I didn’t get a refill on my drink until I was done with the meal and the food was a bit bland. I only liked my appetizer :(
My son and I took my husband here for dinner on Fathers Day and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was the first time my son had been there. He is a real foodie and was raving about this place. We each had half a dozen oysters to start followed by cucumber buttermilk chilled soup.
My husband and I both had the soft shell crabs which were delicious. Our son had pork with macaroni and cheese which he said were perfect. I hadn't been to Acme in a long time but now I will be back very soon!
Fabulous experience! Food was exceptional. Unique cocktails and great service.
Excellent service by Kim. Food was wonderful. Really liked the cucumber buttermilk soup!! Oysters as always were wonderful.
Good food, some dishes better than others. Skillet cornbread is a must! Great cocktails. Loved the decor. They also have a nice patio. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Ww will be back!
High school graduation
The back patio was an amazing setting for an awesome meal!! The cornbread i will dream about!!! The drinks are incredible with hand- crafted syrups.
With the weather turning more pleasant sitting on the patio and enjoying comfort food rates a BIG CHEER!
We had delicious cornbread, very good salmon, made to order just the way we like it. The waiter was excellent. We sat outside by a lovely Fountain and enjoyed our dinner. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Ordered the Acme breakfast. Two eggs over easy, bacon, grits, biscuit, and small bunch of greens. The eggs were over cooked, the yolks were solid instead of runny. Bacon was also over cooked, too hard to cut or bite into. Grits, biscuit and greens were fine. Been to Acme many times, this was a let down.
Everything was outstanding and great for celebrating. Higher-end dining.
We love going to Acme but the last couple of trips have been somewhat disappointing. This past weekend, we made the trip specifically for the soft shell crabs the chef had so lovingly described in his newsletter. Having been away from the east coast for so long, I was really looking forward to this meal. After reading how fond the chef was of these little gems, I would have expected nothing but respect in the preparation, letting the main ingredient shine through. Instead, these delicate crabs were drowned in common, heavy batter and deep friend then smothered with a red pepper sauce. Why?? They could have been so good pan fried simply with a little good butter and gentle seasoning. To make matters worse, they were served with boring white rice and a handful of arugula. My husband said his steak tasted fine but was a little tough. He wasn't impressed with his previous meal either. As for service, we ordered oysters and another starter but it took a full hour to get to the main course. With two starters, I don't expect a fast meal but 30-minutes per course is a little much in our world. On the upside, the oysters were very good. We've had good experiences in the past but, after two misses, I'm afraid it will be a while before we try again.
Delicious appetizers. This time we had fried green tomatoes and followed with main courses of pecan crusted chicken and Cajun gumbo both entrees were excellent and generous portions. Nice selection of wines and craft beers as well. We won’t wait as long to come back.
Acme is always first choice with our crowd. Wonderful food and atmosphere. Farm fresh vegetables, special seafood , steaks and chops. Always look forward to meals there.
Sometimes Acme is great and other times not so much. This time was the latter. We started with the cornbread special and a bowl of the carrot soup. The cornbread was good, but the butter had an odd sour taste to it, almost as if it were sour cream. I enjoyed the soup, but my wife thought it was too spicy (and she generally likes spicy food). I had the crab cakes, which were fine but nothing special. My wife had the forever roasted pig. The meat was swimming in sauce, which overwhelmed the taste of the meat itself. She was very disappointed.
Went for brunch. Got the regular breakfast 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes and biscuit and one of the different breakfasts, hoppin john. Very delicious. Will go again.
The food was very good and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend it and will return myself.
This was a repeat visit to ACME and we were once again stuck in side room that was too warm. The food for everyone was just mediocre and expensive. We were a party of 6 and they attached a 20% gratuity on to the bill automatically which seemed unnecessary since it was not a large party. The ambiance was a confined space with lots of people and bustle.
We love going to ACME. The food is always amazing and worth paying a little extra for.
Generally I love Acme, but on Friday we had to wait over an hour for our food, the wait staff was great, but the lag time between appetizer and entree was way too long.
As always terrific!!!! Best food in town terrible parking situation needs to be resolved somehow.
We try to go to Acme on Tuesdays because of the prices on Tuesdays and the food.
The value is good if you go on a Tuesday night when they have a special. But be careful as the special is only for the main entrée. So you can easily add to the bill when you order an appetizer and dessert. There is one price for desserts and it is overpriced. When we asked for bread we were told that they no longer serve any. Perhaps they want people to order the cornbread?? We always look forward to delicious bread before we order. So this is a disappointment. Our waiter seemed extremely busy and on occasion we had to catch him as he flew by. I recommend the Carrot soup which is excellent and plentiful. But the sauce for the gumbo was tasteless. I usually order the salmon which is quite good and served the way you like it. We enjoy Acme's ambiance. It is a true bistro southern style.
Acme is one of our favorite spots. The food is creative. It's a bit noisy but otherwise excellent.
The food was great, but we felt a little ignored. I wish I could recreate that cornbread with goat cheese butter recipe!
Absolutely delicious food and fantastic service. Thank you for an outstanding experience!
It was a great afternoon brunch for Mother's Day. We have also previous been there with my fiance's parents and loved it! Great Carrboro gem!
Consistently great food and service! This was our first time for brunch, and it was terrific
Delicious food. We had a window seat at the front and many flies were trying to get out, to no avail. Servers seemed new and unsure, but said they both had worked there for multiple years.
Acme has been my favorite restaurant. A group of us took advantage of the Acme Mother’s Day dinner - a complimentary main dish for mothers.Very generous. Missed the mark tonight. Food was ok. But worse, the most unfriendly server we’ve had in our many Acme visits. Not up to usual standards. It wasn’t even that crowded. Disappointed since I made the recommendation.
Arrived for early Mother’s Day dinner on Wednesday, May 9 with our 2 yr old. Slow service - it took 20 minutes for first drinks to reach table. Many servers scattered about who did not acknowledge our presence. Food and beer came in bits and pieces. 30 minute lag time between ordering and receiving one small dessert item. With a toddler, we were ready to go after awhile. Eventually left. Great food with great beer selection but service was utterly lacking.
We sat outside and that was the best part of brunch. Food is overpriced and not up to local quality. Coffee cake was too dry and drowning in whip-cream. Two of us at the table ordered the eggs Benedict. The hollandaise was tasteless, english muffin was burnt, ham was overcooked, fried green tomato was over fried. The dressing on the green salad was strangely sweet in a unpleasant way. Also over dressed. The breakfast potatoes was dry and overcooked. The waitress did not both to ask how our meal was or I would have shared this with her. Shame to see what once was a good spot go so downhill. Wont be going back.
This has been our favorite restaurant ever since we moved here for13 years. Always great creative, local food and friendly prompt service, but not often quiet. Not rowdy, but can be full of happy people. Tuesdays are a special value.
Acme is always good. That's why we go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The crab cakes and pecan pie were good until I found hairs in both items. I told the host and they said that is awful, do you want to talk to the manager. I chose to leave
Long line to check in for reservation but seated promptly, our table was small and VERY close to next table. We waited a LONG time for server to come back to table after getting us water. Actually drank all the water before orders. Server did not offer up specials- but we were ok as we knew what we wanted. Food was prompt and as always delicious. Only complaint was that frites were under steak so got soggy. Do NOT skip dessert - pecan and cherry pies are amazing.
This is our absolute favorite restaurant. The food is always superb.
We Ate outdoors near the fountain, which was lovely. The dish that we shared was triggerfish; however, it was undercooked. I was given a second piece that was better cooked, which reflected well on the service. The regular cornbread with maple butter was to die for! No room for dessert. Liked our waiter who was very accommodating with my wine section.
Had a wonderful time at Acme! The food is spectacular and the service impeccable. Favorites from the night include: "forever roasted pig", fried green tomato appetizer, cornbread of the day and short ribs.
