Angler is a sea-life focused restaurant with views of the expansive wood burning hearth as well of the San Francisco Bay from Chef Joshua Skenes and Saison Hospitality.

Each day’s inspiration is drawn from the products themselves and is an articulation of their natural flavors, served at their peak taste. We work with a small group of fishermen, hunters, gatherers, ranchers, and farmers to find and follow microclimates that produce the highest quality products in local existence. All of the cooking revolves around open wood fire and a fireplace designed for Chef Skenes's unique methodology, techniques, and tools for extracting the best tastes in our products.

The expansive cellar features a particular emphasis on the wines of Burgundy as well as benchmark producers from our backyard in Napa and Sonoma.

The bar program features carefully curated spirits from well-known and small-batched distillers, to specially sourced selections that date back sev

Horrible service and discrimination by our waiter. If you are not a white male over the age of 70 with a gold Rolex, your service will be subpar. As a woman, I could hardly get the waiter to give me the time a day, yet alone adequate service for a $180 lunch.

Outstanding in every way. New and exciting menu, excellent service, interesting decor. Will be back. The price for the food is well worth it and actually reasonable for what you get! Love the family style entrees and how beautifully the server made suggestions based on what we were most interested in. Only downfall is the lack of reasonable choices on the wine list - while it is exquisite, for those of us who aren’t Silicon Valley executives, in order to enjoy a bottle of wine, there is really nothing reasonably priced. That being said - I highly recommend the BBQ pineapple cocktail, it is well worth $16! Overall very excited to re-visit Angler.

Much ado, and really about nothing. It's a competent restaurant with a great wine list, but the menu is quite limited, and you probably cannot do anything interesting with petrale sole or bass filet. Raw items were along the same lines - nice, but not special in any way. Fish/seafood lovers should be advised to hit the better Cantonese restaurants in the Bay Area rather than striving to get that difficult reservation at the Angler

It is an amazing experience in new cuisine and wonderful wine accompaniments. It is very expensive, the side room is not worth the price (ask for the main room), and it is noisy. For those with the funds, it is just super, but for us too much noise in a side room.

The dishes we had were truly outstanding. They included the salt and pepper bass, the BBQ quail, the Parker House rolls and the Angler Potato. The latter is unique and not to be missed. There are a few discordant notes which I hope will be corrected in the future. First, the servers are overzealous in their clearing of plates to the point that they attempted to remove plates that still had food or sauces that we still intended to eat. We saw this at tables other than our own as well. Simply asking would solve the problem. Second, the wood smoke in the air is excessive to the point that it overwhelms senses, and infiltrates clothes so that they must be cleaned. Adjusting the ventilation to fix this would be appreciated. Third, a restaurant that is aiming for casual should make more of an effort to have reasonably priced wine selections, maybe even a specially highlighted section, especially when so many are available from the local wine areas.

The ambiance and attentive service were outstanding. We were in excellent hands. The six of us were there for our daughter’s birthday.
The food was average to disappointing. The bread was good, but at $12 for a small tin of Parker house rolls, it was wildly overpriced. The butter, a mix of butter and kelp, was terrible.
We had the Caesar salad, which was very good, with a very balanced dressing. The green salad was ordinary- two lettuces and a lemon dressing.
The potato was excellent, the portion tiny. So was the beet- very tasty but tiny portion. The flake was minuscule. Among six of us, each got a tiny slice of flake, really a tiny bite each.
The whole fish, beautifully presented and filletted at the table, was dry and truly bland. The star dish was the whole chicken - moist, flavorful and a robust portion each. But you don’t go to “Angler” for chicken.
We enjoyed ourselves, and were pampered by the staff, but the food was disappointing and the portions small for the high cost.

Love the restaurant. All the waiters there r nice but one of the waiter name Zack very rude and unfriendly . The end of our dinner time to order desert . We asked him what is his favorite desert in the menu . He answered abruptly and rude . He said I am not you mam so I can't recommend to u so my husband got mad and told him he is very upset w his comment but Zack didn't seem to care . But other waiters we had wonderful. Hope Zack will light up a little not too uptight.

Unfortunately, due to an emergency in the kitchen we had to leave the restaurant without eating our main dishes.. Waiters offered some glasses of wines as compensations.. A bit disappointing when travelling from France and booked couple of months in advance. To be tried again.

I have had two meals at this restaurant; both FABULOUS. Attention to detail of every item brought to my table was 100% positive. For example: I had half chicken with mustard sauce and the chicken was oozing with moisture throughout every bite. They nailed it on preparation. The mustard sauce was like butter with a fabulous balance of spice and cream. I had the soft serve ice cream with Carmel sauce and somehow they prepared it so that it didn't melt in the dish before taking my final scoop. DIVINE. If you want perfection, this is the place to dine.

Food cooked to perfection. Had the mussels cooked in their own juice. Always choose mussels when in seafood restaurant but don't remember having them tis moist and plump. Quail was smoked then roasted. Tasted great with all the subtle flavors of spice and sweetness. Cesar salad was innovative. Mushrooms soup was equally super. Lemon tart was not extraordinary. Would return to try other dishes.

Didn’t like the menu. All food items were white, beige, or brown. Considering the decor seemed to be the first thought to this restaurant, I would expect the food items on the plate to show some (vegetarian) life ... besides mushrooms and potatoes. Also, the seaweed infused butter was not a good idea; very unappealing visually and tasted rancid. I could only recommend Angler for its visual experience ... the bathrooms are divine and the bar is great, or for its outstanding cocktails and wine list. Also, having porterhouse and quail on a seafood-centric menu seemed incongruent to the overall menu. Lastly, the starters were esoteric. Angler needs to simplify - having cod and chips on menu with a nice wedge salad may not be ambitious enough for a Michelin-starred chef, but some folks are regular people and desire comfort food. (Tho Angler looks and is comfortable, the food experience is not).

We were celebrating my birthday before returning home to NYC the next morning. We were joined by my sister who lives and works part in SF.
Before our trip I read a rave review in the NYTimes and made a reservation using OpenTable.
It was perfect. Everything exceeded our already high expectations. It was a memorable birthday celebration.

Biggest issue is the service. All the servers look amazing in their suits and all, but they all seemed a bit terrified, of what, idk. We came in with a carefree attitude just ready to have a nice fun time and felt tamped down by the service a bit. No sense of humor or levity really, but they take care of you. Fold your napkins when you go to the bathroom and such. In a way, they forced us to have a good time for them, if that makes sense. Our particular server got our vibe and I liked him, but the others circling didn't seem interested. They were not enjoying their time there with the customers was my feeling. Perhaps the now overly pretentious SF crowd has tamped them down a bit. The oysters were fresh and nice. The lettuce + herbs salad and radicchio salad were both outstanding. Most beautiful looking chicken, cooked to perfection, but no flavor other than the mustard bbq sauce provided, which no one liked much. I was excited about the rolls, but they were just average. That day's seaweed butter was repulsive and I am adventurous and love seaweed. Really loved the charred beet dish. Hen of woods looks marvelous, but was not wonderful. The cocktails were on point, but slow to the table each time we ordered them. Coconut sorbet is unreal as is the soft serve with caramel. Nice to see my truck pulled up to vallet as we left without any fiddling. Wish the servers were a bit more adaptable. I have to assume there is an uptight, Warby Parker spectacled, asymmetrically coiffed manager expecting all but personality from the crew cruzing the dining room floor.

We orders quite a few dishes to share including a salad (amazing!), hen of the woods mushrooms (also amazing), the potato in cream sauce and the porterhouse. The mistake was the porterhouse. It was just ok. Fillet part was good but the other side was stringy and super chewy. Service was excellent.

This was one of the most incredible dining experiences we have had in years. The price is high, but you get what you pay for. Everything we ate was spectacularly fresh and well prepared. Highlights were the live scallop, the very unusual Caesar salad made from a chicory that I have never encountered before, the Maine lobster, and the complimentary (it was my partner's birthday) salted caramel sundae, but really everything we ate was top notch. And the service was spot on. The wait staff are all very professional, but warm and friendly at the same time. We really appreciated how large and spread out the tables are--you can't hear anyone else's conversations and they can't hear yours. And our table had a million-dollar view of the Bay Bridge light show. It was magnificent. This place combines fine dining with a total lack of pretension.

The food outstanding (antelope tartar, tuna tartar - that tomato gele is amazing!, hen of the woods (a bit cold, but super tasty), grilled bass, the chicken done peking duck style was so tender and juicy. And the ambiance warm and inviting. Will def recommend and be back again :-)

Highlights: Beautiful food, delicious with a unique set of flavors.
Service was impeccable and friendly , without being cloying.
Very professional, caring and friendly hosts and reservationist.

Lowlights: Very expenive.
Music could use a reboot: maybe tyring to be funny/retro? but is just bad music from 70s/80s.
It is distracting to the overall positive experience.

It took 45" before we had our first sip of wine. The service was very slow in the beginning, but the pacing and service improved halfway through the dinner. The food did not live up to our expectation, the sole that looked really good in photos was overcooked for instance. The first and foremost impression I got from our visit was that Joshua Skenes and his partners seemed to be confused about who they wanted to be. They brought the flatware placed vertically in a utensil container like a very casual restaurant, yet the service was formal. They call themselves Angler, but the decorative theme did not reflect that, instead of the decor that evokes the ocean/river and fishing, there were many stuffed heads of moose and similar animals. Personally I detest seeing magnificent animals' plight that way, killed, stuffed, and displayed in a restaurant. There was a good thing I should mention, the bus people were very professional and excellent. Over all though, for the price range they put themselves in, they must perform much much better.
