Overall, the restaurant carries a great value for those who are seeking to celebrate special occasions. Service was outstanding and the atmosphere of the restaurant was good for dining. Most food, however, even the amuse-bouche had very strong taste: either salty or very sweet. I personally would have had a better experience if the food were given lighter seasoning.

The food and service is always VERY good however, the desserts miss the mark BIG TIME in comparison. We have been 2x in the past month and tried 3 different desserts. None of them are worth talking about which is sad because the rest of the food IS being talked about. I hope they will step up the desserts to match the quality of their appetizers and entrees. :) Otherwise, I would rank this as one of the best food restaurants in town.

As usual the food was creative and outstanding. I brought guests who are world travelers and foodies. They both were impressed with everything they ordered and the beautiful presentation. Every course was prepared to perfection.

We have never been disappointed at the Market in terms of food and service. Creative cuisine, quality ingredients and flavorful dishes. Service has been outstanding - attentive, yet not overbearing. Love the small menu, where everything tastes great. You can't go wrong. My only gripe is that the wine options are at the high end, which becomes expensive if your group is not into wines, but simply wants a reasonable table wine. I love great wines, but I was with people who are discriminating foodies, while not into wines. At the end, you question the overall value. Hence, four stars overall, not five stars. Will still recommend the restaurant.

Market always delivers on the highest quality, and flavor, of food. We have never been disappointed with anything we have ordered. As my husband once said, "Throw a dart at the menu - everything is delicious!" Service is always attentive but not rushed. I wish I could say more about the bar and cocktails, but, we only drink wine. As far as vegetarian and paleo friendly, there is always a pasta and seafood options. Market is, without a doubt, the best restaurant in San Diego County.

Market is always a wonderful meal and experience. Service is great & attentive, food is delicious. It was restaurant week during this visit which is not my favorite time to visit restaurants because it tends to be a limited menu but Market did a lovely job with their menu and we had a great visit. Can't wait to go back.

This is a place that you want to get dressed up for. Unlike many restaurants where people go to be seen, the quality of the food is superb and the service gracious. We were there on a Sunday for dinner and it was fairly quiet but it can get boisterous at the bar. The crowd are foodies, socialites, and people celebrating special occasions. Definitely a great anniversary meal restaurant.

5th year in a row I have been there for restaurant week and as always the service was spot on and the food was excellent. There are some restaurants that take restaurant week off (aka they don't put their best foot forward for a prix fixe menu) but Market has never taken it off. Highly recommend!!

This restaurant is the best in San Diego. There is never a bad dish. Presentations perfect. Service attentive. A real gem. We were disappointed that restaurant week menus were in use, but ended up with wonderful selections and top quality and normal size portions. Probably best Restaurant week Menu in San Diego.

This restaurant is a small gem, they anticipate every detail since you get there. The bar is great for a couple of cocktails, the cuisine is impecable i’ve been in some of the best restaurants in the world and I can tell you the cuisine here is amongst top. It’s true, honest and humble, it’s not to impress like many other high end restaurants but more of a reflection of the passion of the chef. Wine list is very approachable with exceptional great wines that are not overrated or overpriced. Sommalier made a great suggestion.
Can’t wait to go back
Dress is semi formal perfect for a romantic diner or special occasion.

Despite astronomical prices, the restaurant is inflexible. Sushi is only served on one side, and the rest of the menu on the other side. I brought in a champagne bottle and gave it to the hostess; when the waiter came for our drinks order, he knew nothing about it and suggested I should not have given it to the hostess, and lugged it around with me, waiting for our table to be ready. The food was good, but anything extra was added as a cost, without disclosure -- oh, you want to try that? Sure, I'll bring some out. And then there was a $16 charge for the trial dish that was offered. The waiter also spoke for much too long about the specials, going on and on about seasonal cuisine, and the chef's greatness. We were there for a business dinner, and needed to discuss important things besides how great of a dining choice we had made. Because of the expense, the inflexibility, the chattering waiter, and the wine mishap were disappointing, though the food was good and my clients impressed.

Our expectations were quite high due to our friends recommendations and price level. The waiting space in front of the host desk is cramped. Despite a reservation and quite empty restaurant we were asked to wait about 5-7 minutes to be seated. We were forced to move all the time around as waiters and guests were trying to pass us constantly in this in this narrow space. The restaurant's environment is quite sterile and boring, reminds me a hotel and suits may be for a business meeting. The service was great, an experienced waiter with great attention and knowledge. The menu is a mixture of classic and old-fashion. In my opinion the restaurant tries play safe and satisfy older part of customers (I am not young). Dish presentations were extremely nice. The chef's special gift - a small bite with a shrimp and veggies was nice, has excellent start on tongue, but later just killed by overwhelmed spice. My wife's albacore and shrimp appetizer followed the same trend, excellent presentation, but extremely over spiced with chili not allowing to enjoy the flavor of raw seafood. All this without even a minor note to spiciness in the menu description. My blue fin main course had a skillfully prepared fish that just melted in my mouth. Unfortunately the crust was just over salted.
Probably the restaurant is not for us and is far from what I could call a French style fine dining or fusion cuisine. Overall we left quite disappointed.
BTW: The great wine list.
