IMHO, the Red Rooster has improved with age in terms of both food and decor. We were a party of four and tried the restaurant week (RW) menu for lunch. While the offerings for the RW were very limited, they were delicious across the board. But the $30 price fixe per person is misleading because once we added a couple of cocktails and sides (fries and corn bread), the bill with tax and tip came to a whooping $315!! The non-alcoholic Harlem Soboko alone cost $13! The problem with the cocktail and wine prices is that it doesn’t correspond to the RW deal or even the lunch menu prices. We wouldn’t mind the price of admission if the experience had turned out to be a good one overall, but the indifferent and inattebtive service left a lot to be desired. We didn’t get any service for quite a while when seated and had a hard time getting the attention of the busy staff. When in sympathy I said to our waitress that are you short-handed, she replied that “yes we are but there’s more money for me!” I believe RW can and must do better than this with some expansion of the staff and their training. I hope this constructive criticism is helpful to Mr. Marcus Samuelson whom I greatly admire.

Delicious food in generous portions, friendly and gracious service, extraordinary hospitality, reasonable prices. The only minus: Our entrees took an unusually long time to emerge. But that could have been an anomaly. And they were well worth the wait.
