What Insiders Are Saying
Maple & Ash sits in the middle of the Chicago steakhouse Venn diagram. It’s both new-school and old.
They set the standard for food and service. I have had the pleasure of eating at Maple & Ash twice. I have been to resultants all over the country and of course throughout Chicago. This is one of my favs. Creative quality food and unmatched service. Pricy, but worth the cost. If you are looking to impress a loved one or date, this is THE place. Enjoy!!
Crazy good! And, our waiter, Bart was amazing. Thank you for a great meal and the best service we’ve had in a long time!
This was our third trip to Maple & Ash. This restaurant is truly outstanding on nearly everything. It's a beautiful space. The food delicious and service friendly & professional. For apps we shared the fresh king crab, tuna tartare and Caesar salad. All were excellent. The bone in NY Strip and bone in filet were both perfectly cooked. I had the halibut, which was my only slight disappointment. It was delicious and perfectly prepared, but the portion size was very small. My guess is that is was not more than 4 ounces, possibly less. For the price they charge, a 6-8 oz piece would have been more appropriate. Our side dishes were also delicious, as well as dessert.
Our server, Jasper, deserves special recognition. He was personable, friendly, funny and spot on with great suggestions and we had everything we needed without having to ask for a thing. I will definitely ask for him the next time we return.
Exacting food and service
Great experience, great food, excellent service! Came for a birthday, was able to enjoy an exquisite meal with close ones. $$, would recommend highly 5/5.
Enjoyed a special celebratory dinner. Food and service were outstanding. Atmosphere very sophisticated.
We were in town for the Marathon and made this dinner a special treat for our runner. Russell did an amazing job explaining the menu and making suggestions for us. This place is great for a date/special occasion.
Exceptional service. Our server Derrick was top notch and didn't miss a beat!
Amazing over all experience.
although, they need to better advertise how the brunch is set up.
I didn't realize it was a buffet with one flat price. It was still good but I wasn't aware that's what I was walking into.
amazing dinner for a friends birthday from out of town celebrated this past Saturday 10/6/18. Mason our server took extra good care of us and made sure it was memorable. Would highly recommend the Ribeye as well as the Yukon Gratin Potatoes.
Took my fiancé there for her birthday and before the Fleetwood Mac concert. Best meal we ever had!
Good food, big plates and perfect wine! Only for sharing, it will be enough for all 😄
Best steak I’ve ever had. The cowgirl ribeye. We had the cutest waitress, Laura, who guided us through the awesome menu. Really cool vibe. Great place for a special occasion.
I came to Maple & Ash to celebrate my boyfriend's 31st birthday. I knew we wanted to do the tasting menu so I made a note to the staff prior to our reservation to advise of any allergies / dislikes and the staff took note and made sure our experience was outstanding. We have dined at Maple & Ash before so we knew about the ice cream sundae tower which I mentioned to our server (Jennifer) that we were looking forward to. That was not the dessert for the tasting menu that night, but she pulled some strings and made it happen. Jennifer was also very knowledgeable about the wine list as well. We weren't sure what to expect from the tasting menu and therefore were not sure which bottle of wine to select. We told Jennifer our typical preference and without hesitation she recommended a bottle within our budget and it went great with our entire meal - seafood and all! I cannot say enough good things about the staff, the restaurant decor and ambiance or the food. EXCELLENT job to all. The staff does an excellent job of taking care of all guests and making sure that everyone has an experience they will remember whether you are dining for date night or celebrating an anniversary.
Course One - Vodka shot topped with oyster topped with caviar - Very Interesting and delicious!
Course Two - Seafood Tower - complete with clams, crab, oysters, prawns - The sauce was so good we used the complimentary bread to soak up as much of it as we could!
Course Three - pasta in a butter garlic sauce mixed in with the seafood tower sauce. This could be a meal on its own it is so fantastic!
Course Four - Wedge salad w/ onion ring, bacon and tomatoes. Paired with a lamb chop that literally melted in your mouth!
Course Five - NY Strip/Filet, potatoes, asparagus, scallops, Agnolotti (pillow like pasta) with Mascarpone cheese and mushrooms
Dessert - Ice Cream Sundae Cart - need I say more?
One of the best restaurants in Chicago for sure! The tasting menu is pricier - but worth EVERY penny.
Perfect in every sense.
To be direct and honest, I was wildly disappointed in this dining experience. This was my second visit as our first attempt never happened as our 7:00 reservation evolved into a 45 minute wait with no real sitting time in sight. They tried to remedy their error but then showing up with a cocktail but my 7 month pregnant belly had to decline.
I was super pumped to be here nearly 10 months after our first experience. We still waited about 20 minutes past our reservation time but I think this place is like Disney World where every ride ends in a gift shop wanting your money as the hostess suggested we wait for our table by having a drink at the bar. The place is beautiful and energetic and, with views of the kitchen, you can tell it’s a popular place to be. If you’re going to dine here for business or a romantic date, think otherwise as it is extremely LOUD. We sat next to a round table of about 8 men laughing and watching the Thursday night football game on their phones.
As for the food, the menu reads so well and the items are presented so lovely. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about every item. The disappointing feature of their dishes is that everything is way over spiced. The steaks were beyond over seasoned that you were paying 60 bucks for quality meat but who knew what you were eating as all you could taste of powerful spice combinations. We also had their take on street corn with so much cheese and spices in their you couldn’t actually taste the roasted corn. With so many flavors going on you get a little turned off by your actual meal because you lose sight of what you are actually consuming!
Overall, the place is beautiful and I would have loved to stay for dessert but the place was like a well appointed sports bar with their high ceilings and sounds bouncing all over the place. My husband was very happy to also watch the football game playing on everyone phones at the tables. Go Pats!
This is a one and done for this chi girl.
We celebrated our anniversary at Maple and Ash and had a great time. Our server was spot on with the recommendations and the food was delicious. The free specialty drink and appetizer brought to the table was also a nice touch.
Ambiance was very nice. Sides dishes and appetizers were spectacular. Lobster and steak were not at the level they should have been for the price.
Great meal. Great service.
Food was very good and wait staff very good, as well.
Absolutely fantastic meal, great service, and wonderful atmosphere. Truly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend to anyone. Very vibrant, cool atmosphere, with superb food.
Simply the best. You cannot go wrong dinning here
Best steak in town in a beautiful venue. Service fantastic and friendly. Delicious asparagus and baked potato. Complimentary vodka drink to start was outstanding too! Love this place!
Showed up on time for our reservation. Waited for 50 minutes in the bar, didn't get seated, then decided to leave. Host did not keep us informed of reason for the wait, which beyond 10-15 minutes would have been unreasonable. Lots of great options in Chicago, so I wouldn't be too willing to give this place another try after being treated so poorly.
They were supposed to give us a custom menu with our names and anniversary year but they gave us a generic one after seeing a custom one a table over. And the other table got champagne and we didn’t. Put a damper on the anniversary.
Everything was amazing but the wait for our table. I also noticed others waiting like us for at least 30min over our reservation time. If we make a reservation I expect to not wait over 15min...we waited for 30min. No one gave us a complimentary drink or appetizer..that would have at least made up for the wait. Otherwise everything else was perfect. Great food, our server was very nice and the ambience was beautiful.
This restaurant breaks the mold of your everyday stuffy steakhouse.
And be sure to read the fine print on your menu!
The PROS: We arrived early for our reservation & warmly welcomed and seated. It was my daughter's 16th birthday and the staff went above and beyond with a special, complimentary "mocktail" for her and adult beverage for mom, as well as a specially printed, personalized menu celebrating her birthday. Our waiter, Bobby, was terrific - super personable and attentive. Complimentary small plates arrived until our meal was served.
A few CONS: Restaurant is very, very noisy. My steak was a little underwhelming & portions seemed small to me. Leaving the main dining room through the bar was nearly impossible as there were people packed into a rather small bar area. The crowd was predominantly men and they were not gentlemen in letting us through. A little uncomfortable.
I live in NYC and have been to so many great restaurants. This one was the best I have ever been to. Very expensive but phenomenal and worth it!
Please open up in NYC so I can take clients for dinner.
Excellent experience, meal. Visited while on vacation and will certainly be back when we’re in town.
It was a great experience and the food/service was amazing.
All staff were incredible and just en pointe, to every need, from new silverware at every turn, to the politeness at the different stations. The food was just incredible and every detail was attended to. I will definitely return on my next trip to Chicago.
Excellent overall experience! Great vibe, great service, and great food!
Amazing service, meal and overall experience. Everyone from the gentleman at the outside door greeting us to the last goodbye made for a memorable birthday celebration! Will definitely visit again on our next trip to Chicago.
This was one of the best nights out I have had since I have been in Chicago. The service and food was amazing. My husband and I were celebrating one week of marriage and the "I don't give a F@CK" option was fantastically put together. Cocktails on point. I have recommended this place to at least 10 people since. Thank you for a fantastic evening.
The worst dining experience of my entire eating out life, 48 years. Corked wine, condescending wait staff with their stupid Lafite Rothschild gimmick and the crappiest steak I ever received. No one in our group ate any of the steak beyond a bite. Even the vegetables sucked. That placed was so awful, it must be a reflection of Chicago as a city. There is good news for them though, Chicago will never see me or my friends again.
Great Space and the food was on point! Will definitely be back.
Great venue for a special occasion! Great server thank you!
Alex was our host! He is absolutely amazing! Truly made our experience. He made us feel like a guest in his own home. Great food - unparalleled service & a fun environment! Great job M&A! Side note, your use of branding is top shelf - I saw it in everything you guys do!
