Was there for brunch, had the daily quiche & salad, and it was an example of how a great chef/kitchen can take a simple dish, and make it perfection. BAM!! Everything else was on-point and awesome, too!
My husband and I headed to Mahina & Suns eagerly anticipating the utterly delicious He'e salad and crispy whole fish that we had the last time. Unfortunately, neither were on the menu. However, my husbands he'e beignets were excellent and my ahi tartare was good, but not great. He followed with the generously proportioned shrimp and watercress salad, and I had the amberjack crudo. Both were wonderful. In reality we shared the two so in the end we felt pleasantly full but for many bigger eaters it would not be enough. We looked at the full dinners but they were pretty much what we eat at home, so not as enticing. The dessert meringue was divine and not to be missed. Highly recommend the white Amberinjo wine from Spain which our outstanding waitress Jackie recommended and it was perfect with our meal. We love the setting and the very local, fun vibe. Will definitely return.
This restaurant is really a diamond in the rough, the rough being waikiki. Thank you for coming to the neighborhood that I live and bringing creative ideas, inspirational food, a fantastic ambiance and great service.
Great food and nice staff ... they were just somewhat understaffed and there was a huge party going on so it was really noisy too
Menu items were hit or miss. The ahi tuna main was creative and flavorful while the rigatoni had beef on it that seemed like it was cooked in a crockpot at home. The cocktails were amazing. For the atmosphere of sitting by a hotel pool with families and kids splashing about prices were high. Service was average.
The brunch was great. We had the fried rice and the breakfast special with the fish of the day and everything was very well done. We all thought the eggs were cooked extremely well and they were very flavorful. Must have been those local eggs. The music and entertainment was chill and sounded really good. We will be back again!
Excellent restaurant within the Surfjack Hotel. We had breakfast and suppers there while staying at the Surfjack. Food, service, atmosphere all great. Bartenders put in effort to get our drinks just as we like, and made good suggestions. Live Music was also good while we were there.
MONCHONG (SICKLE POMFRET)
'ulu, green beans, cherry tomatoes and chervil
いつも頼むのは、Ahi Mahina Bowl。ポキ丼ですね。$13。ボリューム少なめかと思いきや、結構満腹感あります。平日なので食後はコーヒーをオーダーしてゆっくり。
We celebrated Mother's Day at Mahina's. Very casual, relaxed atmosphere, pleasant & attentive staff. We had the Opakaka -- my favorite fish. We'll be back!!
BEST experience ever!! The food is outstanding. Couldn’t stop talking about this restaurant! First time & it will NOT be my last!
Ed's commitment to farm to table and really highlighting local produce help to produce some of the most amazing dishes. We had the feast and whether it was the ulu dish or the ferns or the beautiful locally caught fish, everything was perfect as was everything else. The wallpaper is the best touch ever.
Everything was great, we will coming back, not just for our second punch in the card, but to try more food and the atmosphere.
Pleasantly surprised. This place is very casual. More so than we typically go to on vacations. The restaurant is poolside with picnic tables in the front. However, in back there are booths and nicer tables. Once seated, we experienced awesome service. We had the best waitress who made us feel right at home, was able to explain the offerings and preparation in detail, and serve us promptly. The food was excellent! A great place to visit for Hawaiian cuisine and a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Great service, food and ambiance!
The fish was overcooked. The watercress salad was difficult to eat; all stems.
We got the 1/2 chicken and the Opah. Both were outstanding! We also had the banana pudding for dessert which was delicious.
The family feast was fantastic as were the Opah and surprising the pizza too! Highly recommend!
We had breakfast here on our first morning in Oahu. It was exactly what we wanted, the service was great, the coffee was great, and the food was great!
We'll be back.
The avacado tacos are a great idea but lack spice or salt or something to make them flavorful. Monchong was described as a light and flaky white fish. It was a white fish but not light and flaky. Over cooked and in this case way over seasoned. Very salty. Breadfruit that came with it also lacked flavor. Overall food just ok.
Wonderful food - hip restaurant - feels like Palm Springs in Hawaii
Our visit to Surfjack was great! Our server was excellent, she was knowledgeable about the food (he had a lot of foodie questions) and provided the right amount space for our party to chat the night away. Loved the decor and would recommend the Moonfish. Yum!
We had a nice dinner at Mahina and Sons. The Family Feast was very delicious.. The Opakapaka was cooked perfectly. Allison our server was great.
We basically stumbled across this delight of a restaurant. It’s actually not that easy to find, but we were lucky that night! We loved the relaxed vibe, the intelligently and intricately prepared fresh dishes. The opah was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The house salad with various greens was tossed in a delicate, tasty vinegarette. We didn’t just love the complimentary boiled peanuts, but their presentation was nice, and intent was genuine. This place is a great find! It was fun to read, after our visit, that the Obamas ate here too! No surprises, as they have good taste and know what classy is!
Food was good, neat beach vibe to the place, server was okay, considering others brought the food and checked on us.
Got the moonfish. Outstanding. Perfectly prepared and served.
The Opah was the best.
Our food was delicious and inventive. It was a lovely evening and we will definitely go back to experience more of the culinary delights offered.
Yes, it was an experience! Our waitress was so knowledgeable about the menu and helpful. The food was terrific! Highly recommended!
We were sat at table against a railing fronting the hotel pool. Not great ambiance but thankfully no kids were in the pool.
Great setting, with the open plan Restarant abutting the pool and a projection screen onto the side of the building showing a James Bond movie (subtitles only). A one man band was playing catchy and original renditions of 90s RnB.
The food was great (monchong fish), and cocktails well balanced and creative. Great staff and bartender. Highly recommend!
The service was wonderful as the waitress was very attentive!
The food was good, but not great. As with everything in Honolulu, the food is very expensive!
Very quiet, with some live music for part of dinner.
Nice, low key place to dine.
What an awesome surprise! A friend recommended this place and we were blown away by the flavors and how well everything went together. Cocktail of the day was local rum coconut and lime concoction that was refreshingly NOT sweet, with complex flavors. Such a great beverage to relax with while enjoying the great live music.
The flash fried Ehu was delicious, as were the sides, and the dipping sauces for the fish complimented the sides as well. The meringue with tropical fruits was a perfect dessert, as the acid flavors of the fruits and lightness of the meringue were a great, light and refreshing end to the flavorful entree and sides. A really well thought out “family feast”.
Our server was terrific, and if Liz ever recommends something food-related, you’d be a fool not to listen! She has a lot of restaurant and culinary knowledge and was very friendly and very helpful.
Will definitely be back!
Rigatoni had smallest scoop of ragu
The setting is in a retro style boutique hotel and you feel like you are in the 50/60’s in Waikiki. Food and service were outstanding! Handmade cocktails were right on the mark, starters and dinner delicious! So glad we made the trek from The Kahala Hotel (East Honolulu) for the treat of a place! A must do while in Honolulu/Waikiki!!!
The food was superb. The server was bubbly and accommodating. Great happy hour too! Totally going back.
Unique dishes, very flavorful. Excellent service.
The food was combined of Chinese, Korean and Japanese not Hawaiian food. We ordered the food which was pulled on their website. We’re surprised at the check given to us. Too expensive! We can’t recommend here to anyone since a bad cost-performance.
Excellent food and service. Nice setting. We had the Mahina Family Feast, which included a whole lightly fried snapper and wonderful, unique appetizers, sides and dessert. Highly recommend. Everything was fresh and prepared and presented beautifully.
Fun service, very fresh, light tasting food. Unique menu and something for everyone. Ambience a bit lacking tho live music is nice. Overall excellent and we’ll be back.
