About this restaurant

The views alone are worth the visit to 5th View – the surprising hidden gem of a restaurant on the fifth floor of Piccadilly’s branch of Waterstones. Sweeping across London towards Big Ben, it’s an outlook which any restaurateur would give sell his soul for. But rather than rest purely on their windows, 5th View have created an indulgent Champagne bar with a decadent feel and excellent food. Sumptuous and comfortable with a gentlemen’s-club-meets-boudoir-meets-country-mansion look, 5th View combines tactile furnishings with classic design and a buzzing atmosphere. A mouth-watering menu brings together the very best seafood out there, including native oysters, Devon crab and Scottish salmon, all of which are beautifully accompanied by a fine Champagne menu.

I booked this for a business meal - big mistake. What is not clear when you book is that this resturant is on the 5th floor of Waterstones. You have to leave and enter through ground floor waterstones, when visiting the toilets (half level), you then see waterstones level 4, it is not even seperated off. The decor looks good in the photos, but in reality it feels like a cafeteria. The view is also a waste of time. On the positive the food is reasonably priced and the quality is good, the only problem is a very limited menu. I wont be returning in a hurry

I went to 5th view with some colleagues from my old workplace, and while we had a good time and the food was tasty, I left the restaurant hungry even though I'd paid 15 pounds. Sounds not bad value for the area, but to need to eat more when you get home, it's not worth it.

We had made a reservation for lunch and were seated at a window table, which we enjoyed. The restaurant was not full, but it took a long time to get a waiter to serve us. Other people were waiting too. The food came fast and service picked up. My salad looked lovely and was very good. My friend had a sandwich and was happy with it. The food was good, but not excellent. If you are in the area and want a quiet place for a meal, I would recommend it. It is on the 5 th floor or the Waterstone Book Store and far removed from the crowded tourist places. There is also a separate bar/cafe area that is a bit dark, but seemed a nice quiet place.

This used to be classy and light but its dark and cafe like now. Average food and wine Choices and slightly overpriced. Shame. It used to be lovely.

I booked for a business lunch. When I arrived they didn't have my top table reservation and wasted about 10 minutes before giving us a table. Not good. Very basic food. Cob salad was dry and unappetising, spread over an unnecessary, too-large plate for the small table. We ordered coffee and waited over 30 minutes and had to chase them 3 times. No apology. Waited again for the bill and finally had to go and wait by the bar. Food poor. Service appalling. Only thing going for it is the view. But be careful if you sit near the window the cold air blows through them. It was bellow zero out when we were there and we had to move as the window wouldn't close.

We noted that breakfast stopped at 11:30. We made a reservation for 11:15 to ensure we could order before they switched to lunch. Arrived early (11:10), but were told that breakfast was closed and no food would be served until noon. We were a bit confused but after speaking with the server (who spoke with the manager), we ordered breakfast. It felt like they were doing us a favour though and that dampened the mood. The view is nice, looking out over the roof tops of London. The food was average with nothing to set it apart from any other restaurant. The restaurant itself is a bit tired looking. Nothing at all to make us want to return when there is so much to choose from in London.

Chosen based on online reviews--what a disappointment. Met friends at 10:30 on a Sat for brunch. No staff to be seen, tables and chairs were abandoned as they'd been left the night before. One person was late; we ordered coffee. When the straggler arrived, we called the server. Pen and paper in hand (now 11:25) we had each chosen from the breakfast menu. After hearing the orders, she informed us that we could no longer order from the breakfast menu; they stop serving breakfast at 11:30. Not wanting to be difficult, we quickly changed to lunch items... only to be told that lunch would only start at 12:00. Asked if they would make an exception as we had been stuck in a protest. No. Views are okay--the rest not worth the effort.

Pub type food at restaurant prices, 3 of the mains were 'unavailable'! I ended up having to have caesar salad as a main which was a bowl of dry lettuce, hardly any chicken (extra). Asked for the bill 3 times and for the first time in my life had the service charge removed from the bill. Certainly not a "hidden gem" in Londons West End!!

A great meeting place for lunch or afternoon coffee/cake in central London that doesn't feel you are in a chain restaurant or that get's overly busy. Service is always slow, but the setting is relaxed, and the food is good and its become a regular stopping point.
