Our dinner was amazing and we really loved the updates done, the architecture and the overall vibe. Very fun and a great experience.
We found this restaurant on Open Table and chose it because it was close to our hotel. Food was good, service was great and very energetic.
This is the first time since using Open Table I was not completely happy with the dinner. I had the opah, which was ok. My husband had the rigatoni, which was also ok. It was loud but we expected that from other reviews. Ours server, Mary Anne, was great.
This place used to be fantastic but it's gone a little downhill. Used to love the hehe salad but portion got smaller and flavors not balanced well. Maybe just an off night?
We had a very enjoyable evening here! The food was delicious and our server was attentive and knowledgeable. One of our favourite meals in Honolulu!
No wonder our former President loved dinning here. Possibly the most creative kitchen in Hawaii. Honestly you will never find similar dishes on Oahu. Also the best pickling on Oahu. Coupled with a super attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff you are truly in for a relaxing and stimulating treat.
Mahina & Suns is always on my list when I am in Oahu. Food and drinks are spot on, the opah and mon chong were delish in this recent visit. Having music by #mailesoul made it all the better!
What a lovely surprise - an eclectic restaurant housed on the ground floor of a local hotel. The food was amazing and the service outstanding. Anyone who can make a kale salad absolutely mouth watering is a genius!
Great food and great service. Enjoyed the Baquets in beet sauce and pork pate as starters. Main courses were delicious, but was sad there was no fresh fish that day for the group feast. Always great
Fantastic fresh seafood. Wonderful service in a fun retro-60’s setting
Dined here based on the good reviews and an article we read in a magazine. Crazy ambiance as the restaurant is right next to an indoor swimming pool. Very limited menu. We were two people and we both really didn't enjoy our entrees of opah (moonfish) and monchong (sickle pomfret). The appetizer of sweet land farm chevre beignets was nice but nothing special. Service was just okay too. Very disappointed.
Grilled octopus with ricotta- what a winning combination. Delicious meal and fun, relaxed atmosphere.
Had a business meeting at 11am. Staff was nice to put us in a space where we could have a bit of privacy (corner table) and could hear one another.
We were one of the first people there for lunch so we didnt' have to fight a lunch crowd. It was very pleasant.
Food is very creative and delicious, and the hotel has a cool vibe. Service however was spotty
Great atmosphere, especially if you are seated overlooking the hotel’s pool, taking full advantage of the open-air setting. The restaurant’s sustainably-fished seafood is excellent - we tried both the monchong and opah. The monchong was light, flaky, yet flavorful. The opah was meaty, yet tender with an amazing bacon-infused broth. Oh, I almost forgot the cocktails - excellent. A nice departure from the ubiquitous tiki-style tropical drinks you’ll find at most other area bars, but still masterfully incorporating local fruits and other ingredients. Service was very good. Our waitress, Jacqui, was very friendly and attentive with the two of us despite also serving a very large party next to us.
We made a reservation for my daughters 20th birthday, 3 weeks in advance. The reservation was at 6:30 party of 6. When we arrived, about 6:25 the table wasn’t ready and we had to wait. When we were seated, the table wasn’t in the restaurant, it was in the bar/lounge closer to the pool entrance. Needless to say our table sucked.
The food was REALLY great!
Fried whole fish - delicious!!
Frustrating for the money we spent on the dinner and the table was so bad. That would be the reason I wouldn’t go again.
Love the healthy, market driven food. Our server Maryanne makes the experience even better!!!!!!!
Great food, great service, just right for a good dinner with friends.
Wonderful brunch. Waffle, burrito and Egg Sammie are delicious!
Our friendly server was so welcoming and informative and the tuna and opah were wonderful. The live music was icing on the cake...a jazzy Sinatra and John Legend mix
We had a great night. Amazing food! There was a guy singing and playing guitar. Good service. Not crowded on a Wednesday night.
Dinner was amazing. We started with chèvre beignets for a savory delicious start. We both had the smoked opah chowder which was absolutely delicious. Tender morsels of smoked opah made the soup memorable. I had the Kauai shrimp risotto. The succulent shrimp made the tasty risotto a dish I will go back for. My husband had the catch of the day, fresh Opah with a whole grain mustard topping that I got to try with tender braised local cabbage. Desserts were delicious as well. They have a dark chocolate mochi that’s unreal ono and their butterscotch pudding with a cookie crumble made a perfect ending to our already flawless meal. Heidi was our server and she’s awesome. We will be back!
Amazing food and great service! We also really enjoyed the live music on Sunday.
Such a cool spot - delicious food and cool ambiance! Definitely check this place out!
Everybody in our group of 7 enjoyed their meal which were nicely presented with generous portions. Our food server was friendly and extremely accommodating. The tables are spaced apart enough to allow privacy along with fun people watching. Highly recommended!
The food was impeccable. Nothing Frufy, but an imaginative combination of simple fresh ingredients created tastes that were inspiring.
Our server was so connective and fun.
What a great night.
Another superb experience at Mahina and Sun’s thanks to the wonderful staff, especially our server Alison! The team’s attention to detail and professionalism is top notch; and the quality of ingredients and execution is spectacular. A neighborhood gem indeed!
Looking for seafood and a new dining choice, we found Mahina and Sun's-just up the road from our timeshare and in Waikiki. The menu was outstanding-I had the monchong dish and it was delicous, small baby tomatoes and potatoes, with chinese string beans. My wife tried the pono pork rilettes which she enjoyed immensely. Our server Alison was very friendly and helpful, with a cute smile and an island tan. We will try visiting again this trip or on our Dec trip.
Our family of five ate at Mahina and Sun's on a Sunday night at about 6:15. We enjoyed everything we ordered and appreciated the attention of our server. It was a relaxing ambience and we enjoyed being tucked away near the pool, away from the crowds.
Food was very good. But kind of pricey. What we had was family style dinner with a whole fish.
They charge $37/parsons for little bit of sashimi, rice , Veggies, pickles and peanuts on top of$99.00 fish at MP. Table was by the swimming pool kids jumping around.
The food was great.
Excellent poulet, sashimi avec un concert live
Service was horrible , so we only had an appetizer and a beer, then left...took forever just to get a beer too, very disappointed since we were supposed to eat dinner here that night. Would not recommend: (
Didn’t see our server for a good 20 min. The pizza with “uncured bacon” was all fat. It was gross, i picked it all off bc we never saw said server to tell her. and when she finally returned, she just basically said that’s what it is. Which in the service industry is not the right answer. We dined here a couple days before, gave it 5 Stars. Too bad a poor server can ruin the experience.
Nice cozy place with outstanding food
Mahina & Sun's is our second home. We live on the island and go there once or twice a month. We always take our visiting friends and family there. Great food, service and live music. Perfect every single time ! Highly recommended
Food and service was outstanding. Would definitely go back there again.
Love this restaurant!
This was at least our 25th time dinning here. Every time we come there’s that great greeting. The VIB is awesome. A packed bar scene and great local live music. Families as well as couples are having a great time BUT it’s the food and service that makes this restaurant into our top three on all of the Hawaiian Islands. Photos will follow but the one new dis that deserves rave reviews is their Fresh Kauai Shrimp Risotto that was better then any south of France dish we had since coming back from six weeks in France two weeks ago. The aromas of cooked down shells and the many ingredients that go into a traditional fish stock was very obvious and the ability for the staff to describe each dish as if they cooked it was highly appreciated.
