From the heart of Michelin-starred Chef/Owner Johnny Curiel comes Alteño. Curiel’s newest creation pays homage to his Jaliscan Highland roots and traditions, incorporating a mix of heritage flavors and rustic preparations that spotlight the cuisine and culture of the iconic Los Altos de Jalisco. The spirit of Johnny’s restaurateur father, the original Alteño, is felt in the very soul of the restaurant.

The campestre influence woven throughout Alteño is inspired by Johnny’s childhood spent in the mountainous region of Los Altos, known for its rolling hills, historic colonial architecture, and wild, untamed land. Chef Johnny and his partner and wife, Kasie, developed the beverage program balancing top-shelf, native Mexican flavors and agave spirits like raicilla and mezcal, with classic cocktails and a wine list that includes a selection of Mexican, European and American wines overseen by Alteño’s in-house sommelier.

    We went to Alteño for the first time last night. The food was delicious. Lots of good flavors. We were really surprised that the restaurant was more than half empty yet open table showed no reservations. The staff even commented that it wasn’t what they wanted on a Saturday night. I checked the reservations and it showed completely booked yet no one was sitting at most of the back of the restaurant. We had to order all of our entrées at once, which was strange and we ended up with too much food so that was a little disappointing. I would go back and try it again because it was delicious, but having to order all at once not really something I want to have to do at s such a nice restaurant.

    Everything we ordered was delicious but the jalapeño cornbread and the carne asada are out of this world!!!

    Every bite was delicious, Fiona and the rest of took great care of us! One if my favorite restaurants in Denver.

    Absolutely unbelievable! We went with 6 adults and were able to try 7 items on the menu, family style. The cocktails (hibiscus marg & avocado marg are a must try), food (elote, aquachile, crab & avocado salad, al pastor, chuleta de res & pollo a las brasas) and service (Ryan) were all top notch. Our table had a special guest appearance from Chef Eric, thank you! Looking forward to going back!

    Our server Fiona is one of the best. We have been to all 4 locations and this was such a wonderful experience. The food is perfection.

    All of our food choices were .excellent. Service was perfect. I look forward to returning soon. This was my 5th visit.

    Very interesting dishes that were very delicious. Our server was knowledgeable, gave us recommendations and overall good service. The drink service was slow. The dining both configuration was not conducive for conversation. The noise is unacceptably loud. I loved the food and will return but I would ask for outside table because of the noise level.

    Everything about it was spectacular. The ambiance was cozy and elegant, the service was impeccable, and the food was out of this world - fresh but decadent. Our minds were blown at Alma Fonda Fina so we were eager to try out Alteno, which offered the same incredible dining experience. I don't know which restaurant we'll be back to first, but we will be back!!
