Very fair priced and yummy and fun vibe with hang loose wallpaper decor and other beachy hawaiian stuff. Fish was deliah. Ribeye yum too
Celebrated Thanksgiving, food was fantastic, we had the family feast. The fish Opakapaka, was fantastic and the Ulu (breadfruit) were the highlights of the meal. The live entertainment was a ukulele player, which created a wonderful background to our dinner. Mahalo, Mahina and Son's for making a great memory for us.
The hotel is hip and cool and I loved the vibe. I am a visitor to Honolulu and had read an article about the hotel when it first opened. Nice there was live music. The band was good but a little too loud given our close proximity. They were appreciative of our tip. Food selection was limited and off the small menu, we made poor choices apparently. Upon leaving noticed the kitchen is tiny so maybe they should stick to less complicated things-burgers, fries, club sandwiches and hot dogs. Overly dressed salad, our fault for not ordering dressing on the side as we usually do. Chicken Milanese was bland and uninteresting and it was on the dry side. Ahi I asked for cooked through but it was then overcooked., possibly my fault also. Taste was too salty, side dishes were terrible. Drinks were miniscule. Price was relative high given the casualness of the restaurant. I guess I'll stick to the burger and hot dog side of the menu next time. My expectations were possibly too high. The server was extremely nice and attentive and so were the front desk staff at the hotel who did Covid check-in. I may still go back and buy the hotel Tshirt. They looked super cool but the shop was closed at the time we finished dinner. Ah well, we're still in paradise.
great chill vibe with live local music- all of the fish selections were well executed. Love the happy hour that goes until 10pm!
Friendly staff. Great food
One of my favorite spots!
Cute spot! Staff was wonderful. Checked out the Halloween weekend menu.
The food was very good, and the service was excellent. I can easily recommend them as a place to dine
This is such a cute hotel and restaurant. The music was so good, very loud but do you enjoy Hawaiian music and that kind of ambience you’ll love it. The food was standing, the drinks were spectacular, in the service was top notch!
Great ambiance by the pool with fantastic trip
Low key and great find
Everything was delicious! We had cocktails (I recommend Here Comes the Sun), the smoked ahi toast (so, so good), the Monchong, Chicken Milanese (surprisingly large serving!), and desserts.
Overall, this restaurant was horrible. The food and drinks were terrible. We did not end up eating our meals or drinking our drinks. The ambiance was okay. The live music was a nice touch as well as being seated around the pool. Other than that, I would definitely not recommend this restaurant. There are much better restaurant options on the island. Very disappointing.
great service, pupus well priced, serving size appropriate
A very delicious multi-course dinner, attentively served poolside while enjoying some great ukulele music and singing performed by Kelly Boy. We had a wonderful and memorable meal.
Great food, beautiful atmosphere. Menu is well priced!
Excellent service and the food was delicious.
This place is a MUST- even if you’re not staying at the hotel! Happy hour all day everyday but the dinner is where it’s sta the rib-eye melts in your mouth and the banana pudding is life changing- we ate here twice during our short 4 day trip to Oahu! We will be back!
Food is outstanding and exceeded expectations. Live entertainment nightly with fantastic happy hour specials makes for an awesome dining experience. Staying here again at the end of our stay and can't wait to go back!
Everything about this dinner was amazing.
The cocktails were delicious and the food was great!
The Family Feast was the best local meal I’ve had in a long time! So good!
Mahina was absolutely wonderful! The staff was friendly and the food was amazing!! Great introduction to the local food for my first time in Hawaii!
Ambience is decent, service sucks, crazy to get set inside restaurants with tables outside where live music is happening. Food was ok, nothing to write home about.
Food was great, live music was great, and happy hour prices are amazing; But the real MVP was our server, who magically memorized our party of 8's orders all at once without fail, on top of being super attentive. Can't wait to go back!
The food at this restaurant was amazing, everything we tried tasted great. Whoever the chef is, they are doing an amazing job!!!
Unfortunately the service was very disappointing. We went as a family of 4, the kids food came 10 minutes after the adults food. Also the server barely came to our table and we repeatedly had to ask for our server to come to our table.
Intimate setting, wonderful ambience. Would recommend!
We were happy to be back as frequent customers from Maui. Hope you reinstate the frequent diner program that stamps your card. Enjoyed the music entertainment by the family of singers and guitarist/drummer. We had excellent service by Landon, who talked story with us and gave us time to relax between courses. Loved everything. Hawaiian style Boiled peanuts. Soothing therapeutic bowls of Chicken Papaya Soup, tasted homemade. A'u Blue Marlin Crudo. He'e Octopus Salad with potatoes, olives, watercress. Ahi with yellow carrot, cucumber, 12 grain rice. Cornflake Chocolate Ganache Tart with Lilikoi Curd. Mahalo, Landon, for a great evening! We look forward to coming back when on O'ahu.
Great dining experience as always. So happy that dinner is back!
Very good service, the food is good as well!
We chose Mahaina & Sun's because of the many good reviews and authentic Hawaiian menu. My initial impression was not favorable, as the restaurant lacked ambiance, to say the least. Things went downhill quickly as the wine list was tiny, and the few choices there were, poorly chosen. We started with the Ahi Carpaccio and Clams in a broth of fennel, saffron, chili, and vermouth. The ahi carpaccio lacked flavor. The clam broth with savory fennel slices was quite tasty, but the clams were meager and stringy, and had not been properly purged before cooking, therefore gritty. We followed the appetizers with Opah with shaved cucumbers, shallot, sumac, and black olive tapenade. The Opah was perfectly cooked, as were the accompaniments, but the combination of flavors missed the mark. The service was friendly and efficient, but the highlight of the evening was the golden-voiced performer, who played covers on his ukulele. Overall, disappointing. Perhaps we hit an off night.
Our party of three indulged in the Family special dinner which came with several courses and a market priced Red Snapper. The appetizer course was a ceviche that was super fresh and delicious. The, they brought out the vegetables and rice medley in family dishes. They were uniquely prepared and would have made a meal in themselves. The fish followed quickly and it was a delight to all the senses. It was served with three sauces and was perfectly cooked. Finally. The meal ended with the most interesting interpretation of banana pudding I have ever tasted. Even the banana pudding hater at the table couldn’t get enough. The service was as good as the meal. Highly recommended.
I gave the rating I did because of the pandemic quarantine, we were not able to enjoy dining there. My rating is based on our calling the restaurant constantly with no answer and leaving messages not returned. At the very least, a voicemail indicating they will not be opened.
The food was good but not outstanding. Very expensive for the quality.
Great food. Kids found choices as did parents. Kids could roam a bit which was great and made dinner nicer for the adults!
Food was decent but food took 45 min to come out and we didn’t order anything special. Waitress was very nice though and ambiance was lively—they had a DJ when we went. It’s definitely a fun place to have a relaxing meal and we enjoyed our food but not even in the top 5 meals we had during our time in Oahu.
The live music was deafening
Momi waited on us and was fantastic. The ambiance is always nice. What was disappointing was the food. I've dined here for dinner before and our meal was flavorful and delicious. I was disappointed in the quality of the food this time around. The Poi Bowl was very small in portion - compared to the price. And the poi in the Poi Bowl was watered down. The corn risotto wasn't cooked sufficiently. It almost felt "rushed." The opah was fine but there was nothing memorable about the dish. Given the prices, I expect to have a better than average meal. I'm not sure I'll go back.
It was fine, but the food didn’t seam like it was prepared to order and the beignets were under cooked. Staff was very nice but seemed like everyone was being trained
Awesome food and service!!! We will most definitely be going back again!
