- RPRobinPvipPhoenix / Arizona •10 reviews5.0Dined 2 days agoThe ambiance in Aba is lovely. Low lighting and greenery make the space cozy and intimate. The hostess staff was friendly and the service was great. We ordered some sparking rose ( which was from Greece and quite diffferent… more fruity and sweet) and a quite tart margarita. We started with the short rib hummus which was fantastic!! It has onions and some au jus from the beef which gave this dish a delicious taste. We also had the cucumbers which were fresh and tossed in a well- balanced sauce. We shared the halibut and the truffle orzo for dinner. The orzo was delicious, with mushrooms and a great Parmesan breadcrumb topping. Halibut is my favorite fish and unfortunately it was undercooked and quite chewy, not flaky as it should be which was rather disappointing. I would definitely come back and try a different main entree. Also. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and it was noted in our reservation but I’m not sure why… as there was no acknowledgment other than a well wish upon checking in.More infoAba - AustinPrice: Very Expensive• Mediterranean• East Austin•4.8
- RRobertNew Orleans / Louisiana •1 review5.0Dined 2 days agoEvery month, my girlfriend and I have been going to some of the best restaurants in Austin. Although we've thoroughly enjoyed just about every one, Red Ash is the first where we were not let down by anything. Booked bar seating two months out and happened to get what we eventually agreed were the best seats in the house. Overlooking the kitchen, nestled between the wine cellar and the executive chef's final prep station. Being able to watch the kitchen staff work with no hassle, no loud noises, just a perfectly oiled machine from the pasta station to the grill to the wood fired oven, getting to see the prep of dishes similar to ours or great suggestions for our next visit. And the food, the squash blossoms were pleasantly crisp with a great pop of freshness from the herb ricotta and lemon. The prime steak bruschetta could've easily been a lovely meal all by itself. If what you order doesn't come with the bread with the garlic and cheese topping, you certainly need to order it on the side! The capelletti felt warm and homey, and should certainly inspire all the home cooks out there. The pollo alla diavolo had to be the most tender chicken I've ever had in my life, with again, the bread underneath to soak up all that jus. No skipping dessert, since everything else was top-notch, we got our waiter's recommendation for dessert, the hot chocolate gianduja cake, perfect. The light, slightly tangy gelato paired perfectly cutting through the rich soft chocolate cake with the perfect amount of peanut butter. It came together in one of the best desserts we've found. While sitting there after, we were already looking to book our next reservation. Not to mention the cost came in well below what we've spent elsewhere for far less enjoyable experiences. I mentioned the ease of the cooking staff, but the wait and bussing staff were equally as nice, calm and personable. I'd highly recommend Red Ash for an upcoming dining experience!More infoRed Ash ItaliaPrice: Very Expensive• Italian• Downtown•4.9
