From the OpenTable editors: Chef Johnny Curiel grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico, and started washing dishes in his dad’s restaurant at age 14. Today, the Michelin Guide considers him the best young chef in Colorado and awarded one star to his first solo restaurant Alma Fonda Fina. In a light-filled corner space filled with warm ceramics and woven textiles, he puts out soulful and modern Mexican fare—think seared hamachi aguachile, lamb shank birria, and tacos folded with a 12-hour brisket confit.

We invite guests to relax in a space accented by reclaimed wood, — sourced from the oldest building in Denver — clay-inspired wall treatment, an abundance of plants that evoke the feeling of Mexico City, and artisan finds from Johnny’s home state of Guadalajara.

    This was our second time eating dinner here. Excellent food and service, and a fun cocktails list. Not ideal if you are hard of hearing, as the restaurant is on the smaller, energetic size, but we'd definitely recommend it!

    MUST VISIT Hands down, it is the best Mexican food I have ever had. The staff is incredible, and each dish is not only full of flavor but also inspired by a story behind each item. I was able to steal a reservation and felt like the luckiest person around. RUN don't WALK to enjoying a meal here.

    Sat at a table instead of the bar this time- I think the bar is more fun. The food came out super duper quickly- almost too quickly? But loved everything so much. Do NOt miss the sweet potatoes dish. We had it for dessert actually- sublime!

    Exquisite, tasty small plates. Fabulous service next to a large picture window so you get a view of a quaint neighborhood. We kept ordering more dishes as we saw people next to us enjoying them. Make a reservation.

    We had a wonderful experience at Alma Fonda Fina. I got an afternoon reservation and everything was wonderful. We were blown away by the quality of the food - flavor profiles I’ve never had before. Neat vibe that I’ve not seen at another “high end” restaurant. Definitely recommend.

    Sometimes the proof (of excellence in this case) is right before us! The couple next to us, at the Chef's Counter, were enjoying their 3rd visit to this fabulous spot, in 3 consecutive days!! And my lovely wife - not an adventurous diner by any stretch of the imagination- absolutely Loved the Scallop Crudo! Notable, as she "doesn't like scallops! She said, "we should bring Chris (son) & Amy here for Father's Day. Then there's me - over 40 years in 5 Star Hotels, in F&B. Always hoping to find a Gem... and I did! Trust Us Treat Yourselves!

    Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and service. The food, drink, service and ambiance is what you would hope for at a Michelin star restaurant. Would recommend to all.
