We celebrated our Anniversary, it was a great meal, great service, we had a wonderful time.
Ambience.... but food could have used improvements
Picked this place at the spur of the moment and was pleasantly surprised. Very quaint, somewhat romantic atmosphere. I had the special off menu item of Chicken Marsala that was absolutely outstanding. The consensus with our party of 4 was that the food was very good. I was surprised when we arrived for our Saturday 7:00 pm reservation that the place was empty and I expected to be disappointed was I was not as the food turned out to be very good, more people came later, and they had live entertainment consisting of a girl singer and a guitar player with a backing track.
My only complaint was that the music which I view as background but it may have actually been a bit too loud for our conversation. Otherwise, this is a neighborhood gem.
The food and service was great, but it is a little pricey.
Every time I come to this restaurant and a Stabley Schomann I am always extremely impressed with the care and attention Ali and his staff give to every customer that walks through the door. It is a lovely atmosphere, the food is fabulous, the bartenders are all the best, and the entertainment is sublime. Thank you for another wonderful night
We enjoyed our time at the restaurant. Had to sit out front on the terrace due to an event inside, but the service was exceptional. No view though and I had a different impression of the place before going there. It is not upscale at all, but I loved it for a lazy afternoon with my husband.
Went for a late lunch. Restaurant was pretty empty. My hubby had their Florentine eggs Benedict which he liked. I had the Chicken Breast Kabab. The chicken was delicious and the basmati rice and tzatziki side sauce as expected. But the other little side of diced tomatoes, onions and cucumbers felt more like it belonged with a Mexican dish. No pita bread offered. Our server was okay. The decor is older. No decaf coffee available when we were there. Their little patio has no umbrellas so it will be warm on hot days. I sat inside along the wall on the side with the air conditioning. Those seats get plenty of cold air so sit elsewhere if you don't want that. I've been looking forward to try this
restaurant for a long time. Not sure if we came at the wrong time (different limited menu, no live music, empty, etc) but I left disappointed.
Shrimp kabob deliciously spiced. Hummus, yogurt also very tasty. Reasonable pricing, little dated, but warm atmosphere and when we went quiet. Efficient very good service. Been there several times over the years, and never have been disappointed.
We sat on the patio which was very nice. About an hour into our meal it became very hot. They may want to look into putting some sails/umbrellas on the interior patio.
Perfect eggs Benedict. Fabulous hollandaise. Egg just runny enough. BUT my date ordered eggs over easy and they came scrambled. The sausage was not breakfast sausage. Wierd kind. The potatoes had too many peppers. There were only two tables full including us and service was slow. Not asked what kind of toast. Just white toast delivered.
Food got 4* because of eggs Benedict.
We had an amazing time on a date night. Great music and the food was top notch.
A delightful find just off Coast Highway. There is free parking across the small street. We enjoyed a selection of the beef, chicken and shrimp kabobs, all of which were delicious. The appetizers also are inviting, and there is a fine selection of wine and beer.
We went for Mother’s Day dinner. The restaurant was empty the entire time we were there. . A very “tripped out” Amanda waited on us . Slurred speech, very kick back demeanor, hard to understand. Had to ask for specials which she didn’t know and had to ask someone else from kitchen which she yelled across the room over the loud “background” music. Apparently they were short handed and she came from the bar to wait on us. (?)
We all realized she must have been either drunk or doped up. Anyway, we asked the gal who sat us to take our orders, after we explained our concern with Amanda. So she did.
Music was loud so it was hard to hear our conversation even though the guys singing kept it mellow music. Additionally, The musician was standing by the side door getting his hair brushed and hot ironed by a women. Then she was taking all these pictures of him. It was rather distracting and distasteful as we are waiting for our food to come.
Food came in good time and it was very good! Loved the combo appetizer, chicken and koobideh, kabobs all were good. I think the scallops were excellent!
Over all experience was okay and food was good. Just seemed odd no one else was there. Music was old timer style. They said they’d had a hundred people for lunch so I’m glad for them. Am I Going back again? , probably not . Too many other choices with more attractive ambiance with good food.
Terrible service, constantly waiving down the waiter for service. The food was oily, and bland. We paid top dollar for food that was below average. The waffles were dry and rubbery, awful. Expensive drinks too, nothing special. The restaurant was empty but we were seated next to another full table, our chairs were touching their chairs, uncomfortable.
Great service and awesome food. Will go again soon.
Always a wonderful time with great food and music for an appreciative crowd!
Excellent food and drinks and service
First time dining here, but won’t be the last! Food was excellent and ambience was pleasant!
Went there for the music which was very very good every other Sunday
We went for Valentine’s Day and they seemed to be un prepared even though it wasn’t busy. They didn’t even ask for our reservation. They advertised a rose upon entertainment and that didn’t even happen. The order was wrong as well but I just took it so we didn’t have to wait for each other. They even added an automatic gratuity for 2 people which is against the law so she offered to take it off. Really bad experience.
The evening was not too bad except that the server kept trying to move us from one course to the next despite no need to do so(They were not too busy) and askinghker not to so. Her behavior diminshed an otherwise pleasant evening saved by an excellent guitar duo on Valentine's day
This is a hidden gem! The cuisine is Mediterranean and fire grilled, excellent selection! Central fireplace and ambient lighting for a romantic setting. Excellent for date night. Service was perfect and unhurried. They take special orders, the kitchen will put together just about any combo thinkable! Prices were very reasonable.
Went for brunch and was told that the only available time was 11:00 or 11:15 - the place was empty. We would have preferred to have gone a little later.
Dinner at the Port Restaurant & Bar followed a showing of "The Post" at a nearby theater. The combination of an outstanding movie and a quiet and decent meal made for an enjoyable evening. The Port Restaurant is located on a Corona del Mar side street with a rather nondescript exterior. The interior is also nondescript but the paintings hanging on the wall are interesting. Life music was available on the evening we dined (Saturday). The service was friendly and helpful. The food (barley soap, soup, and flatbreads) were good. The price was reasonable. Overall a decent meal at a reasonable price in a quiet environment. Recommended.
Oh where to begin. Our reservations were for 11 am and even though they were open at 10am there wasn’t anyone to be found. When we finally found someone in the restaurant we told them we wanted to sit on the front patio. We waited about 10 minutes and then decided to get up and tell them that we wanted service. We were the only ones in the restaurant. When the server came out it looked like he slept in his uniform. It had food all over it and then he told us that he was sorry for being late as his phone wasn’t charged last night and his alarm didn’t go off. Well we finally ordered the food to include 2 mimosas. When he came back to the table 10 minutes later (again no one in the restaurant) he put my glass down and then my wifes and he noticed there was something in the glass so he put his thumb in it to get it out. My wife had to tell him that she wanted another glass. Who knows if we got another glass or not. The food finally came out but without one of our dishes. When the other server came out with the dish he pulled a spice container out of his pants pocket and placed it on the table. We finally asked for the bill and then we paid with cash. When the server came back with the change he said we don’t have any pennies so he shorted us 3 cents. You know what they say, “you can’t make this sh.. up” Needless to say we couldn’t get out of there fast enough. We would have left after waiting the initial 10 minutes but we had a Living Social coupon and in retrospect we should have left right away. Do yourself a favor and NEVER GO HERE. This place was as bad as it gets…and for Corona Del Mar, wow….so disappointed
We had such a good time! Make sure you mention if you have a Groupon before you order, as there is information that is helpful to know before ordering! The food was fantastic (Chicken Curry and Seafood Pasta). I ordered a Pear Martini, which I had heard wonderful things about, but it was too strong for me to drink. (I know... blasphemy). Overall, great experience! It is a little dark... we used our phone flashlights to read the menu!
We have always had a great experience for an evening out here at the Port. Music was exceptional Wednesday night. I had the medallions of beef cooked to perfection. Loved the fresh veggies and scalloped potatoes as well as two dipping sauces. Our waitress was Villi (sp.?) who is really the bartender but was friendly and attentive as our waiter (waitress!). I hated the wine I ordered and she cheerfully replaced it with another choice.
I can hardly believe all the very negative reviews I have read about this restaurant. This is the fourth time we have eaten there and have never had a complaint about the food, wait service or entertainment.
Great Groupon deal. The food was fantastic and the entertainment great.
I would not recommend this place as the service was horrible.
We arrived at 6pm, the place was empty as we expected that early. The food was good but the service was so bad it ruined the experience completely. They were out of the beer I ordered, we asked for extra napkins and never got them. The server was no where to be seen although there were only 3 tables sat in the restaurant.
Wonderful evening with friends! Excellent food, spirits, and live entertainment. The owner, Ali, is a great host! He makes us feel welcomed, and we have never been disappointed. Atmosphere is perfect for a date night or special get-together.
It was overpriced. Not worth it but cool paintings and lighting.
Review will be short and to the point:
Service was very good- we felt welcome and our server was energetic and attentive.
Ambiance was very nice- soothing dimly lit dining area, very pleasing wall art and interior design.
Food, in our opinion, was not the best as the entrees and appetizers we ordered had a significant lack of flavor. Portions were also fairly small and overpriced.
In the future, we will probably only come here only for a dessert or drink during live music and can only recommend this restaurant for that.
The most bizarre experience ever!!! Not a soul at the restaurant—meaning no other customers but us the entire time we were there for brunch.
-poor bumbling waiter (dirty uniform, zipper down but he did fix it eventually)
-ordered our brunch, food took forever, one of the dishes: brioche egg dish w/caramelized onions came out on a toasted English muffin (not brioche) w/rubbery egg omelet topped w/plastic cheese & no onions in sight.
Poor waiter bumbled for about 10 minutes how they’re out of brioche but no one told him & replaced it w/another dish that also took forever.
I had to share my friend’s dish cuz we were so hungry by then...btw, her dish had zero resemblance to what they named “Chilaquiles” but more like a giant stack of tortillas topped with an omelette & cheddar cheese. Strange to say the least.
Odd place, odd vibe, odd mixed up menu. Sorry but these are exact facts.
Went for Sunday brunch. Only 2 couples there. Did not have food list ed on their menu. We would not recommend.
The restaurant is dated. The music is way too loud, although it is fun to have music. I think it would be much better if you were just going to the bar. The food was good, but it is remarkable that they don't have lamb skewers as they usually offer this in a Mediterranean place.
Port restaurant is an intimate little neighborhood gem. Informal, attentive service, nice selection of lunch, brunch and dinner items.
Great place Great Service Great Music
Nice place to just relax and unwind
Great food, very loud music. If you like to be entertained great place to listen to music. If your going for quiet dinner out , go very early
Went for a Sunday brunch with my parents (father disable in a wheelchair). Park across the street but be prepared to lift wheelchair over the curb. Prix Fixe brunch was a good value. Local Jazz group was really great and was also fun to see other musicians come in and jam. Give The Port a try, you won't be disappointed!
