fun though busy ambience. be prepared to sit at long tables. interesting food. We particularly enjoyed the beef carpaccio, the buret, the stuffed aubergine and the cured trout.
Our food was lovely, but I have marked it down as I had fennel which was stringy and which I couldn’t cut through. We were recommended to order 3 dishes each, but 2 each, or at most 5 between 2 of us would have been ample, and we left quite a lot. Everything was delicious though, with unusual flavour combinations which really worked. The ambiance and service was great - unstuffy, professional and friendly. We will definitely go again.
Highly imaginative food full of taste, very fresh and beautifully presented
The Manager and staff could not have been more obliging in seating our party of six. The food was, as always, divine. If you love Ottolenghi's recipes, the Ottolenghi Islington will live up to and surpass all of your expectations for communal eating and family atmosphere.
Excellent vegetarian food. Beautiful to look at and full of flavour.
Delicious food as always, great service. Really enjoyable evening which my Canadian friends thoroughly enjoyed!
Little chaotic with seating when arrived and had reservation for theatre so not as much time to enjoy experience
We were initially sat at a long table, squashed in with other diners (2 of us, opposite each other), like school dinners - it would have been impossible to have any sort of private conversation. I asked for a side table and was told I would have had to call them in advance for one. In the end we sat at the bar, which was OK, though very much 'on stools' and in the hustle and bustle . My bill for two of us, with the cheapest bottle of wine, five tapas dishes between us, no pudding or coffee, was £87 without service - not cheap (though I have to say, it was delicious) . But more a cafe experience than a restaurant.
A party of 2 we had a lovely evening with great service provided by our host Yessin, to accompany delicious food and wine recommendations.
We would definitely return
We travelled to London to have diner at Ottolenghi's and to see the Bonnard exhibition.
De evening at Ottolenghi's restaurant was inspiring, creative and excellent.
Great dishes with surprising flavours. It exceeded our expectations (which were already quite high).
Nice atmosphere and service. We'll return absolutely.
This is the second time we went to Ottolenghi Islington. Love everything about it: the service, ambiance and the food, which is delicious and satisfying. There were 4 of us each night and we repeated the buratta and the goat. Both are outstanding.
We highly recommend Ottolenghi and will tell our friends when they visit London. Yotam, we love cooking from your cookbooks and seeing you when you visit San Francisco.
The friendliest staff ever. Not a huge menu but very very tasty.
The here is always wonderful but one has to put up with friendly but inattentive service, noise and an relatively expensive wine list. I always go back, though.
Very courteous, professional and friendly staff. We ate late after the theatre and they were very accomodating. Every plate was absolutely delicious, cannot fault one of them, and a nice range of wines to accompany the meal.
This was our second time here and it did not disappoint from a food point of view. Each plate was delicious and tasty. It was a tad cold due to people coming in and out to buy from the delicatessen would be my only quibble.
Excellent food, great atmosphere and lovely food. Not very noisy and only 10 min walk from angel station, hence easily accessible.
What a wonderful experience! We found the food here to be even better and more interesting than what is served at the Ottolenghi in Spittalfields. Even though the room is long and narrow, it doesn't feel cramped. The only suggestion I would have is to offer lighter desserts. Although the desserts look wonderful, they seem more appropriate paired with a coffee for a morning or afternoon pick-me-up. Service was super friendly and helpful. This is a restaurant not to be missed!
Lovely evening thanks for having us, was my first time in your place and I can't believe I have left it so long
A wonderful evening, spent with wonderful food and wine.
We loved sharing one big table, done it before, great dishes, the staff was very personal and thoughtful, attentive.
Food was spectacular. Service was better. I was there alone - they were attentive without rushing me. A perfect and relaxing dinner
Fine food, spicy and delicious, many thanks to yassir for the perfect service, we will be back
The food was wonderful, and the atmosphere was lovely and friendly. I had a look around and everybody looked happy -- it's amazing what really good food will do.
Amazing food, great service and a lovely ambiance. Looking forward to returning again soon!
Have been to this branch of Ottolenghi a few times but would say this was the best yet. Busy and buzzy atmosphere, one dish brought to the table wasn't ours but quickly remedied. We had six dishes between two and it is difficult to say which was the best. The slow cooked goat was amazing and the seared mackerel was so well cooked and delicious. My husband had the rhubarb and ginger cheesecake which he said was really creamy and a great baked desert. The staff are always polite and know the menu well so can answer your questions, we were seated on the long communal table but I don't mind this.
I have dined at Ottolenghi on Upper Street since it first opened and recommended it to many friends and collegues over the years.
Thursday experience was so disappointing it made me question if I will visit again.
The waitress was loud and opinionated and referring to my guest as "dear" on several occasions was at best, inappropriate.
The food was OK but not at its usual standard.
Overall a disappointing experience
Inventive and enchanting flavors, welcoming and informal, patient and well-informed service.
Food is always amazing! We had salads, food from the kitchen and deserts and all of it was totally delicious.
The food was delicious, the service amazing.
All in all a great experience !
I've been to several branches. This is not the best. But it is very good. The service is top-notch, and really delightful. The ambiance, with the shared table, is variable: if your neighbors are nice and don't take up all the space, it is enjoyable or neutral; if neighbors are loud boors, you're doomed. The food was, uncharacteristically, uneven. The fennel thing was delicious, but so chewy that it was hard to consume. The goat was marvelous; the trout was transcendent; the eggplant, okay nothing special. Cauliflower, as always, spectacular.
So, yes, go. Go later (after 8:30) rather than earlier for the best bet of having a civilized environment (not too loud or raucous).
The food was very salty, especially the aubergine from the counter. The service professional, but distant.
The food was good —-not special. The service was perfunctory but friendly.
Excellent as always. Fantastic food, service and ambience.
This was a great dining experience. The food was excellent from start to finish. We highly recommend it.
Food was way too greasy, and the cutlfish arroz was too dry and hard.
Wasn’t really what I was expecting having tried the other branches.
Service was good although left for long periods of time and slow at taking payment.
Food was phenomenal and service was great and attentive
Nice food, but slightly overhyped, portions too small, the carrot mash was quite boring and overpriced. You can find similar fusion kitchen on the same level for at least 25% less in London. Great food, but probably the last visit.
Delicious meal (cauliflower, burrata and chocolate orange and almond cake being the winners that night), great service and the candles completely changed the atmosphere compared to daytime lunch.
Interesting menu with exotic choices, great ambience. Excellent desserts.
On this occasion I was disappointed with two of the three dishes we chose - from the cold menu. We ordered three dishes to share - the waiter suggested choosing dishes to share. The aaubergine dish was divine. However, the fennel dish and the grilled radicchio were not as flavoursome as expected. We also found these two dishes not entirely suitable for sharing - and the knives were blunt which didn't help.
I will however dine here again as I haven't found fault with the restaurant on previous occasions.
