Restaurants near Hapuu at Pahala Plantation Cottages

We’ve eaten here too many times to count over the years. It’s always been a favorite for breakfast and we often used to come get their bakery goods to take back to eat at our home. This time, we’re on the island as visitors and had a bday dinner here. We started with a poke bowl to share and it was amazing. The ahi was cut in nice sized cubes and melted in the mouth. We could have called that dinner but we both ordered salads, my BF the niçoise and I the beet. Both were bountiful and really more than we needed but so good, it was hard to stop eating! Then we had a piece of complimentary carrot cake just to top it all of! I’m sure we’ll be back again before this vacay is over.

Good sushi and pretty good service. We haven’t been here since we last visited Kona in 2019. The menu has changed a lot, and many dishes listed on the OpenTable are no longer available and the prices are not accurate either. Seems like they’re trying out a hybrid of a sushi steakhouse concept. I will always miss the ono (delicious) with potato—I can’t remember what it’s called. We had a couple cocktails, a very good bottle of sake, nigiri, tempura, split a sizzling ribeye (next time we will choose something other than the rather bland KP sauce), and had a delightful salad with apples, macerated raisins, greens, a bit of carrot and it was perfectly dressed.

From the time you enter through the door, you will experience exceptional service! Our hostess greeted us with a smile and sitted us to our table. The waitress was prompt and courteous. Very professional and friendly, always acknowledging and attentive to her guests. Atmosphere is welcoming and nice. Food was prepared and presented in a nice setup. Food was excellent...everything tasted very delicious! From salads to main course/entrees to dessert...we enjoyed it all! One thing that would make the atmosphere and dining experience more pleasant would be to play oldie's music (70's to early 80's or old local bands like C & K or Kalapana).

My friends and I decided to skip cooking on Thanksgiving and made a reservation at Papa Kona instead. We are SO GLAD that we did! We had an oceanside table so the views were outstanding. The Light and Dark Turkey dinner was delicious and exactly the right amount of food: three slices of turkey, truffle butter green beans with mushrooms, stuffing, mashed potatoes with chives, cranberry sauce (almost like cranberry jam), a roll, and a slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream. There were not many leftovers at our table. Our server Erin was absolutely lovely, and provided excellent service with style. Mahalo for welcoming our ohana with yours, Papa Kona!

Satisfactory food for a holiday meal. Although “regular” local white rice would be preferred. Another seafood options example Mahi, ahi , ono and crab legs options. Desserts could have more variety, whip cream or ice cream choices available. Simple inexpensive absorbent coasters for “sweating” water goblets would be practical to have rather then having water all over the tables. Buffet food warmers (some) felt awkward to open up (meaning lifting it up and back felt like it would topple, then reaching back to close lid - was awkward to ( I am short ,reaching it was a stretch). I am sure there are better easier food warmers that are easy to maneuver.
