Manhattan of La Jolla
Homemade New York Cheesecake
Shrimp Scampi P.J
A house specialty. Tender shrimp sauted in garlic, lemon and wine.
Fresh eggplant marinated in our tomato sauce.
Great atmosphere! Feels like you're transported back to New York in a old fashion jazz club. All of the staff we interacted with was kind, friendly and helpful.
What we order for our entrees was a little underwhelming. It's a shane because it was the most expensive item on the food menu. Guess we will just have to try a different dish if we go for dinner again.
Otherwise, cool spot for drinks, appetizers and some live music.
Great food a little on the pricey side but worth it! I ordered the lobster with pasta and it was fantastic!
A beautiful experience!
Great Italian food, service and entertainment! Highly recommended!!
My husband and I enjoyed our meals and the service was excellent.
When I made the reservation, I didn't know that there was a piano bar, so I'll ask for a reserved table near the pianist in the future. However, the original booth that we were offered was at the very back right side of the restaurant...dark and dreary... and probably the worst seats in the entire restaurant. We asked to be moved, which was accommodated. Our server was simply outstanding and our tip reflected that service.
Overall, an excellent experience!
It was our Anniversary. My wife had the halibut special and it was perfectly prepared- a thick filet which was moist and flakey with a delicious sauce. My entre was a 3 pasta combination plate which was very tasty, but it came with only 2 pastas! It had to be sent back and when the plate returned, the food was cold-strike two. Don’t expect either of these things to happen in a high end restaurant, so was disappointed. They did provide a free anniversary desert which was nice. The acoustics are very good and we could easily carry on a conversation which is important to us—-so many restaurants are so noisy these days. The service was decent but I found our waiter to be a little abrupt—might have something to do with the staffing level and/or having to wear a mask all shift which I’m sure is very annoying after a while?? All in all we would go back for special occasions because of the ambiance and the quality of the food-not cheap but worth it.
The food was amazing and our waiter and the rest of the staff was tremendous.
Our go to when we are in San Diego. So happy to find they were open. They did an incredible job making the restaurant feel "normal." Dividers between the booths were hardly noticeable. Live music, same great menu, great staff, great food and cocktails.
Can't wait to go back. Thank you, Manhattan!
We love this place – comfortable dining room, with all the current CoVid precautions observed. The scallops were a favorite of my wife, I had the crusted Halibut special. I definitely would return to try more dishes. Service was warm and friendly.
great atmosphere, menu and staff old style Italian steak house.
Our service was fantastic! Unfortunately, I don’t recommend the food for the price. We got lobster ravioli as an appetizer and the pasta was undercooked.
We ordered both of our steak rare and my husband’s came out nearly well-done and mine was more on the medium side.
My husband also ordered the twin filets that were supposed to be topped with crab, but there wasn’t any to be found.
The outside of my steak was so charred it was unpleasant to eat, so I had to cut off all of the ends before eating it.
We aren’t the type of customers to send food back, especially since we had waited so long for our plates to come out, so we just ate it and enjoyed to ambience, music, and each other’s company.
Our server was awesome and very attentive, though!
Very nice place and great service. We keep going back.
Great food, service and ambiance
Reliably excellent Italian restaurant and bar. Have been going there for many years.
Reserve in the brick room away from the bar area. Caeser table side is great. That is when the distancing is over.
Went to Manhattans for an anniversary and had an amazing experience. We loved the live music and our waiter was so friendly and helpful. The food and cocktails were perfect and we will definitely be back.
Stefano was great and would love to have him as a waiter when we come in
I always have dinner at Manhattan whenever I’m in La Jolla. Brian and Nancy are the nicest people and the staff and entertainment are great. The food is very good and the place has an overall cool vibe.
all veal dishes....all quite good and Manhattan is known for its veal...very NYC. Handled the six feet distancing, etc well.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in La Jolla!
If you are in town, you must go to this place.
Everything you order will be amazing.
Doing a good job under pandemic conditions Great food and entertainment was excellent.
We went for our anniversary as we have for several years. Everything about this place is top notch. The servers are present but not intrusive. Comfortable seating and generally quiet ambiance. We shared the Manhattan trio as an appetizer. All 3 were elegant. Shrimp scampi, lobster ravioli and the cannelloni. My wife had the lobster Manhattan. A really nice dish with a large lobster tail, pasta in a red sauce with crab meat. I had the veal chop Florentine. I don’t even look at the menu. Their veal chop is just the best. For dessert we shared the tiramisu which was also done very well. Can’t wait to go back!
Very good’ nice surroundigs
Amazing food and drinks! Live music and great service. Perfect night for a celebration!
Service was amazing and it was definitely a great choice to celebrate here.
I like the clubby environment, it’s warm and friendly. We ordered the Caesar Salad and found it completely mediocre. High price for not much taste at the table. Veal Francese was delicious. We made the trip to La Jolla for the piano bar. Definitely not worth the effort. Sorry about that, we would love to find a great piano bar.
We were so disappointed, we always consider a night out at Manhattan of La Jolla to be a "big deal" and something to look forward to when we go. In all of the years that we have been going and enjoying, this was the first time we left quite disappointed. The food was great as always, but the service was so far from what we are used to, imagine paying $150 + for dinner for two and having to get up and go find your waiter on more than one occasion. We could hear the other tables talking about the same issue, and we saw other tables leave as a result. Not what we expected on a Friday night when it was busy - just one waiter assigned to every table in the front of the restaurant - and not one apology or "we appreciate your patience". We hope this was an anomaly and not the new norm for a restaurant with such a great history.
Exquisite as always! Our dinners were wonderful with perfectly prepared steaks, veal chop, and seafood! Best part, the service!!!!
Consistently delicious food in a cozy atmosphere.......the addition of music on the weekends adds to the ambiance!
The fantastic food always keeps me coming back as the service is okay. It has gotten a bit better over the past few months but is still not what it should be for a restaurant of this caliber.
Great food, service, and ambiance.
I really hate to rate this restaurant so low but compared to what we have had there in previous years it wasn’t good!!
The tableside made Caesar salad was great but main course were not HOT and some tasteless! My husbands veal was chewy and my cannelloni was tasteless and meat was chunky?? On my combo plate the lobster ravioli had no taste!! Really sad because we have always enjoyed this restaurant!!
What a great place to eat. We will be back again for dinner there. Service, food and ambiance all wonderful. Our waiter Mandy was great.
Nice ambience to have cocktails and appetizers too - the singers were great but a bit too loud since the restaurant lends itself to something a bit more quiet. Really expensive cocktails - my martini was $17.00 - food is expensive too, but overall good. We all had steaks - some were cooked just right and some too well-done - next time may be I'll try their pastas ...
Always excellent food, wonderful service, and outstanding entertainment!
Amazing food. Amazing service. Amazing atmosphere. We come here every year when we are in San Diego for our annual convention, and we have recommended it to friends that travel here as well.
My husband and had the pleasure of dinning a Manhattan of La Jolla on a recent stay in La Jolla for our 42nd Anniversary. We stayed at the Impress Hotel, and I saw that this restaurant on their website made a reservation and were we ever glad we did.
What a dining experience!! We enjoyed the entire evening from the bottle of wine, appetizer, soup, entrée, and New York Cheese cake!! We highly recommend and will absolutely come back.
Fantastic hidden gem in La Jolla. Delicious Italian fare and the cocktails are a heavy pour!
Best service , amazing food !
