Our party of six had a fabulous dinner on Saturday night. Two ordered the short ribs and both loved them! The meat fell off the bone and it was so delicious - a very large portion. Two in our party got the pork chop and they said they were the best Pork chops they ever had. The salads were lovely with the perfect dressing! And the fish with the gold rice was wonderful. We will be returning often. An added benefit - they keep the music in the background as should be. We enjoy dining and having conversation, not listening to a concert! There are other good restaurants in town but we avoid them because of the noise level. Oh my god - can you even talk to each other at Poole’s? No no no
I really enjoyed the event they were having. It felt like more of a community event than just dining. I will definitely go back!
Sat outside. It was intermittently loud, but we could hear each other and have a nice conversation. Three of us ordered small plates and shared. The other person in our party had the pork chop. Everything was delicious. Definitely try the brussel sprouts and the goat pimento cheese. Out of this world! For dessert the sticky toffee pudding is a must have. It doesn't sound great, but it is - authentic and delicious!
Cool place... did not care for toast appetizer. Tasteless. All other small plates were good. Not great but good.
Don’t get the fritters unless the chef doesn’t burn them. It’s the simple things..... service was great all around. The space inside and out is very nice. The striped
Bass and arugula salad were very good!
Perfect for a girls brunch!
Really enjoyed Plates on a Friday night. Staff was attentive beginning with hostess. Decent selection of Beers, wines by glass and bottle and cocktails. We had 2 small plates, The Pimiento Goat Cheese, which was very good, It had 3 hoppin john cakes which were small round breaded black eyed pea patties and the goat cheese had jalapeno and bacon bits mixed it, a little spicy but too much and very tasty, We also had the blue crab -scallop fritters which were three decent sized breaded balls also very good.
Entrees were Bucket of Granny Helen’s Fried Chicken
crystal cane syrup + pantry pickles + hominy + cracklin- very tasty, the sauce t bottom of small bucket was a little hot and good but no overly spicy. Hominy was well prepared and fresh tasting. My wife had the Pan Roasted NC Beeliner on the Half Shell
carolina gold rice + embered spring onions + melted tomatillo +
citrus-herbed yogurt 2- which is a filet piece of red snapper, Only had a bite but it was also good, She really like it. The quality of food is very good and staff is also.
The server blamed the kitchen for being slow before even putting in the order, and our order came out with no timing issues, so I don't know why she felt the need to tell us that....? Took quite a while for our server to greet us though and it seemed like she was actually just making excuses and throwing the kitchen under the buss just because she was behind. I absolutely cannot stand when I go somewhere and they have eggs benedict on the menu but the eggs aren't actually poached, so you DON'T actually have eggs benedict. And the server told us that only some days they can poach an egg, but that the day we went was not one of those days.. If that is true yall should make a list of days they can poach an egg, so I know when to come. Luckily being in the company of great friends and family helped, because we all had a great time, but no, I will not be recommending Plates Kitchen to anyone.
Delicious. Best deviled eggs I ever had. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the service was impeccable.
Good experience- very good food and servicer (Alice) was very good. Noise level makes it difficult to enjoy the meal- should invest in enhancing the experience for guests rather than the current open ceiling decor.
Wonderful meal and service! The beef short ribs with grits and desserts were fabulous! We'll definitely visit again.
Great little restaurant. Interesting and creative dishes. Owner is friendly and informative. Great service!
Went for brunch. We all ordered the Challah Back brunch meal which tasted great. The Bloody Mary I ordered was also good. I would definitely recommend trying their brunch.
Fantastic!! I will definitely return! Great food, drinks, and service!
Outstanding! Highly recommend the fried chicken or Denver steak.
We tried brunch at plates and really enjoyed our experience. Make sure you ask the hostess to validate parking when you arrive!
Small portions. Over priced food with uneven flavors.
Amazing! Perfect dinner date for my boyfriend and I. Service was incredible. Attentive, but not bother some. Will definitely be back.
Jake and his team are doing phenomenal things at Plates. From the moment we walked in until we departed it felt as though we were part of their family. Warm inviting atmosphere and the food was amazing. The staff were personable and attentive to every detail. I had the Scallops with blue crab-country ham velouté, polenta, country ham & collard agrodolce and my husband had the Granny Helen’s Fried Chicken with crystal cane syrup, collards & hominy. Both dishes took us on a beautiful journey of flavors and when we both saw the hominy we both were transported to warm memories of our parents and grandparents and their deep roots here in N.C. as all grew up in farming families. My husband summed it up when he said Sunday fried chicken with family. The scallops were cooked beautifully and the pairings were perfect it was scrumptious!
Great food and amazing fried chicken. Love this place.
Food is delicious, very well seasoned and inventive.
Excellent meal. The tilefish was superb, and a shared cheese plate was right for two. Nice wine list with reasonable prices. Excellent service. We'll be back!
Went for brunch, food was delicious and creative, reservation was on time and service was great. We will be back
Great food - allowed a substitute for a side... great service- friendly staff
Delicious food and excellent service at brunch. The place is small and tables are very close together, so it got really loud quickly. But a great dining experience!
Small restaurant with excellent service and food. For brunch the crab cake biscuit is fantastic!
We are regulars at Plates for dinner but this was our first time in for brunch, and brunch under new chef Jake Wood, in fact. I made reservations the day before and I'm glad I did because they are often completely booked come Sunday morning. The menu offered a large variety of both sweet and savory dishes and the portion sizes were generous. All are unique takes on brunch comfort foods - the "bae Berry biscuits" put Bojangles to shame based on size alone. Looking forward already to our next meal at Plates!
Visited Plates with a few friends to celebrate a birthday. There were six in our party and we did make reservations in advance. The food was just delicious!! We order the majority of the menu and none of us could complain about anything. Can’t wait to go back!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Plates Kitchen! It never disappoints. The prices are great for amazing quality food. The flavor combinations are unique and delicious every time. We have been here several times and highly recommend it!
Delicious food and friendly service. Bae berry biscuit was so yummy!! Crab Benedict was the best we have ever had anywhere.
Some combinations have too much going on
A friend and I tried Plates Neighborhood Kitchen --I had never been there for dinner. Parking can be tricky so allow time for that. The menu was interesting and featured entrees seemed to take ingredients well known in southern cooking and combine them in unusual ways, sometimes successfully and sometimes not so appealing. I got the crispy NC catfish which was perfectly cooked and I wish I could have had it on a plate by itself. Catfish pieces were crisp on the outside and perfect and moist on the inside. But they were served in a bowl atop butternut squash, parsnip pique and cracklin jam. the end result is that the catfish was atop a very sweet group of foods which were tasty but not as good mixed in with the catfish. Other dishes had the same approach: a caesar salad made with chicory and radishes, an endive salad with jalapeno farmers cheese, grapefruit and lemon buttermilk ice--you get the idea. I don't object to creativity, and my favorite restaurant in Raleigh puts together unexpected combinations but they end up being absolutely delicious, as opposed to a bit jarring with the sum not as tasty as the parts.
Service was perfectly amiable.
I booked table for two for Valentines for 9pm.
1. Table wasn’t available at 9pm and had to wait at the bar
2. 50% of the entrees (steak and fish) were over by 9pm. No bar snacks was available.
3. I had to request to bring us another serving of bread itself which took forever
4. No one even cared to even lit the candle on our table
5. No one even cared to refill water
6. The only entree we ordered was for my wife - vegetarian steak made of cauliflower. That was too salty too.
7. After all this they still charged us for drinks
8. At that time there was no other place we could have gone and this was a disaster of a Valentine’s Day experience.
1. The cocktail with pineapple rum was really good.
2. They didn’t charge us anything for food.
Great food and drinks, service was slightly slow but they only had 3 people to work the floor Valentine’s plus it’s the south so I take into account that everything in the south is slower service wise. Seriously amazing food. Very good drinks. Loved it!!
New menu by Jake Wood is amazing! Got the valentines tasting menu and did not disappoint. Fantastic blend of flavor that definitely makes this one of my favorite restaurants in Raleigh now. Can't wait to check it out for brunch. Bar snacks staring this weekend looked good as well.
Food was horrible, they ran out of food and service was slow !
Stephanie is an amazing waitress and she really helped make our Valentine’s Day dinner special. The food was amazing. The wine was amazing. It was all amazing!
Valentine’s Day! Tasting menu was delicious. Entree less so, but bill was half comped. Service was excellent. Wine pairing perfect. We would go back!
The service was excellent, the food that was served was very good. The menu left something to be desired. My partner does not eat meat, and that limited the menu to a single item.
A well-prepared brunch was enjoyed by everyone in our group of four.
Love the rotating menu! The food and service was great and we can't wait to come back when the weather is nice so we can sit outside.
