:30. Can’t wait until cooler weather as there’s a pretty outdoor area too.
This is probably the 3-4th time my girl friend and I have eaten here. Every time it just keeps getting better and better. So they just recently started doing an 17-18 course omakase at the counter and we just had to try it. Im so glad we did, everything was on point and just truly amazing. Chef Yoshi was extremely knowledgeable about everything he was serving and how certain fish should taste if they are fresh or wild vs farm raised. I can't wait for my next trip back to Houston so we can eat here again!
Fantastic. Well crafted food, lively, and bright.
Ny husband and I have been here for our special occasions several times now. We both felt that this time the quality of the food is not as good as before. Pork lechón is very fatty, and our risotto was undercooked. We will still go back because we like the creativity and play on Asian food, but we really hope the food quality doesn’t go down.
Emanuela was the best!
Aqui has an amazing menu based on the idea of umami--every bite is a taste sensation. Excellent wine list and VERY gluten free friendly.
The food was outstanding. The service was friendly, but absent at times. The mixed drinks were pleasantly unusual. The tapas items were great for sharing. Surprisingly not crowded for a Friday night.
