Nicollet Island Inn
Nic's bar, just off the main dining room, is a casual, old-world tavern and the patio offers stunning views of the Minneapolis skyline. The Inn is a convenient, comfortable destination for breakfast or lunch meetings while the 3 or 5-course Sunday Brunch is the perfect weekend indulgence.

Normally we have a wonderful time at Nicollet Island Inn. This particular night events were beyond the Inn's control but it made the experience less than desire. One of the kitchen staff had a medical emergency and was taken away in an ambulance but that dramatically slowed food preparation which cut into ambiance and the flow of the meal. Service was excellent even though she was the only server on that night; she explained what was happening comped an extra glass of wine. One of the advantages of NII is the quiet ambiance in the dining room; this night we had an oaf sitting at the table next to ours speaking in his "across the room voice" about all things in his life and talked non-stop for 1.5 hours. Capped off his evening by showing his tablemates a video of his grandchildren yelling on his phone and playing it at the loudest possible volume. I mean really. I would recommend the Inn but this night fell way short of our expectations.
Great meal -- but no 6 foot distance to next table
This restaurant is a true gem, wonderful location and the food is wonderful. We had the pasta special with wine pairings and we loved everything about it - salad, pasta and dessert were amazing and the atmosphere is great. Not the first time we have eaten there - food from the regular menu is always fantastic as well.
Excellent location with a great atmosphere that was in a beautiful setting. The food was excellent and the serving staff was attentive but not intrusive. Just exactly what we like on a special occasion. Really like this restaurant a great deal. That's why we have gone there many times over the years.
The mussels were fresh and fabulous; the service was attentive but not intrusive; the noise level was low and ambience was warm and elegant. We really enjoyed our special anniversary dinner!
Loved it. They have their own parking lot. Food very well done, high quality, great menu. The in is a blast from the early 1900's, beautiful. Service phenomenal. Bartenders very talented, had cocktails after and found a few new drinks to add to the favorites list.
Food was tasty but risotto was soupy/watery and other dish mashed potatoes were cold.
Service and ambience top notch, but my crusted walleye was cold and tasteless, like it had been sitting in warming bin for hours. My salad overdressed and soggy. Our server was excellent, though, and the ambience can't be beat.
Just an average dining experience. Ambience was extremely cool. Very classic type environment with great views.
Service was just ok. Long waits on drinks and no check ins during the meal.
Burger was average, wagyu was over cooked at a medium request. Apple salad was good. Spring veggie gnocchi was awesome.
Overall give it a 6 out of 10. For the price it didn’t exceed my expectation.
Nicollet Island Inn serves up a great menu, good service and nice views of the riverfront.
Service is always superior. Atmosphere and surroundings beautiful!
Staff was pleasant and efficient. food was great and the service was excellent.
My husband and I went there for Valentines dinner. This is our first dinner at the Nicollet Island Inn so we were trying it out and hoping it would be special. What we were surprised by was how outdated and boring the venue was there. It felt very dated an old school with waitstaff that felt very militant and structured versus accommodating and pleasant. We both have a dairy allergy and asked for pasta to go along with our fish and steak to make it more filling as the only option was mashed potatoes with cream. The waiter told us that the chef was not willing to do that which was a big indicator that this was not a “real” restaurant.. The menu is limited to just the Valentines special so we had no other option. I should’ve done more research on this restaurant before we booked it and was disappointed that our evening basically sucked. We were seated next to a nice couple but pretty much heard their entire conversation as it was just two of us in a tight area. That was our second seat after we moved from one that was by the window where we were basically in the hallway. There were very nice seats that I could see other couples enjoying but we did not get one. We waited forever to get drinks and just were overall disappointed with our meal. We won’t be returning.
Lovely ambience and great service for our Valentines date.
The steak was the worst, very tough and full of fat and gristle. The pasta was ok but nothing I’d order again. For the $69 price not a good value. I love the place but maybe going on a busy night with a set menu was not a good choice.
Enjoyed the special Valentine's Day Dinner with wine pairings.
Food was well prepared. Portion sizes on some courses were small. This was a five course Valentines Day menu. I would recommend they work on the wine pairings. Average wines at best. Cost overall was high but service was excellent. Liz took great care of us.
Server was outstanding
Superb service (always is!), and the Cobb salad and special sandwich were delicious. My favorite place!
Very nice but spendy place for dinner. I had scallops for $36...there were only 3 on my plate! Tasty? Yes. But $10 a piece? We also paid $10 for a sharable plate of asparagus. 8 pieces. Tasty? Yes. But close to $1 per piece of asparagus? My husband had steak, which was good and a bit more filling.
Marriage Anniversary, and was not mentioned by host or staff.
After years of birthdays, and special occasions spent at the Inn I was very disappointed.
It was wonderful, as usual.
Wonderful meals and professional service. Good value and pleasant atmosphere plus a parking lot right next door - in the downtown!
Beautiful location, delicious food, friendly service and we didn't have to shout at each other! Loved everything!
lived here for 6 years now and heard about this place. finally made it happen! what a perfect old school date night!!! couldn’t have asked for anything more out of the experience. would love to stay there for a staycation!! the bread, the curry mussels, the strip, the cocktails, the creme brule, the bourbon selection...all world class!!!!
My partner and I have been to Nicollet Island Inn many times in the past, but this was our first time in several years (since having kiddos). This was the best date night experience we have had in a long time!! The service and staff were excellent overall, including the manager stopping by to check in on us periodically. Although we like to try new places, this is a classic dinner spot that will never fail to impress! We are definitely not going to wait several years to go again!!!
Great food. Great service. Very nice ambiance. Would definitely go back.
Easy reservation to get.. Good table and pleasant evening with family
Love, love, love this place. Fabulous food, great service, one-of-a-kind location!
Such a lovely place! We were warmly greeted. I had requested a quiet booth as my friend is very hard of hearing, and we were sat at a wonderful spot! We asked for suggestions from our server on a couple of dinner choices, and she was quick with options. We chose the burrata pear salad and the Wagyu steak - both were fantastic! Finished it off with Sebastian Joe's ice cream and espresso. Wonderful dining experience all around!
Food was great, ambiance was super bartender
was friendly fun knowledgeable.
The parking lot was dangerously unplowed, particularly for those with limited mobility. There was a significant wait to be seated, while the telephone rang and rang and rang. The food was tasty, but the logistics need work.
Service and food were excellent! We will continue to come in once a year for special occasions!
We will be back! Excellent!!! We’ve told all our friends about the amazing dining experience and we will be back!!!
The Lobster Week event was not pleasant. They give you no tool to crack your Lobster so I cut my finger open while eating my Lobster. Did not make for a romantic enjoyable evening out.
Fantastic food and service!! Always an excellent experience!
We went for a lobster dinner with wine pairings... bisque, pot pie, lobster and dessert. The bisque was only fair, no meat. The pot pie, was as if just added peas to the bisque and a very small puff pastry (mine tasted burnt). I was surprised the lobster was only a 1/2 lobster and seemed under cooked, which I have never seen before. The dessert was a chocolate brownie and chocolate ice cream, it was just too much chocolate for us. I would say the best part of dinner was the wine pairings. I thought they did a good job with the wine selection.
