On The Square
We had a terrific dining experience at On The Square last week. Fantastic food and service.
The food is delicious, but the last two times of dining with you, our service was slow. Our reservation was for 6:30 and we did not leave until 9:00.
Great date night experience with fabulous food.
Great spot for lunch, consistent quality
We had a wonderful meal with friends. The food was great. The deserts were excellent. Overall a great evening.
Always a wonderful experience.
As great as always. We had family in town for graduation and they are still raving about it.
Consistantly solid! You can’t buy a better meal! I’ve traveled the entire country, trust me! But don’t tell anyone; it is our Eastern NC secret!
We were s large group with a good amount of dietary restrictions. There was a concerted effort to “get it right” and to not lag behind on anyone’s order. It was a very enjoyable evening.
The food was very good. Prices on salads seemed a bit high. Server was nice and attentive and appreciative of our business but person working bar who served as host and maybe an owner was less friendly and never said goodbye nor thank you as we left nor other guests. Kind of odd.
One of 252’s best restaurants. The drive from Rocky Mount is always worth it.
Great Mother’s Day celebration.
Very friendly and good service. A well planned menu...the grouper was cooked perfectly with well balanced flavours.
Great folks, great food and an awesome wine store. A super spot for lunch ( or dinner)
I travel internationally and am a bit of a foodie. The company I work for is headquartered in Italy. Every time I have colleagues in the country from Italy, I take them to On the Square. The food is good and creative, with some of the regional dishes being the most interesting (shrimp and grits, soft-shelled crabs, fried oysters). The ambiance is clean and bright with nice use of the exisiting, historical building. The best thing about the restaurant, by far, is the wine list. The owners are a husband and wife who were both sommeliers in Manhattan, and the wine choices reflect that. An amazing find in this part of North Carolina.
Delightful, enjoyable evening with fabulous food, great service! Fun atmosphere! Will definitely return and bring friends!
Always nice that Stephen takes the time to chat . The food is on par or even better than that place in Kinston. Fine dining done local.
What a quaint find in Tarboro. Food was excellent & customer service couldn't have been better
We had a great dinner, the service and food were excellent.
The calamari is the best! Amberjack was supurb. We also had the ham and pea app and the crabcake app. Both were delicious.
Always good. Nice evening. House bourbon
Makers Mark a little pricey at $10 each. Will be back.
My husband and I made our first visit here this past weekend since we’ve heard good things and wanted to try somewhere new. I ordered the filet med rare, he ordered the ribeye med well. The filet was well done & the ribeye was almost rare. We never complain about food or send back, but since the server did ask if it was cooked correctly, I showed her and said no, but I will eat it anyway. She just said she would let the cook know for feedback and never offered to correct it. The steaks also had very little flavor in addition to be cooked incorrectly. Overall disappointed in the food, but we made the most of our date night anyway. The glass of wine was great.
Every single aspect of this meal was wonderful.
The atmosphere and food selection were perfect for our business meeting.
We have been coming here for years. It is consistently very good and we enjoy our dining experience. Thanks for your service.
Always a fabulous dining experience...Good people, good food and great environment
Food was delicious. Service was fantastic! Great first experience.
Traveling to Tarboro for dinner was well worth the trip. The food was terrific and the restaurant had a great vibe. According to the owner, Tarboro now has several AirBnB’s so making it an overnight destination makes it even more appealing.
One of the best places to eat in North Carolina. There is nothing but good comments to make on this place!
A quaint gem in downtown Tarboro. Food and service worth the drive.
Excellent meal. The restaurant seemed a little overwhelmed and the service was a little slow and disjointed. Would highly recommend because of the quality of the food but not a 5 star experience overall.
Excellent food, atmosphere, and great company!!
The appetizers were great!!
Good food. It is always cold in the restaurant though.
The food was excellent and so was the service. My only complaint is the lighting is too bright and should be dimmed somewhat.
As always everything was delicious and our friends from out of town thoroughly enjoyed it.
We have dined at On the Square four of five times, and the experience is always first rate. One of the owners personally visited our table to check on our wine selection and be sure the food was to our satisfaction. The service was excellent (almost a little too fast), and food was outstanding as usual. The molten chocolate cake was a wonderful finishing touch. While nobody will confuse On the Square as a budget restaurant, their prices are reasonable considering the quality of the overall dining experience. Can't wait to go back again.
My fiancée absolutely adored this restaurant. It was a quaint little hole in the wall that delivered on its slogan: “great food fine wine”. I got a steak that was cooked to perfection. She got a duck risotto that she loved. The wine was great and the service was spectacular. The only complaint I had was that the music was slightly too loud, but that’s hardly enough to ruin a good meal. We will definitely be back the On The Square again.
This was a great experience, the whole evening was perfect. Food is outstanding we all had a different entree and everyone was thrilled. Would recommend this restaurant again and again. We even tried a new wine for Walla Walla Washington and that was also fantastic. The staff was perfect, helpful but let you dine and enjoy your meal. Can't wait to go back....
My husband and I went for lunch for Valentine's Day on the day AFTER Valentines's Day, which was a Friday. We arrived at 1:15, walked in and stood around for maybe 10 minutes. No one approached us. We finally grabbed someone's attention and we sat at a table. We did not know we had to place our order at the register. No one told us nor were there any signs visible indicating what to do. By the time we figured out what we wanted or what the process was, there were 6-7 people waiting to place an order.
Frankly, the restaurant did not look clean. It was somewhat dark inside, it did not look inviting. nor were we greeted at any point. My husband asked me what I wished to do and, at that point, all I wanted to do was leave. We were not happy. We drove 45 minutes for something we were really looking forward to and it actually was rather unpleasant and off-putting. We are not fussy people by any means but we were feeling that we did not wish to stay.
I am sorry about this review, but we were not happy.
