All around a great experience. Great food and cocktails. Our server was great as well with very good recommendations on food(we were first timers)
Good food n great service
The reason I gave this a “good” rating was because it took 30+ minutes after finishing our appetizers to get our main entrees.
The food is extraordinary, as is the service and décor. It is, however, so loud it is almost impossible to have a conversation, and all four of us had ringing in our ears after we left. Regardless of the noise level, the food is worth it. Perhaps they should offer ear plugs?
Four of us celebrated my wife's birthday at Andina, an absolutely terrific restaurant that's mostly but not exclusively Peruvian. We had been only once before and now I'm wondering what on earth took us so long to return.
Our welcome was warm and we were seated immediately per our reservation. I'd requested a "quiet" table for talking and celebrating, and I think they may be extinct at Andina but we got a lovely booth by the window. Noise from other tables was notable but not really disturbing.
The star of the Andina show was our server, Perri, who is an Andina menu scholar and made a few excellent suggestions. One was her "personal favorite," ceviche, which we shared as a starter. From there, we had different dishes - all delightful. The cocktails before dinner were things of beauty and tasted great.
The sommelier was helpful with the extensive wine list, and I settled on a Spanish wine which - at $120 a bottle - was just okay. My fault, not his.
Perri mentioned that before she could become a server she had to pass a test on the menu, mastering the dishes and how they are prepared and served. Through it all, she was friendly, attentive, professional.
After the main course, a nice birthday surprise came out for my wife.
We were there on a Tuesday evening and the place was packed, but we never lacked for attention. I called the noise level "moderate" although it certainly nosed up into "energetic" status now and again.
In short - it was a fun and delicious experience and we look forward to returning.
I don't typically do reviews because most restaurants that one traffics more than once or twice are all at a certain "good" or even "very good" level. Also, those one typically frequents because it's local, near to home or a friend or relative is involved. Nice but nothing special.
Andina is something special. Way special. Great and unique menu with traditional and modern Peruvian choices. Super small plates (the octopus was face-down fabulous). Excellent choices and preparation that hit all the taste buds. Team service was great, also. Five different service staff members delivered plates to our table, not counting the host, who also checked on us.
Exquisite, delicious, original food. A feast for the eyes and tongue. We'll be back!
Food was mediocre. Food took forever to arrive and then yuca dish wasn’t hot. Overall disappointing!
The food was absolutely incredible, I had the best lamb and the best dessert I’ve ever had in my life. Dorrís stopped by our table and complimented us and was so pleasant and authentic and sweet. I had made a reservation in for a window seat, but when the offered a different place we were happy to accept. We ended up having a cozy little corner and I think it made it that much better. My mother and I went together, just us, and it was still so romantic (lol) we loved it and we will recommend it to any of our future friends who might visit Portland.
Celebrated our 1st Anniversary at Andina 💚 Perfect evening at our new favorite place!
Great place, great food. My wife and had a great date night!! Would recomend this place for anyone looking to spend a great evening with a loved one or first date.. our waiter was really knoligable of the menu and wines.
We had a long conversation with Doris, the mother of Peter who opened Andina. Doris was adorable and we had so much fun with her. She told us Peter's whole story of having a dream of opening a Peruvian restaurant. We also would recommend a server called David P. He really knew the menu and we had some people with very limited diets and he knew all the ingredients in the delicious food.
We would definitely recommend this restaurant - it is a 10!!
A wonderful place to dine. Delicious food and great service, what more do you want?
Delicious, as always. The food is amazing, the service is excellent and the venue is great for people watching. Highly recommended. 💟
We have always depended on this restaurant to supply us with outstanding meals we would have otherwise been without.
Excellent experience all around. Food was creative and flavorful. Server was top-notch.
I always love Andina. It’s my husband and my place of choice for our anniversary. The thing that really made this time memorial is the fact that I didn’t mention my husbands birthday but they remembered somehow from two years prior that my husbands birthday is the 10th and our anniversary is on the 11th. They brought us both a small shortbread cookie with caramel centers which is just enough for a bite which is perfect after a meal.
I had the Lomo Saltado, and it was wonderful. Everyone in my party was extremely pleased with their meal. The service was exceptional.
Love it every time. The drinks and the food are always consistent. Cant wait to go back again
During a weekend of incredible eating experiences, we expected Andina to be the highlight. and while it was delicious, I'm not sure it stands out in a way I'll remember. Maybe because we ate off the smaller vegetarian menu? We had a very nice meal, service was great, I just don't know if I'll think to go back.
For one of the top rated restaurants in Portland, I must say I wasn't impressed. The food was "pretty good", but that's it. I had the squash stew which was good, but a bit lacking in character. The portion was great. For an entrée I had the lamb shank. It was touted as having cilantro in the sauce, but I didn't get any cilantro flavor. My wife had 3 small dishes - the beet salad, a potato dish, and a stuffed pepper. I got to taste all 3. The beet salad was OK, but the dressing was a bit acidic for me. The potato dish was just basically potato salad. Good, but nothing special. The stuffed pepper was quite good.
Service was something else entirely. One server took our drink and food order, then we never saw him again. Our main courses came out first and we sent them back so we could get our appetizers. This was a different server, and the guy who'd taken the order was standing right behind him when it came, and said nothing when we sent it back. We finished those and yet another server came to take our plates, and offered us a dessert menu. Once again, we pleaded for our main course, which arrived (again) shortly afterwards. Once that was over we were offered dessert, which we declined. They brought us one anyway - probably to make up for getting the rest of the order so badly messed up. Overall, we saw 4 servers. The name on the check was female, so not the one we started with, and given that we'd had two male and two female servers at that point, I have no idea who got the final credit (or blame).
Overall, we found it to be a very disjointed, disorganized, and generally unprofessional operation. The food was OK as was the value, and I'd try it again for that, but order different things than we had. If I got service like this again, I wouldn't return.
One of our favorite restaurants for special occasions and to bring out of town guests.
Andina never disappoints. Food was great and creatively presented. Service was ezcellent. Special touch with a visit from the owner to our table, what a sweetie. Sunday lunch was a nice, quiet time. Highly recommend! Book well ahead.
Quality food without the price tag! Great little restaurant with Peruvian music.
I took my mom here for her birthday, and we decided that it was the best meal we've had in recent memory. Andina has an extensive small plates menu, so we ordered a few for the table and that was our meal. Everything was exquisite. Everything. Somehow they are able to make grilled octopus have a texture like butter. Amazing.
We had a great server, Don, who was not pushy and who did not rush us, and he made excellent suggestions. Very pleasant server!
The octopus plate is to die for!! Everything is amazingly delicious.. 5star experience!
Coffee was cold twice and service too slow while waiting for desserts coffee and espresso was delivered cold.
This is our go to restaurant for special occasions. This time was our anniversary. Food is always great and service superb.
I’m familiar with Latin American cuisine and Andina’s dishes are nothing short of superb. The empanadas, yucas rellenas, lomo saltado and alfajores are the best I’ve ever tasted.
My birthday dinner at Andina was one of the very best dining experience I have had and will go down as my favorite restaurant in Portland!
We had a gift card and it took us several months to use it. The only regret we have is that it took us so long!! FINALLY we found a restaurant in Portland where the food is actually amazing and it’s not just talk! The flavors of every ingredient are so good and they all go together so well. We shared two small plates and also had the seafood and lamb dinners. We shared two desserts and had a Mayan hot chocolate that has espresso infused vodka (served with a square of dark chocolate) ... heavenly! We can’t wait to go back!
We were pleased with everything despite a brief mixup with our orders. Also, I received an email stating that I didn’t show up. This was wrong - I was quite early, and my guest was a bit early.
Absolutely love this place. Exemplary service and food. Pisco sours all around add a festive flair to assorted savory small plates and decadent desserts! Can’t say enough good things.
The staff were great, the food was amazing and I loved my time there. The only downside was that it was very noisy because the space doesn't have great acoustics.
We really enjoyed our meal. My son and spouse both raved about their dishes. I have a lot of food restrictions (gluten free and vegan) and I was just glad I found something to eat. Given the prices we expected better service - it wasn't anything to complain about really, I just got the sense that we were low on our server's priority list. The atmosphere was warm and sophisticated and we loved the live music, though we couldn't hear it where we were seated.
Andina is a special treat for nearly any occasion. The cuisine choice between traditional Peruvian food and modern adaptations is nice...and I think it has the best ceviche in town. Attentive service and a excellent somm. It's not the quietest place in town...but get one of the window booths and it cuts down the conversation noise considerably.
Eat here. Today.
Andina remains one of Portland’s culinary jewels. Delicious food, knowledgeable and friendly service, and a great selection of wines and cocktails.
