Portland City Grill
Dinner at PCG on their last night has become a tradition when my husband’s sisters (ages 76 and 79) visit each year. We started with the tempura shrimp, delicious and a very generous serving. We got two orders of the 18 ounce ribeye to share between the 4 of us. They divided it for us in the kitchen, and we each got a full serving of potatoes and vegetables. We had the cookies for desert. Everything was delicious, and the service was awesome. We have eaten here several times and this was the best meal I have ever had here. A memorable evening.
We celebrated my daughter's 23rd birthday and sat at a table with a beautiful view overlooking the city. Birthday confetti was delicately placed and service was immediate. The Pinot Noir and Lemon Drop were delicious The Crabcake appetizers were some of the best I've ever eaten. My filet was a little overdone, but the gracious waitress totally agreed and sent it back without hesitation. The mashed potatoes were creamy and vegetables perfectly sauteed. A surprise birthday chocolate mousse arrived with a candle to top off a perfect celebration!
Our server, Cody, was great. Food good, but pricey. The views are lovely, however, and this is the main draw. My Wagyu steak was over cooked, so the server had the kitchen redo another, and that was cooked perfectly. The crab cakes were delicious. The manager kindly insisted on giving us a dessert because of the steak, even though I was full.. I appreciate l, however, that he cared enough to offer an apology. Hey, stuff happens! I would go again, but maybe just to snag a bar table by the window and have drinks and appetizers next time.
We went for Easter brunch. The selection was nice, service was good considering how busy it was. We were delighted to have been seated at a window table with a wonderful view.
I made the mistake of thinking that because I was looking up brunch the open table app would have given me day time hours for reservations l, it did not and our reservation was was for EASTER BRUNCH, was for 10:45 PM. I have to say it was fine and they were able to accommodate our party however the hostess was not kind or friendly at all. She was rude and unwilling to help at all. Another person came to help her and she was s Little better but still not the service I would expect from this establishment. She told us to wait out of the way while she checked with the manger who then got us a table. While I’m Grateful to have gotten in, I believe more understanding, a little common sense and an attitude that represents the class and get it done approach of a high end establishment would have served better.
Always a great experience. This is our second time for Easter brunch and it was better than the last. The offerings have been updated, some new items on the buffet and some additional offerings from the kitchen that made it even better. After many visits, we still haven't had a clear day to see Mt Hood but it has to happen eventually, right? :-)
Great experience .. Waitress was hilarious and took the time to chat
I reserve two weeks to get a window table to celebrate my birthday with my husband and got whatever the wanted to give me. And on top they were urging that if I wanted to get a table I had to wait one hour and half. I just had to take whatever they had available because we were hungry. For the money I spent and did not get what a wanted to get I would not recommend.
Views are absolutely amazing, but the host needs some training! We were a few minutes early for our Saturday early dinner reservation so it was suggested for us to wait either at the bar or in the elevator hallway. In order to decide where we wanted to wait, we asked about an approximate time of wait. She became very snappy and said she could not give us any estimated time and basically was dismissive. We had already been warned about the “greeting” part to this restaurant (no greetings/welcoming, no smiles, and expect full on attitude). Well, we got what we were forewarned about. Host appeared to be upset because she was the hostess, because she had to work or simply because she was overwhelmed. I’m
Sure if this place didn’t have the beautiful view more people would stop Going because that leaves a bad taste in your mouth! You are spending over $100 (minimum) for a meal for 2 so you would at least expect some
Graciousness at such establishment. I’ve never experienced such unprofessionalism at any great rated restaurant (at any 5star rating restaurants for that matter).
Their only saving grace was our server Courtney. She was quite the opposite of that initial experience. Would we ever go back if visiting Portland? NO! Would I EVER recommend dinner there? NO! food was good, but not impressive for the amount of money you’re spending. Would I recommend a drink there? Absolutely! Go for one drink during sunset hours. You’ll save yourself some money while enjoying the view and you won’t feel unwelcome by that awful hostess. Invest in hostess training Portland City Grill! It makes a world of difference to your customers.
Arrived a few minutes before our reservation but had to wait another half hour to be seated. We waited in the bar which was fine. I ordered a steak medium rare, it came out closer to well done. Sent steak back but second one seemed lesser quality as there was a tough outer membrane that was left on my steak
Great service and food
Drop-dead views, excellent albeit pricey food, combined with attentive and cordial service make for an enjoyable evening out.
Basically was seated in the kitchen, food was extremely salty and way overpriced for the quality, waitress was very nice however.
It was our first time in Portland and the hotel suggested we go to Portland City Grill for a good steak and a great view. We opted for the bar area as it provided a better view. Since our appetites weren't great and steaks seemed overpriced, we decided on a few appetizers and cocktails. The drinks were fine, but the food was below average. The pork belly sliders were too chewy and essentially inedible. The other two appetizers were a little better and we washed them down with wine. Aside from the view, there isn't much to recommend about Portland City Grill. Every other meal we had in Portland was outstanding, from Higgins to Bluehour to Bullard. But if you just want a drink and a view Portland City Grill might be for you.
Absolutely wonderful experience. A must if you visit Portland. Reasonable happy hour and beautiful view.
Took my boyfriend to PCG for his birthday and to propose to him. Izzy really took care of us on our special occasion. Definitely the place for a celebration in Portland. Beautiful day, great food, great service, great view. Highly recommended, especially for a special occasion.
First time sitting by the window and the view was incredible. Our server was very cordial and knowledgable, but not over the top. Food took a little longer than I would have expected for a Tuesday night, but we weren't in a hurry. I had the filet and it was perfect. Love their green beans!
Awesome food and service but it was hard to have a conversation sitting in the middle of the restaurant. My son wears hearing aids and it was hard for him. He really enjoyed his birthday dessert!
Food and service were top notch. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. We were celebrating a birthday and the extra attention was provided. The views from the restaurant were fabulous. I always look for cleanliness and decor. This place hit the mark.
I made these reservations as a tourist to Portland to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Instead of a table by the window, we were sat at the booth next to the kitchen. The view must be the reason that people come there because the food can't be. The prices are astronomical and the quality is not reflective of the cost. I ordered steak and salmon Oscar with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. My steak was overcooked and the Bernaise sauce was awful. My asparagus was burnt and the mashed potatoes were tasteless. I have been in hospitality for 25 years, am a chef and love good food. This restaurant was truly a disappointment.
I was not disappointed. It's a very nice establishment and the service is excellent. That said, I would like to go there just one time and not encounter people in hoodies and baseball hats. It's a nice place, put on some nice clothes for once this year.
We had an excellent dinner at this restaurant. The wedge salad I had was the best wedge I have ever eaten. The dressing wasn’t the typical blue cheese...creamier. Outstanding.
And the Rib Eye steak (a healthy portion) I ordered was prepared perfectly. Melted in my mouth. Lastly, the vegetables were asparagus and green beans, and again, very good taste.
Portland City Grill is not cheap, but worth spending a little extra for ambiance, beautiful view even on a rainy day, and great food. I would recommend it highly for special occasions.
had a great time when we went for a dinner. food was amazing.
I Asked for a window seat when I made the opentable reservation, when I called to confirm the opentable reservation, and when I checked in on time for my reservation. 15 minutes after our reservation we walked by four empty window seats on our way to be seated in the middle of the dining area. Its partially my fault because I didn't ask to be moved, however customers do enjoy being listened to.
Aside from this brief mishap, the service was astounding and the food was even more so! wonderful atmosphere and great drinks!
Food was terrible, wow has this place gone downhill.
The place to go for a great view, amazing service, and superb food. I usually get the Filet, which is amazing, but I got a Salmon dish this time that will become a new favorite! Just be prepared to wait a long time if you want a window seat. But the views are good from most everywhere, so no worries.
Had a great time. Our server was amazing. Thank you.
This was my second time to PCG. We loved it so much the first time that we didn't even think about looking for somewhere new for the birthday celebration. This visit changed things. When we were ordering our entrees, it would have been nice if our waiter, Jeff, had told us that we all got potatoes and vegetables each entrée. We probably wouldn't have ordered the extra asparagus as we had also ordered salads and an appetizer. Jeff was friendly enough at the beginning but when I asked why we didn't get plates for our shared appetizer (crab cakes which were the best ever!) he said he would bring some but we had already finished them. He became a less friendly with us after that. He did bring us bread plates before our entrees arrived. I didn't care for my wine selection (his pinot noir recommendation - one stp up from the house wine) as it tasted a bit vinegary; he was a little surly when he delivered the menu so I could choose something else. My replacement glass (Duckhorn Cabernet) was great. And he did bring a celebratory birthday cake to the table which was very much appreciated. In spite of all of this, he was still well tipped but we will look for a different restaurant for our next special occasion.
really disappointing dinner experience - food was soaked in oil, heavy sauce. of our party of 4, none enjoyed their meal. service was slow, inattentive. would not recommend nor will we be back
I would of thought that reserving for a birthday months in advance would warrant a window seat. Otherwise, food was very good.
Best city view, great food, super happy hour, too. Plenty of small plates and less expensive options if you are on a budget. Perfect place for a celebration!
Enjoyed the view at this restaurant. We were here to celebrate our anniversary on our last night in Portland. Our servers were very nice and welcoming. Our dinner was good, the beet salad was really good. I had a filet and wanted it rare, it came out overcooked unfortunately. The green beans were just okay that came with the dinner. My husband scallops were good but the concoction of vegetables under the scallops were just okay. My wine was not very good, it did not taste like a Malbec so I thought they poured me the wrong type of wine but unfortunately it was a Malbec. They were kind enough to give us a dessert to celebrate our anniversary which was delicious. They did comp the filet that was overcooked but not the wine which is fine. I just hope someone checks their wine to make sure it was not opened too long.
It was amazing. Sky, our waitress, was so helpful and informative. We had a great time. Thank you
Great happy hour. Great views. Food was underwhelming for the high costs.
The view and service were impeccable. My brother ordered a steak that was too well done. The vegetable also tasted off. This Is a nice restaurant, but Portland has better deals to offer.
Enjoyable Experience. People were friendly and service was outstanding. Food was excellent!
service was great. Food was pretty marginal for the price. Menu is all over the board. Sushi with tortilla soup and steak was a weird combo.
Skewers were over salted. Service was excellent.
We had a managers meeting there and everything was wonderful. The service was great and the food was delicious. It was a bit noisy for conducting business but we made it work!
