Affare has a nice menu. I enjoyed the half trout, with changes made to accommodate my gluten and lactose sensitivity. It has pleasant seating, not too crowded. The service was okay.
Far too expensive. nice atmosphere and good waiters
Fabulous food & service from Cy. Looking forward to the next time!
Food was excellent as always. The live music at brunch was the perfect volume and added lovely ambiance. Our server, Dara, was fantastic! She was genuinely friendly, professional, and made our experience even better.
The food was amazing and there was live music during our brunch - the perfect way to wrap up our weekend. Can't wait to go back!
Great Food and Atmosphere. Our server was awesome and we found out that she is also a chef.
I’ve long enjoyed this little gem. The owners (chef & manager) are amazing and bring their authentic German recipes with a creative twist. The ambiance is intimate with lovely artwork and furnishings. I enjoyed the Forelle unter Mandelkruste (aka trout, almond crust, caper butter, spinach Yukon Gold potatoes), and my friend ordered Jägerschnitzel, of which she raved. The trout was sublime. We shared a salad prior to the entree and don’t miss the warm pretzels and house-made dip prior. The staff from host to server is also excellent. A perfect evening!
Food was xlnt. 3 of our party of 4 had the Thursday nite 4 course tasting menu (lentils in aspic, root vegetables cod w/ cream sauce; chicken breast w/ mushrooms, carrots chocolate tart). Each course served w/ wine. A great value at $44! Our 4th had a bratwurst plate - also xlnt.
Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu.
The 1st time for 2 of us & we will most definitely return!
Wish I had taken pictures. We had the Thursday night tasting menu with wine. Amazing food and the dessert course was one of the best I have ever had. Four courses, 3 wines $44. The best value in town. Service is always friendly and attentive
Awesome. Totally.
We have eaten there several times and we never had a bad meal. We started off with the escargot chowder. It eas eonderful. I had bacon wrapped venison mignons, w/red wine shallots, stone fruit compote, potato leek confit and black truffle. My wife had the bouillabaisse w/lobster, scallops, shrimp, mussels, lobster broth, fennel, tomato, saffron garlic aioli and croutons. Both were excellent. The server was very helpful. When asked for help pairing a wine, that would go with both our entrees. He texted the owner, who recommended a wonderful red wine from Burgundy, France that went well with the food. For dessert they had a special Strawberry Tart w/ citrus sorbet, which my wife enjoyed. I had their Black Forest cake w/strawberries and Chantilly cream. Wonderful.
Good food but overpriced , excellent and very attentive service
Matthew was solid server. Great service. Great food. Drinks were fairly inexpensive.
This place was fantastic. I wasn’t expecting it to be so romantic and modern. I went here for a date and couldn’t have been more pleased. The food was great!!! We had the Wildteller as an appetizer and it was delicious. It consisted of a game meat platter. As the entre we both had the Hirschmedaillons. Everything was cooked perfectly and the potatoes that came with this dish were amazing! I would return here again. It’s perfect for a romantic evening or a good time with friends and family.
Great food, reasonably priced. Absolutely marvelous service in a relaxed atmosphere!
Superb Valentine's prix-fixe meal, and a great value as well. Both sophisticated and approachable (last night's hempseed encrusted salmon with brulee of banana and artichoke hearts: to die for! PLEASE put that on the menu!). Chef Martin earns his place among KC's top chefs each and every week, with notable accomplishment in seafood, game and vegetables. In fact, I'm not sure you can get a better fish preparation anywhere else. Try that baked trout!
We couldn’t have had a better experience! My wife and I came for Valentine’s Day and it was amazing! Our waiter(tony) was on point and matched our personality perfectly! We will be back!
Once again Affäre proves why it is one of my favorite Kansas City Restaurants. There is so much thought put into each dish and some pushing the boundaries which is what separates a good restaurant from an exceptional one. We attended for the prix fixe Valentine's dinner. The service was exemplary and we received a full explanation of each course. This is important when the chef/artist has something to say. Since I am limited to words here, I'll talk about a few of the incredibly outstanding presentations. The German snail soup with profiteroles was everything I wanted it to be and more. The soup was rich and flavorful with just the right amount of salt. The profiteroles were an unexpected and brilliant touch. They looked like tiny oyster crackers with a much denser mouth feel. Just lovely! My husband had the hempseed crusted salmon with banana-black pepper brulee. I was blown away by the audacity of this pairing and equally blown away by how incredible it was. The sweetness of the bananas with the fresh salmon and then black peppercorns punching their way through to the top was pretty incredible. Perhaps my favorite dish of the night . The main courses were equally exceptional. Scallops sweet and tender (perfectly cooked) and beef tenderloin w/cheek en daube accompanied w/ horseradish cream, and a beautiful touch of a beet in the shape of heart. The beef needed no knife. It melted in my mouth. the horseradish cream was not invasive, but a perfect accompaniment. Last we have dessert. Not something thrown on the table to end a meal, but a beautiful presentation of a passion fruit tart with strawberries on top, accompanied by a presentation of house-made chocolate gelato with tiny bits of cake (texture like angel food cake) to complete the canvas. I liked the dessert because it wasn't cloyingly sweet. The gelato was incredible. I liked to take a bite of it with the tart-sweet of the passion fruit tart. Kudos Affäre!
Kiki was our server, and made the experience even better.
The food was to die for. We will be back !
Amazing special menu for Valentine's Day. All three courses were delicious and artfully presented, and the wine pairings were wonderful.
our first time and thoroughly enjoyed -- waitress (KiKi>) was delightful, Fixed VD meal was great -
Impressed with the venue - drapes separating restaurant - very cool - wall art, - nice looking bar - overall great vibe, we'll be back !
Ps the escargot chowder -- AMAZING!!
Valentine’s Day ❤️
Dinner on a Sunday night. The weather kept people at home, but we had (another) exceptional dinner. Great menu, great preparation, great service. We are never disappointed.
Always an amazing time at Affäre, especially for brunch with friends, bottomless mimosas and live lounge music!
Absolutely our favorite restaurant in Kansas City now! Love the atmosphere (lighting and ambiance was fabulous! The service was awesome! Always kept our glasses filled and waitress was willing to answer our questions. Good was second to none! So good and very authentic! It is pricey, but for a reason. You won’t regret this experience.
The best breakfast/brunch in the KCMO metro area. The best. The staff are courteous, fast, and helpful. The chef is a master of their craft. The setting and scene is clean, spacious, and easy to get to. The drinks, food, and menu options are 5-star quality and for anyone on any diet. If you miss out on eating here, I feel sorry for you. This rivals the best of the brunch/breakfast places in lower Manhattan, NYC, and is very much worth frequenting. I’d recommend the steak and eggs, mimosa, or the eggs benedict.
This place was amazing! Food came out at perfect times and the portions were exactly what you want. Didn’t leave hungry, but I also didn’t leave feeling bloated
Their Thursday night Prix Fixe menu is an amazing value. Every course was great, but the tuna poke on housemade noodles was one of the best things I have ever eaten. The wine pairings were great, the Tement Blanc, served with the first course was so much fun. I need to find that wine and take a bucket of it to the lake this summer. The service was great. Attentive without being fussy, very knowledgeable of the menu and wines. I was impressed.
I had the Bouillabaisse and my wife had the Venison. Both were great. Not to worry when you see the Venison and it looks well-done. They serve medallions and are not sliced so you don't see the color until you slice it. Done to a perfect med-rare. Also, not being sliced it holds the temp better. The escargot soup (don't worry if you don't like escargot...) had many layers of flavor and made for a nice share app. Love the Wednesday no-corkage as we can bring a bottle from our own cellar/already paid for and not marked up. This really helps to keep the tab reasonable and is a big factor in our decision to go there. Knowledgeable and friendly service too.
In town for business, I more or less stumbled on this German restaurant. What a find! Of course my German heritage is what drew me here in the first place, but once there, the traditional German fare and wonderful staff made for a very pleasant evening. The co-owner wife, Katrin, took care of seeing us delightfully fed, while the co-owner chef prepared the dishes. I saved room for the apple strudel with some vanilla ice cream--the best strudel I've ever had! A super find. I plan to return next visit to Kansas City.
The food was superb and our waitress was excellent. She explained the German wines ( which were new to us). We have been disappointed by a number of restaurants lately, but Affäre was wonderful and we will go back and we will recommend the restaurant. It was nice to see so many people walking around the Crossroads area.
I have been wanting to try Affäre for quite a while so we decided to go for Sunday Brunch. If you're thinking you'll do the same, make a reservation because it filled up within 15 minutes of opening. We enjoyed a live jazz band with a fabulous bottomless Bloody Mary. Stick with the German specialties and you won't be disappointed. I enjoyed the German breakfast which was an open faced omelette with bratwurst, potatoes, onions, and cheese. The schnitzel breakfast also looked amazing. However, it's dessert that topped everything off. The German cheesecake made with quark cheese was not overly sweet along with the apple strudel. We enjoyed the experience so much we plan to come back for their Thursday 4 course dinner with wine pairings. I can't wait to explore more meals here.
I cannot say enough good things about Affaire. Having traveled to Germany, this food is most definitely authentic and brought my husband and I back to our wonderful trip. The Sauerbraten was quite possibly the most delicious thing we have ever tasted. The Schnitzel was incredible and tasted just like what we had in Germany, every chance we could. We started with one Currywurst brat to share as an appetizer, and it was impeccable, along with the sauerkraut and red cabbage. We shared the Salat Teller, which was ALSO delicious. We could not eat everything on the menu that we wanted to try, so we will definitely be back for the mushroom soup, more of the brats and the apple strudel-just for starters. We will highly recommend this restaurant to ALL of our friends. Thank you for an incredible meal as we relived our fond memories of Germany!
A great choice for authentic, tasty German food. The lively action at the bar doesn't interfere with dinner table conversation. A friendly, young staff keep things informal. Food is carefully prepared and served beautifully.
Delicious and gorgeous food, recently went there for Saturday brunch and the live jazz made the experience even better! Bottomless mimosas and modern German cuisine.
What can I say that will make you want to go to this place? I have several food allergies and Celiacs. So much of their menu is gluten free and corn free. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful. Amazing Vermouth- you can get a flight of 4 for $20- and the Brats! I loved them so much I bought 5 to take home so I could enjoy for breakfast for a few days. Only downside is if you want dessert. There is nothing gluten free but that is a small price to pay for safe delicious food. Ate here 3 times, never got sick. Definitely worth going to if you love German Food and have to be gluten free. I mean how may places are there to eat in that are allergy friendly and knowledgeable? Go and try the Vermouth.
The service was great. The helped us pick a wine and made sure that we liked it. The German food was good and authentic.
This was an incredible experience. Food was terrific and the service even better. Katie explained things in detail. We’ll be back and soon!
Best Bratwursts! I have Celiacs and a corn allergy. The waiter went over everything and was very knowledgeable. Will come back!
Was there for the jazz brunch. Loved the entertainment, great food, great staff. Nice way to spend a leisurely Sunday.
