Though they haven't yet figured out how to handle a parent's weekend crowd that sits and sits at their table (therefore delaying the table being ready for the next group), they handled this with aplomb. The food was great and local and well-priced. I love eating here, it's the best restaurant by far in town.
I had the vegan tofu special and was not disappointed. Also, the layered crepe was unique and outstanding. A must try!
Absolutely loved our experience... we will be back & plan on staying in the hotel!
Always good food and service,
Excellent menu! We ate twice for breakfast and dinner during our stay. The food was delicious with fresh ingredients.
I'm from a very good food town and this meal was excellent, healthy, local, and delicious. The service was also outstanding.
The nicest restaurant in Oberlin. We enjoyed it and would go back. The walleye was delicious.
Good food, good service.
I tried to note that this restaurant was good for weekend brunch but the webpage would not let me click the box for brunch, only lunch. Lots of air conditioning, however, so bring a sweater. Nice clean airy space.
Great find in the hear of Oberlin. New, fresh and modern decor, this is a gem in the middle of town -- it's fresh, creative and tasty cuisine really has something for everyone. Everything is well priced, and the variety of dinner options (full plate dishes, pizza, sandwiches, burgers) really hits the spot. Hearty, american food that is well priced and comes out quickly. Well deserved high ratings here!
Recommend hotel AND restaurant to out of town business guests. One guest said "The Hotel at Oberlin was great! What a charming town".
Decent food I had the hanger steak an my wife had the walleye. It was good and priced reasonable but not over the top by any stretch of the imagination.
The food was excellent...unique approaches using fresh, wholesome ingredients. The staff was attentive and pleasant, very accommodating. Our only disappointment was the décor; it really had the appearance and feel of college cafeteria with hard surfaces that also made it noisy.
My husband and I very much enjoyed our meals - beef for him and perch for me - outstanding flavor, texture and presentation. And we adored our smoked salmon appetizer with its literal slate of ingredients for us to put together ourselves.
However, our waitress - who was pleasant and helpful in taking our order - disappeared midway through our meal and didn't return until the end. In the meantime, we were in the hands of a young busboy who twice tried to remove plates and glasses we hadn't finished with.
Finally, I really wish that 1833 would fine a way to crank down the noise of that concrete-floored space. When the room is full - which it nearly was that night, it's almost impossible to hear your table companion. I get sustainable building issues and the choice to not use carpeting. But how about tablecloths to dampen some of the noise? And how about ceiling dampers to take some of the awful echoes away?
My concerns notwithstanding, we'll be back for the fabulous food and will continue to recommend 1833 to others.
simply charming and excellent food
service was great and the décor is beautiful
My pork chop was very good but others at the table didn't fair as well. The French fries were so salty, they were uneatable. It took forever to get our food, at least 30 min. from the time we ordered for a pork chop, short ribs, and two hamburgers. We were never offered dessert.
The place was freezing. The table was so cold you couldn't touch it. We ordered hot drinks but that didn't help much.
We really enjoyed our delicious dinners, but the AC was sooo cold.
The staff was very friendly and professional. We will return
with sweaters.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at 1833- the food is exceptional, and the service was above and beyond!
Each time I dine here I'm always pleasantly surprised by a unique new offering on the menu.
When we ordered our small plates the charming waitress pursed her lips in friendly disapproval -- she told us we had to make room for the brussel sprouts. And boy howdy was she right! They were prepared with truffle butter, and they were the highlight of the meal! So, do go, and do ask the staff for recommendations -- and trust them!
Food and service we're fine but it was way too noisy. We could not have a conversation. I will not be back.
We were greeted and brought to a small separate room with lovely table settings and we were immediately greeted by our waitress and one of the managers! Everyone was extremely helpful, pleasant and everywas very inviting! Our food came out in a timely fashion and it was all not only wonderfully displayed but all of it was delicious!! Thank ounso very much for making my dad’s birthday extra special!! I had purchased a gift card for him but the only thing was that when presented it was as if the restaurant had gifted it to him rather than my sister and I! That was the only thing and we just explained it to our dad ( he just turned 84 so couldn’t figure out how they knew it was his birthday and why would they give him money hehehe!) but no harm no foul so we had a wonderful time and great food! Our waitress was wonderful and we simply loved her! Thanks so much for a delightful time! We will be back!
Bright and cheery. Good food! Service friendly but very slow. Waitress seemed to forget we were there. Need to sharpen service otherwise great.
A great and varied menu!
Great food and good service on a very busy night. It's a bit noisy but we really enjoyed our evening there. The food is well prepared, and very good. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
Always great food and service and usually pretty noisy.
The Mother's Day Brunch was lovely - our party had a wonderful time.
Have been to both Easter and Mothers Day Brunch. I found the Mothers Day Brunch food much better. You run out of dessert too soon
Went for the first time on Mother's Day and the food and atmosphere was excellent!
The Ballroom was beautifully decorated and very spacious. Staff was very friendly and helpful service was great!!! FOOD WAS AMAZING!!! Rick Fender was so very friendly , came to our table to check on everything!!
Delicious with great preparation and presentation!
Mother’s Day brunch was excellent. Seating was such that it never seemed crowded. Food choices were varied with something for everyone. Price was on par with other brunches on Mother’s Day.
Enjoyed our dinner @ 1833 in Oberlin. It's close to home, the food was very good and prices reasonable. All in all a pleasant dining experience.
Very much enjoyed my salad with salmon. Friendly service. Modern and clean space.
1833 is the best restaurant in Oberlin, OH. I have eaten there several times, whenever visiting my daughter. It is dependable. The setting is casual. The food is tasty, service is generally good. The menu has numerous options, including vegetarian and vegan.
Recommend, fun place with really good food, excellent service!
We were there for the Easter brunch buffet. Both food selection and quality were excellent. The staff did a superior job keeping the serving stations well-stocked, clean, and neat.
The only suggestion I have for the 1833 staff to keep the hot foods a bit hotter. We felt some of the selections should have been served hotter than they were.
Other than that, everything was great. A wonderful selection of breakfast and lunch items, salad station, and superior dessert selections.
9 members of my family attended Easter brunch: the food was delicious, seating comfortable, lovely jazz music playing at a moderate level so we could actually talk -- overall a wonderful dining experience!
Hidden gem in Lorain county! Visiting family and happened upon 1833, lookin forward to our next visit!
Terrific simple salad and walleye. Deviled eggs were too salty but everything else was great - my daughter loved her steak.
A beautiful, modern space on the first floor of a new hotel. It’s a pleasant environment and the food was excellent. For dinner we had chicken paprikash and Mac & Cheese. Both were excellent.
For breakfast - French toast and the best pancakes I’ve ever had!
Highly recommended!
