Left Bank Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is not what it once was . The tomato soup in puff pastry was literally cold, as were the mashed potatoes served with dinner. The decaf coffee tasted like coffee grounds. The waiter was apologetic, but too many things were wrong for it to be an enjoyable meal—especially for what it cost.
Deliciously prepared food & very accommodating. The escargot and lobster bisque was outrageous! The Bouillabaisse de Crustacés au Fenouil was absolutely the best one ever. The special sea bass was too flat, I prefer a think cut bass but the pesto was great. We had a romantic table at the window with a lovely view of Gore Creek! Highly recommended!
The Left Bank is an old-timer by Vail standards located within The Sitzmark Lodge in the heart of the village. A few years back new owners took over the restaurant and literally brightened the interior replacing the old dark wood and heavy furnishings with contemporary open design and enhancing the view of Gore Creek.
My comment is the menu is still in the 1970's with contemporary prices. Yes there is a niche for old-world French i.e. Dover Sole de-boned table side and similar dishes. Yet as a contemporary diner I personally am looking for updated contemporary French. This is a restaurant where the menu can easily be used in Mad Men. Not a bad thing, just be prepared for a more Alain Ducasse experience versus Joel Robuchon.
Of note, chef will prepare based on dietary limitations i.e. gluten, vegan and so forth all coupled with an excellent wine selection. Service on par with urban counterparts yet some missteps i.e. table missing bread plate at one service, waiters and servers not necessarily coordinating and so forth however this is a resort town thus not to be unexpected.
Of note we did order just two cocktails, two soups, two salads and a dessert. Felt the waiter was a bit perturbed that we did not order entrees' yet post late lunch and an early-side reservation the appetite was not there for a late entree.
The restaurant is a great option in Vail where fine dining has truly given way to casual. The Left Bank and La Tour are truly unique options within Vail and perfect for a special occasion, event and so forth.
It has been 20 years since we have been to Vail & dined at Left Bank. We loved the new decor! The escargot was divine as was the seafood bouillabaisse. Yummy chocolate soufflé!!! Our #1 favorite of all the restaurants we dined for the week!
Our first experience should be called Two Banks. We had really excellent food and terrible food. First the good. We ordered the escargot to start. They were very good but just slightly too salty. The Dover Sole was some of the best I have ever had. We also ordered. For the bad the French Onion soup was not very rich. The onions were not carmelized enough and the broth was "thin". For the bouillabaisse, the contents were excellent but the stock was thin and disappointing. The disaster was the duck. It tasted old and over done. It had to be sent back. The service was excellent and the noise level was comfortable.
In Vail for our 35th anniversary & had dinner & Left Bank on a Sunday evening. Light crowd so everything was prompt & quiet. Exceptional food and service. Had the filet with peppercorn sauce and it was excellent. Chocolate soufflé for desert was also excellent. Will definitely return when we are back in Vail.
A very good dinner at Left Bank but a little expensive. My friend and I ordered the half duck special. No mention was made of the price and we assumed it would around the same price as the regular duck dish on the menu which I have ordered in the past and is delicious. However when the bill arrived we learned the special was almost $60 per person. You will not go wrong on ordering just about anyything on the menu here but ask the price of specials before ordering!
I admit that my expectations are high for Left Bank. I have had wonderful meals in past years. This time was a disappointment. Escargot was over cooked, foigras was tasteless & my Duck was also over done. For the price I was dissatisfied this time. - June 2017
First visit to Left Bank. Very traditional French. Expensive but everything was excellent. Not many customers at 8:30 on a Thursday evening, unlike most other good Vail restaurants. Tables by windows have excellent view of Gore Creek. Will probably visit again, but so many interesting restaurants in Vail that it is difficult to decide where to eat each night if one only has a few days.
Found this gem while walking in Vail Village. Impeccable, friendly service. Delicious food, with great wines. I had one of the appetizer specials - Dungeness crab salad. Light, refreshing, and the right start to the meal. My main was Steak au Poivre Blanc (Beef filet, rolled in crushed white peppercorns served with a cognac cream sauce). Recommend you try this restaurant. Thanks to Alena, Brian, and Taylor for a great dining experience.
Terrific restaurant. Great wine recommendations from excellent wine list. Pepper steak was superb and all four had it with slight variations in cooking which were executed perfectly. Excellent choice salads come with dinner and appetizers and dessert were equally great. This is a 'don't miss' restaurant.
