Outstanding as always! Already looking forward to my next visit in two weeks!
Menu offered a great variety . Kim the waitress offered great service. Food was excellent! Overall experience was great!
Horrible experience at Acme Food & Beverage Co on 1/9/17. Came to celebrate a friend's birthday. I gave a slice of cake for my birthday friend. Finished our meals and decided to try a bite of the cake that I had gifted to my friend. General Manager Steven Murtaugh approached our table and stated that "we did not have standards" with a very disrespectful and offensive tone. For the rest of the night, he continued to eye us to leave. Called the restaurant back, and Murtaugh continued to talk in an derogatory manner stating that we came on "discount night" and to "never show my face in the restaurant again" (pretty comical that he says this considering that he is not even the owner of the restaurant). As a group of asian females, I believe that we were racially targeted as a minority group in the restaurant as I wonder if he would have handled the situation the same way if a group of white men did the same. Be aware that this restaurant needs to work on its customer service and reputation as a "neighborhood restaurant".
I had the so-called Gumbo. It tasted OK, but far from special and the portion was more of an appetizer, and it was not what I considered Gumbo. My meal consisted of a about 1/5 cup of rice centered on the plate with four shrimp placed around it. Then there was a gravy, with a couple slivers of sausage, covering it. I asked for bread to go with it but was advised that they only had cornbread which I declined. Very disappointing and would have bee permissible if it's cost was $8 instead of $22 My dinning partner's salmon meal was a bit better but not special either. The food served was far from gourmet even though it was presented as such. I have had good meals there in the past, but only about half the time. So many better options steps away: Spotted Dog, Venable, and even the Jade Palace is far better and consistent.
As usual, great food and service. It was a New Year's Brunch special menu and the crab omelet and smoked salmon hand pie were both excellent. Good service in the crowded room.
We had a delightful New Year's Day brunch reunion with old friends. Great menu. Everyone had something very different and all were delicious. Thanks, Kevin!
my friend and i were at Acme for an early rez on New Year's Eve. I was not impressed. Our waiter was totally unenthusiastic about everything and seemed quite bored (and this was the beginning of service about 5:30-6:00) He wasn't rude, just not at all gracious. Our cocktails were very good (French 75s) as was the chicken liver pate which we shared. However, both of our entrees were dinner plates piled with the vegetable sides with, in my case, a small piece of Mahi-Mahi seemingly cooked with little or no seasoning and looked as if it were leftover from another diner's plate. My dinner companion ordered crabcakes, again a huge amount of creamed spinach with burnt black tops on the two crabcakes. A complaint to the waiter brought another cooked crabcake to the table although his message to us from the kitchen is that they had been seared. I've never heard of seared crabcakes and wouldn't care to have one; in our opinion, crabcakes are delicate and should be gently cooked until golden brown. I had been to Acme quite a few times over the years as I lived and worked in Chapel Hill in the early 2000s. I remember it as a cozy restaurant with quite good food but I'm sorry that I won't be going back ... it's changed and not for the good.
We had a great family brunch around the holidays. Our table was ready when we arrived, our server was friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. I look forward to going back!
Visited ACME for Sunday brunch with friends from out of town. They loved everything about the the place from the moment we walked in. Our waiter, Lahoda, was friendly, engaging and full of info to guide us to the ‘right’ menu selections. The food was perfectly prepared and flavors were great ( handmade pie, grits bowl, omelets). We lingered over coffee in order to catch up and enjoy ourselves, never feeling rushed out. Our visit reminded me to come back more often.....and we came from Durham! Go ACME!!
Nice friendly professional service with tasty regional food. Nice selection on the menu. I would return when in the area.
