An amazing sushi experience !! Great food and lovely location, a good place to spend a couple of hours with a tasty sushi and good wine .
I'll start with the positive: the food is decent, the sushi excellent. It is quite a limited menu but everything was done well, with simple yet elegant presentation. The Uramaki and inside/out rolls were all exceptional - and I eat them a lot! Service is friendly but harried; the restaurant is, however, so small that they couldn't fit another waiter in! On the negative, we were late. Stuck in an horrendous jam on the M1, I rang the restaurant 20 minutes before our reservation to explain and was told "don't worry-we'll keep your table". Now - there's only about 10 tables anyway! We got there 20 minutes late - and then had to wait 25 minutes for our table to leave. That means that we would have waited close to an hour if we were on time, which is unacceptable. They have to operate on strict turnovers and they need to enforce it; our predecessors just sat there chatting and no effort was made to ask them to leave. This happened to the other 3 couples who were waiting too. Secondly, it is so cramped that you share everything from conversation to elbow space to the table next to you; not that enjoyable either. Finally - it's not cheap. Everything seems reasonable individually but it came to £180 for 3 so ..... . This is agood local restaurant for a quick bite - not a destination.
I must say after travelling the world and tasting many cuisines OKA is a great find, the food is presented beautifully and tastes even better, you must try the beef bulgogi and marmite chicken ( yes marmite ) an explosion of flavors
The head Waiter Tamer always has a smile and it is a joy to eat there. I can highly recommencement Oka to ANYBODY WHO LOVES GREAT FOOD LIKE MY FAMILY DO. WELL DONE
Love Oka in in Primrose Hill! Really good Sushi at reasonable price.
I went to Oka Pan Asian in Primrose Hill for lunch, and wasn't disappointed. It is a very simple venue with exposed brick walls and plain tables and chairs, but it has a nice atmosphere. The set lunch menu was very good value and the food was delicious. I will return to this place.
Very nice fresh tasty food. Not absolutely consistent every time. But pretty good. Excellent menu, & very pleasant service .
I celebrated my birthday there with my boyfriend. It was amazing evening, delicious food, excellent service, candels make romantic atmosphere. Nice location.
I recommend this restaurant to anyone who love sushi and noodles :)
This was a real find -- the restaurant is small but the experience was great. The service was friendly and welcoming and the food tasty and fresh. Each person in our party had a different main and we each claimed our choice had to be the best. I will definitely be going back.
Service needs improving. There were 3 of us for lunch, but the starters and the mains were both as 2 first and then 1 some time later. This meant that we could not all eat together.
I think that being able to serve 3 meals at he same time is a bit of a prerequisite for any restaurant.
Yet we came all the way from Radlett! Very small so book if going for dinner. Tempura soft shell crab starter - perfectly crispy yet soft inside with very tasty dips. Chicken dumpling miso soup was "Mmmmm". Selection of uramaki, hosomaki was perfect - rice was just soft enough with generous fillings. The dragon roll was so tasty. All generously sized, served with fresh wasabi which isn't as potent if you find the common powdered ones too strong. We also had the Bulgogie Beef and Asian Caesar salad where the meats were so tender. Finally, Hot Cookie Dough with Coconut ice cream to share - sinful! Lovely people, only wish they didn't try to fob us off onto a table for 2 with extra chair when our pre-booked table for 3 was clearly set for us.
Nice food, good service and friendly staff. Well worth a visit
We went here twice during our vacation in London. The food, wine and service was perfect. I've eaten sushi worldwide and this one I loved.
Food at Oka is great - staff extremely attentive and overall good value for money. Recommended!
This place is good, but nothing on other Japanese restaurants in the area such as Sushi Waka and Asakusa which are far better, with more authentic food and cheaper! If you're in the area or local it's fine, but don't expect anything special if you're a fan of real Japanese food and sushi.
Casual Lunch outside the restaurant on a sunny day. Great fusion menu. Had set menu (great value) assorted with sushi rolls and another dish a la carte. Will go back.
We were so happy with this little restaurant!..Service was brilliant..Friendly and helpful. I am a bit of a sushi snob, and was delighted with the quality and presentation. I can think of many sushi restaurants in London, that would be charging twice as much!
The delicate Thai chicken was a sheer delight..Only problem was my lovely daughter kept nicking it off me!
Right now, I cant think of a better lunchtime eaterie!
small restaurant in Primrose Hill with some decent sushi and good, friendly service. The sushi rolls were tasty, albeit the crunchy rice rolls could be a tad bit crunchier.
Interesting selection of cut rolls, such as Mediterranean roll.
Felt compelled to go to Oka after reading a number of great reviews. Four of us turned up for dinner and were given a table right at the back in the already cramped space. As we sat down we were told the restaurant had run out of sushi, sashimi, and any other raw fish dish. So that ruled out over half of the menu!!! There was no apology by the staff or any kind of compensation in turn but we were simply too hungry to go elsewhere. As the evening progressed we noticed plates of fresh sushi leaving the kitchen. I called the waiter over and enquired how come they were serving Sushi only to be told that there was a 30 minute wait for the sushi and the kitchen was dealing with take-away orders as a priority.
Needless to say, any restaurant that values it's take-away custom over the customer who have bothered to come to their establishment, pay service charge and order drinks, has their priorities all wrong.
We left feeling disgruntled and disappointed at the shabby service and the just ok food, Won't be returning.
Food really delicious. Service extremely friendly and attentive. Lovely restaurant - relaxed ambiance and "rendered brick", décor. Not cheap (@ £30/head without wine or dessert) - but a great evening out. Will definitely plan a return visit.
Food was amazing and prices were so good for the quality of the food. A little tricky to find the place but the best sushi I have ever tasted
My second time here and I would recommend the freshly grounded wasabi (which I've never had elsewhere) and the sushi.
Discovered this place after moving to the Primrose Hill area and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality and value Oka provides. Initially I had ordered delivery, wherein the service was very good (they actually called me saying there was a delay) and the sushi was great...then I came to the restaurant with a few friends last Friday and we had a fantastic meal with great wine. The service was second to none as well.
Delicious food and good service - Get the cookie dough dessert!
Small friendly Asian restaurant in the heart of Primrose Hill. Generous portions, fresh tasting food , perhaps a little cramped on a busy day but all part of the character. A welcome addition to the 'village'!
One of the best meals I had recently, the food is very good. We kept talking a out it days afterwards and tried to recreate the marinate and sauce at home. With one drink, one starter and one main each, the bill was about 70GBP. Cannot wait to go back and sample more. Perfect for a casual meal with friends or romantik pre-or post theatre.
We had a lovely evening at OKA - the staff are extremely warm and friendly and offere excellent service. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced - this will become one of our regular haunts!
The food was good. Menu was small, but much more interesting than the average Japanese restaurant. It wasn't the best Japanese food I have had in London, but I really appreciated the effort that had gone into our meal (I think the edamame beans were boiled in some kind of stock- though they put too much salt on it). I think with a little tweaking, the food would be outstanding- So I'll definitely give it a try again. Bonus that it's so affordable (under £30 for 2 of us)!!
I felt a little sorry for the waiting staff- there were only 2, and they seemed so stretched having to serve the diners + receive take-away orders + deal with customers who came to collect food themselves. Still, they were very nice throughout.
Delicious food, great atmosphere, lovely staff! Definetely recommended..
"We really enjoyed our late evening dinner and the quality of the hosting and food and wine.
The restaurant fit out is elegant and refreshing for London. The menu options were interesting as was the wine list and we enjoyed our choices"
We went to Oka for the second time recently - the food is wonderful, and great value, particularly given that it's iin a very expensive location (Primrose Hill). Just as impressive is the great value wines on offer - in spite of there being a limited wine list, the wines that have been chosen are very, very good. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent - we will definitely be back!!
what a great new find! - quiet stylish restaurant, great service, and 3 courses with amuse bouche/warm bread/sweet treats/and a glass of wine, for £22
Went here before show at the Roundhouse. Food was absolutely delicious including a fantastic SeaBream Ceviche on the specials board. It was a little quiet but we were pretty early for dining on a cold winter's evening. Staff very attentive and helpful and helped make it a very enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend especially if you are a seafood and sushi lover.
Innovative and imaginative menu - Asian fusion. Each dish was beautifully prepared and presented. Weļl definitely return again.
Went here for a meal after a show at The Roundhouse. The staff were delightful and so helpful. The food was delicious and the options were fantastic. Portions are very generous and the ingredients are fresh and well thought out.
Went with a veggie friend and they were willing to convert any of the meat options to vegetarian. The day's special was Mongolian lamb which I had and it was excellent. They also did a great 'Asian' mulled wine. The service was a little too quick. I think they were trying to be helpful but ended up making us feel rushed as empty plates would be whipped off just as the last morsel had left the plate. Good value too with the toptable offer.
I took a friend out and wanted to try oka since it opened. It was great we were welcomed well and the food was amazing I will defiantly be going back as there were many things on the menu I would like to try. The restaurant decor is lovely making you feel really relaxed. Would def recommend if your looking for somewhere lovely to go.
I went to oka shortly after it opened and thought the food was generous and well made, which made me go back. But second time round the food felt greasy, the salad was stingy and not worth the money I paid. Need to work harder if they're going to keep their clientele as I sadly won't be rushing back and wouldn't recommend it to many of my local living friends. Sorry oka but please up your game as there is a place for a
Japanese restaurant in primrose hill.
