Fantastic as always. Thank you!!
We love Matteo’s, but over the last two years sadly we feel the quality of the food has gone down. While we always go back because we hope for a great experience. Last night we had a great server.
What this restaurant thinks it is and what it actually is are world’s apart. This is a local trattoria masquerading as fine dining, with prices that are not in line with the quality of food and service that was a mess at best and offensively insulting and over-familiar at worst. Our waiter had a habit of talking to adult patrons like children - over cheery, over explaining, using five words for every one actually needed and with all of his obsequious officiousness (and that’s a trick in itself), the runners auction off the food with a “who gets the” eggplant like a two bit diner waitress. Two main courses were cold upon arrival and were only ok when they finally came back, but the real problem was the server, who put the final nail in the coffin when he called my 84 year old father by the first name he read off his credit card. I could just barely tolerate the word salad that was his “does anybody crave a sweet tooth” (what does that even mean) and when he asked if we craved a cocktail, I thought we’d only answer yes in the final days before rehab, but the whole effect was a waiter who had never actually experienced fine dining service as a patron and thought that enthusiasm and good service are the same thing. The sad part is that the owner asked me about how the dinner was, and when I began to say it was a mixed experience, he put up a finger to interrupt me and left to take care of some need or other in the back of house. He was completely uninterested in the answer, and that about sums up the experience. I realize there aren’t a lot of fine dining choices in the area, but this place sure isn’t helping.
Wonderful food and service ... every time we have
Dined there. Perf ct for all occasions.
Excellent all around, a favorite restaurant. Italian and catch of day excellent, along with extensive wine list...service excellent...
We had a Wonderful dinner.
Tommie our server was great.
Loved the gnocchi and bread..
Everything about this place is awesome! Friendly servers, great food, fantastic wine selection.
Lovely outside patio and ambiance. Food was very good, two of us split appetizers then a salad with grilled mahi mahi - which was plenty. Substantial wine list as well. It's Maui, so dining is pricey. Two glasses of wine, two appetizers and one salad entree -- the bill was $160.
Matteo’s is a wonderful little restaurant. The Italian food is terrific and the price is fair (given you are in Maui!)
I would recommend Matteo’s for anyone looking for a nice Italian restaurant in Maui.
It was a great place to enjoy a meal with my family while we were on our vacation. We ate at many of the "touted" restaurants and Matteo's was all of our favorites. I loved the wine list and the food was great with homemade pastas. Perfect choices for each of us.
I loved the atmosphere that was a bit loud to talk across a longer table but certainly festive.
Food outstanding and our waiter Felipe was friendly, helpful, attentive. Entire staff great. Ownership stopped by to assure all well. Felt like home
WARNING: There is a terrible waiter here that made us wait 20 minutes to put in drinks, another 15 to even give us bread (barely any bread) and then we were treated to tremendously expensive mediocre food 20 more minutes later. The plates were small and tasted a lot like Olive Garden (the fast food of Italian). We would not eat here again. Even though we were given free drinks and desserts for our bad service, we would not recommend this restaurant because it is terribly overpriced for what you get. The free desserts were also not tasty, the canolis were drowning in orange flavor. If you are looking for good food try Ko by Fairmount, the food there is outstanding.
Food was excellent but waiter appeared to have way too many tables or wasn’t good about checking back. I’d go back but sit at the bar.
I love the creative menu and will be back to try more of the dishes. This is a great spot to dine with friends but is a little too noisy for a date.
Great time- great staff- everyone working together- even the manger stopped by the table and Matteo himself was in the kitchen that night! Everything was perfect
We sat at back corner table and the wait staff used the door in the corner to go in and out
There was only 18” between tables and they used it like a freeway
Didn’t help a kid was rollerblading thru the outdoor seating
Management of this place has gone down hill
Loved the ‘by the glass’ wine at the bar. Perfect place to wait for your table.
Service was fantastic. Salad was HUGE! Two of us could barely finish it but it was delicious. Crab ravioli was unfortunately quite fishy which put a damper on an otherwise really good meal. Lasagna was one of the best I’ve ever had.
We really enjoyed Matteo’s. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We’d definitely recommend it.
After a disappointing third visit to Matteo's, my husband and I decided we'd not be returning. Both the food quality and the level of service, in our experience, are just too inconsistent. In particular, the wait staff seems inadequately trained. The noise level in the dining room is high, and the air-conditioning is set at an uncomfortably low temperature. All in all, not an enjoyable dining experience.
We always enjoy dining at Matteo’s. The service is always excellent food fabulous and atmosphere pleasant.
The beet salad was delicious, but I felt that the ciaopino was overpriced.
breath of fresh air on the island, fantastic service, wonderful food, highly recommend.
we did Spago, Ferraros, DUO, monkeypod. this was top two meals.
I clicked authentic because this place is not owned by some American corporation pretending to be Italian. The owner and head chef, trained in Italy, uses the SAME recipes as his mother uses in her famous restaurant in Italy. It doesn't get more authentic than that.
In a very noisy room, we enjoyed very delicious, creative food offerings. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The grilled vegetable appetizer was good and very nicely presented. The chioppino special was very tasty. It contained a lot of potato pieces amid the protein and vegetable ingredients. Our shared salad had excellent dressing, on the fruity side. Dessert canolis were sweet; more ricotta in the mixture would have been better.
Best place to eat in south Maui! Doesn’t have the million dollar views of the oceanfront resorts, but more than makes up for it with the quality of food, and service. Highly recommended! Amazing way to spend last night on Maui!
One of the best in Wailea. Been many times and always great.
Fantastic food in wonderful environment. We are from Chicago. We eat at some of the most famous Resturants in Chicago. The appetizer tagliatelle dish was served on a wooden platter that reminded us of an appetizer we ate when dining at 3 Michelin star Grace in Chicago. Fine Italian dining in a osteria (non pretentious ) atmosphere. Highest possible review. Ps most extensive wine choices by the glass around. Owner/chef in the kitchen most nights
My husband and I enjoyed our dinner st Matteo’s. The food was amazing. Our waiter, Michael, was fun and attentive. We will most definitely return. By the way, the butternut squash ravioli is over the moon fabulous.
There were 3 of us for dinner. We ordered and enjoyed the bruschetta appetizer very much. I ordered the fruitti de mare which was very good. All enjoyed their dinner. The cocktails were a little disappointing.
Great experience at Matteo’s for an early dinner but the noise of the door slamming every time someone entered or exited the restaurant gave me a headache.
Service is amazing! Everyone was so attentive and so nice and so thoughtful. The food was equally amazing, filling and so delicious.
Loved this place, will definitely return. Very fun, enjoyed the patio dining my experience, our waiter was very knowledgeable, and attentive
The food and service was wonderful. The only disappointment was we made a reservation ahead of time and were looking forward to a romantic dinner. We asked for a table outside and were seated at the smallest and worst table outside. It was offensive. We asked for another table and at first were not well received but another employee stepped in and seated us inside, again at a very small table. The servers were excellent as were our dinners and the wine. We had a very nice evening in spite of our table.
Our favorite server Russell was training Tommy-it’s no wonder: Russell is the best server on Maui! Tommy was a Star & the food was exceptional - always freash & tasty! We love it here!
Excellent food delicious
We had the best waiter , we called him "T". We will request him next time!! Attentive, great suggestions made the experience even better! Best food❤️
Awesome service and food quality. Awesome location off the Wailea beaten path!
EXCELLENT FOOD & WONDERFUL SERVICE.
Michael was an excellent server(and of course, the support staff). Very affable and knowledgeable about the food and drink items. The food was fabulous and filling. As an "amateur" home chef, I will be more critical of some restaurants but compliments to Matteo's chef. I am impressed with the wine list especially because I am a collector of primarily Napa & Sonoma wines, and have over 300 bottles in my own wine cellar.
Terrific food and very friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Matteo’s was suggested by a friend. Really glad we went. They have very attentive staff, and the food was very good! I would suggest (and already have) to anyone looking for a nice dinner location near Wailea.
