Great food - allowed a substitute for a side... great service- friendly staff
Delicious food and excellent service at brunch. The place is small and tables are very close together, so it got really loud quickly. But a great dining experience!
Small restaurant with excellent service and food. For brunch the crab cake biscuit is fantastic!
We are regulars at Plates for dinner but this was our first time in for brunch, and brunch under new chef Jake Wood, in fact. I made reservations the day before and I'm glad I did because they are often completely booked come Sunday morning. The menu offered a large variety of both sweet and savory dishes and the portion sizes were generous. All are unique takes on brunch comfort foods - the "bae Berry biscuits" put Bojangles to shame based on size alone. Looking forward already to our next meal at Plates!
Visited Plates with a few friends to celebrate a birthday. There were six in our party and we did make reservations in advance. The food was just delicious!! We order the majority of the menu and none of us could complain about anything. Can’t wait to go back!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Plates Kitchen! It never disappoints. The prices are great for amazing quality food. The flavor combinations are unique and delicious every time. We have been here several times and highly recommend it!
Delicious food and friendly service. Bae berry biscuit was so yummy!! Crab Benedict was the best we have ever had anywhere.
I booked table for two for Valentines for 9pm.
1. Table wasn’t available at 9pm and had to wait at the bar
2. 50% of the entrees (steak and fish) were over by 9pm. No bar snacks was available.
3. I had to request to bring us another serving of bread itself which took forever
4. No one even cared to even lit the candle on our table
5. No one even cared to refill water
6. The only entree we ordered was for my wife - vegetarian steak made of cauliflower. That was too salty too.
7. After all this they still charged us for drinks
8. At that time there was no other place we could have gone and this was a disaster of a Valentine’s Day experience.
1. The cocktail with pineapple rum was really good.
2. They didn’t charge us anything for food.
Great food and drinks, service was slightly slow but they only had 3 people to work the floor Valentine’s plus it’s the south so I take into account that everything in the south is slower service wise. Seriously amazing food. Very good drinks. Loved it!!
New menu by Jake Wood is amazing! Got the valentines tasting menu and did not disappoint. Fantastic blend of flavor that definitely makes this one of my favorite restaurants in Raleigh now. Can't wait to check it out for brunch. Bar snacks staring this weekend looked good as well.
Food was horrible, they ran out of food and service was slow !
Stephanie is an amazing waitress and she really helped make our Valentine’s Day dinner special. The food was amazing. The wine was amazing. It was all amazing!
Valentine’s Day! Tasting menu was delicious. Entree less so, but bill was half comped. Service was excellent. Wine pairing perfect. We would go back!
The service was excellent, the food that was served was very good. The menu left something to be desired. My partner does not eat meat, and that limited the menu to a single item.
A well-prepared brunch was enjoyed by everyone in our group of four.
Love the rotating menu! The food and service was great and we can't wait to come back when the weather is nice so we can sit outside.
Felt like the server was trying to rush us out of the restaurant.
Brought the wrong drink order twice.
I took my husband out for birthday dinner.
There was no one to greet us when we walked in, so we stood there for 5 minutes. This is not a big place so it felt awkward. They sat us right by the door so we never took off our coats. The mediocre food took entirely too long to come out. And they didn’t honor the specials they had posted on their website. I will not be returning to Plates.
Worst Birthday Celebration EVER!!
Delicious and creative dining with a perfect southern twist! Great spot for a work meeting lunch and I can't wait to go back for dinner.
With an updated decor and new chef, we had high hopes for Plates. However, the "Southern" menu was not for us. The "shaved" catfish was actually fried and lacked flavor. Lots of fried items on the menu. The caesar salad with shrimp also lacked a distinctive flavor. We had an uproarious table of celebrating women next to us. Glad to see them having a good time, but it was impossible for us to hear one another. On the plus side, the wine list was decent and our server was friendly and competent.
The portion sizes were disappointing, and the pork belly was overcooked and charred. The pork belly was not enjoyable. Given that it was supposed to be the star of the dish, I enjoyed the squid ink rice and roasted Brussels sprouts much more than the actual protein. Very disappointed, and when I raised the issue with the server there was no resolution or accommodation. Separately, my significant other's fish portion was very small, and the potato to meat ration was way off.
My daughter and I totally enjoyed our dining experience. The service was very good and the food exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Plates is best of the best of all Raleigh restaurants! The food is always fabulous, the service is always TOP-notch, and the ambiance can't be beat. 'Hands down my favorite DT Raleigh restaurant for all occasions.
Myself and two other friends went here for restaurant week. The food was very good I enjoyed the atmosphere but the only part I was disappointed with was the portion size. My meal was quite tiny and only took me 4 bits to eat. Not sure if that was because it was off the restaurant week menu or if their portion sizes are always that small. I would give this place another try but if I'm going to pay $20-$30 for an entree it needs to be enough food to make it worth it. Otherwise place was nice.
Food was good. Really nice ambience. Not the most kid-friendly. And service was a little bit slow today.
The food was well worth it . The service however was lacking in many areas .
We went for the first time for Triangle Restaurant Week and we will certainly return! We highly recommend the goat cheese pimento cheese, the brussel sprouts, the seafood and the Atlantic Beach tart! Between us and the 2 couples next to us, whom we didn't know, we tried everything on the menu, and it was all great! Watch for the spiciness of some of the vegis! Just ask your waiters, who are very knowledgeable. Although the seating is a little snug, it did not take away from our visit! We would return and take friends.
I hadn't been here in years, but we went for Triangle Restaurant Week and were not disappointed! The flavors were southern and comforting but also refreshing enough and didn't feel too heavy. I'm gluten free and loved all of the options.
The soup course was fantastic. My lumch overall was just okay. The catfidh poboy was so heavily battered that I could hardly detect fish, and the roumelade was way too heavy.
Husband and I had a fantastic dinner at Plates! The menu was so good that we had a hard time deciding what to choose and went with recommendations from our server, which did not disappoint! Drink selection was also fantastic. My cocktail was exceptional. We finished off the meal with the best sticky toffee pudding in Raleigh! I'm looking forward to returning to try more tasty treats. Highly recommend!
We love a limited menu that offers great options, and that's exactly what we got last weekend! Also loved that the place was filled with diners and they all looked happy!
As always, a fantastic experience at Plates. The new menu is exciting, and the food was fantastic. You can go casual or dressed up, the service is excellent, and it's always a pleasure to dine with the folks at Plates. You won't go wrong!
Great service but the food was lacking flavor
Visited Friday, January 18th and had a reservation for four. This was my third trip to Plates and I have always been pleased. This was my first visit with the new chef. Service was perfect- attentive but not overbearing. I wish I could remember her name, but she had great recommendations. Two appetizers and four entries were all delicious. We had duck fat hushpuppies and beet tartare (one of our party is gluten free so waitress suggested substitution for the crackers) for appetizers. For entrees we had fried chicken, catfish, and scallops. Spicy chocolate ice cream for dessert. Everything was fabulous.
Your staff was wonderfully accommodating! We were celebrating my birthday and they did not rush us in any way. Thank you for that!
Delicious food, a vast improvement over the previous kitchen. Plates is now in good hands.
This was my first visit to Plates, and I could not have been more pleased. The Shrimp and Grits entree is the best I have ever had. I understand they have a new chef, and they have a winner. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. I also loved the parking in the back. This is a perfect place for a business lunch. I cannot wait to try it out for dinner.
Tables wayyy too close together in such a small space. Our server, Raymond, was THE sweetest, and he was very attentive. He represents your company well! The food was phenomenal, but I had to pause several times when speaking to my friend because the drunk women next to us were so loud. The noise level here is terrible because you all have the tables so close together. I struggled just to get past the table to sit on the booth side of the table, and I had to have my butt all in the face of the couple next to me which was so embarrassing and rude, but I had no choice. I know y'all have limited space and need to make money, but at what expense to your customers' experience? I would love to bring family here and recommend to local friends, but I'd almost rather order out just to get the food. Don't make my family and friends miss out on how awesome Raymond and your other staff are because of the almighty dollar! Make room! :-)
Great food! We’ll be back!
Delicious food, fantastic waitstaff, prime location and an eclectically cool vibe give Plates a 5-star rating! Every visit is wonderful! Plates has become my go-to restaurant!
