I have been there several times and I always stick with the shrimp and grits because it is my favorite and has always been great. This time two of us got the shrimp and grits and it was served luke warm at best. The bacon wrapped shrimp was dry and overcooked. My wife had the filet which she ordered medium rare and it was burnt on the outside. My friends wife had the BBQ shrimp and they were overcooked. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed in the food, which was a big surprise, since it had been great before. I was also embarrassed because I have talked this place up to my friends and family and when I took some friends their experience was not up to the expected standards. The service was great as usual and the atmosphere was great as usual. I would recommend based off my past experiences alone. I am hoping it was an off night but for how much we spent I don't like paying for off nights.
Our first time experience was great. Food was excellent and our server Shea was fantastic. She was engaging, courteous and professional. We live in NOLA for four years and have been back many times staying across the street at the Hotel Monteleone each time, but never ate at Mr. B's. Wish we had done so sooner.
We love this place!
Everything was AMAZING. The food was so so great, and food arrived promptly. We tried the Crab Cake (PLEASE GET IT), Seafood Gumbo (best I ever had), the Truffle Steak (was undersalted and so-so), and the bread pudding (also the best bread pudding I've ever had).
Also, note this restaurant is off right in the heart of the French Quarter so make sure you Uber!
We could not have asked for a better service staff than Ken, Margaret and Ashley. We had an amazing dinner! From the appetizer of BBQ shrimp, to each of our entrees (red fish of the day, shrimp and grits and the best pork chop), to the desserts (cream puff, chocolate molten cake and pecan pie). We enjoyed every bite.
We all have the signature barbecued shrimp… It was fantastic!
The food and service were excellent! Our family ate scallops, wedge salad, and the wood fire grilled redfish. Excellent dishes...next time I will ask that the salt be left off the side of arugula that came with the scallops.
Mr. B's is one of the top 5 in New Orleans and top 10 in America. Every visit we are dazzled by their excellence. Great food and great people make it the winner it is.
Great food and service. Thanks to Cali and her partner (sorry I forgot her name but she is wonderful)
Great cocktail for girls.
I would come again if I come to visit NOLA next time
25th Wedding Anniversary
We visit New Orleans about every three years and a visit to Mr. B's is always a must. Once again, we had excellent service, delicious food, great drinks and a magnificent dining experience. Everyone had a different dish and we all were very happy with our choice. I used Open Table to make my reservation from Albuquerque, New Mexico and when we arrived our reservation was ready - no waiting. Every time we have visited Mr. B's ( I think this is our fourth visit!) we really enjoy it. thanks so much to the management and staff.
A must go when we are in town!!
I visited Mr. B's on Sunday March 8 while in New Orleans for a weekend getaway. The food was absolutely fantastic. I ordered the seasonal Braised Short ribs and they were delicious, very rich and tender. My friend ordered the filter and it was also very good! I will definitely be back next time I come to New Orleans!
The food, service and ambiance were all top shelf. It is a very nice restaurant.
Great food. Really enjoyed the seafood gumbo.
We visit New Orleans every year and our first dining stop is Mister B's., a great traditional New Orleans eatery.
This was the first time we visited for Sunday brunch and actually did not even realize it was Sunday. The brunch menu is, of course, a tad different from their regular lunch menu and we were sort of disappointed that we were not going to be ordering from the regular lunch menu. Not a big deal at all, as they still had my favorite dish, the famous BBQ Shrimp, so it all worked out.
We were seated promptly and the service was very attentive, at least at first. There were three different waiters handling out table, so there was some overlap in service. Toward the end of the meal, we hardly saw any of our waiters and waited a tad long for our check.
Also, the shrimp were just a bit overcooked and tough, a first for me. Tasty, sure, but just a wee bit overcooked. I know it was Sunday brunch and the kitchen was hustling, but....
Regardless, I ALWAYS recommend Mister B's to EVERYONE who is going to New Orleans and will continue to do so.
Mr. B’s has been a favorite of ours for many years. The food and service are great. On this visit we were there for the Sunday jazz brunch, and the music was fun. We parked in the adjacent garage on Iberville, slipped in the back door at Mr. B’s from the garage, had brunch, and Mr. B’s validated our parking ticket which saved us some money. Then we walked to the Saenger Theatre and saw a play. A great afternoon.
We had a lovely celebration dinner at Mr B’s. The food was exceptional and the atmosphere exactly what we had hoped.
I ordered the signature dish and it was COLD. Pitiful - this is a very expensive place and the food should not be served cold. I ordered bread pudding for dessert and it to was pitiful— a slab of dry cold white bread with not flavoring. This is the easiest dessert to make and they screwed it up. Skip this place and go somewhere else or go here if you like paying $250 for bad food.
Great place to meet but service was bad and back room too noisy
For NOLA, this was an OK food experience...
I used to live in New Orleans years ago. I had the opportunity to go back and visit with friends. I had mentioned the wonderful food, service and ambiance I always got at Mr. B's.
Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. Bad service. Not sure if the restaurant was understaffed, or what. Two of us order the Barbecue shrimp. We wanted more bread to go with our meals to enjoy the barbecue sauce. However, by the time the bread came, we were done. We asked for a dessert menu. That also took some time. To the point that we had to go after waiting a long time.
Great Food. Excellent service. Easy walk from our hotel. Would definitely come back!
Food was amazing with great service as well! Also highly recommend the bread pudding
We had not been to Mr. B’s Bistro in a long time but friends told us how much they had enjoyed it recently. It is located on Royal Street a block into the French Quarter from Canal, and the tourist crowds, noise, and general dinginess of the Quarter were very much in evidence. The restaurant is nice, but the attention to details is missing. My menu had gotten wet and was wrinkled, and there is paper on the tables over the cloth. The menu is limited and our fish dishes, redfish for me and black grouper for my wife, were lackluster and under seasoned. Our waiter was nice but inattentive. The wine list is very short and exclusively mundane American. I could go on, but with no improvement. I give it a good rating with some hesitation, and we won’t be going back.
This was our second time. Before outstanding, even bought the cookbook. however this time my shrimp dish was way over cooked which I mentioned to our waiter and he didn’t really seem to care. there were four of us and the others thoroughly enjoyed their dishes and said they were delicious. It’s just one of those whoops. This will not stop us from returning on our next trip to NOLA.
By the way, arrived early and sat at the bar, mixologist was great.
First of all the service and food is delightful. Our waiter and table attendant was spectacular. One note: the hostess was unpleasant and very cold. She needs to be more welcoming and warm. Other than that I’m a loyal customer that will continue to come to your restaurant.
Normally, I am not one who enjoys getting down and dirty while I eat. But those shrimp!! Best meal in town.
Was fantastic!! Would come back again and again!!!!!
The tables were full. We had three servers each asking the same things. It seemed that they wanted to hurry you to turn more tables for the evening. The food prices rise each time we go there. The food is glorious, staff friendly, but I felt like we were being processed not served. For these prices, you should not be rushed.
Always a great place to eat, wonderful ambiance
We arrived a little early for our 7:00 reservation and were seated almost immediately. Our waitress (Clarencia) got us started with drinks and took our order in a timely fashion. Then over the course of the next hour came back three times to tell us our food would be up shortly. The second time she also reconfirmed what each of us had ordered and offered an appetizer while we waited. Thinking the food would be up shortly we declined. The third time she explained that our order had gone in just before a big party and that their food was pushed ahead of ours. But that again it would be up shortly. This time she offered a free desert for our troubles which we again declined, because who knows how long that might have take. Our food finally arrived about 8:30 and fortunately was delicious. We asked to speak to a manager about our troubles and were told that he had authorizes the removal of 1 drink from our bill. Definitely a disappointing experience for what should have been a fantastic dinner on our vacation.
We had a special request to assist us in surprising our lifetime friends. The team at Mr. B's executed the plan better than we ever could have dreamed. Our entire dining experience was fabulous!
Food wasn’t as good as I’d expected. Fish was very fishy. I’ve always heard great things about Mr. B’s but this was my second time and I’m still not overly impressed.
