Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducasse.”

Better overall experience, particularly the food, than our prior visit some time ago. The atmosphere has always been pleasant and can’t beat the 12 for $12 lunch specials for value and variety. Regular munu also tops in selection. Service is another strong suit here, as are bar drinks. Parking is not an issue.

I have to say from the moment we walked in our service was excellent. We got there early. They seated us quickly. The restaurant is very well appointed the people are very nice and very professional. The food is excellent, and my server was equally excellent. Additionally, they are very well priced. I will definitely go back there again and I’m recommending it to everyone I know.

We love bringing out of town guests here. Always great seafood, service, and a great setting in Merchant Square area. All menu options recommended and $1 oysters daily to 7 are one of our favorite starters.

We had an amazing experience! Love the ambience, candlelight, guitar player, and the food and drinks were phenomenal. I highly recommend the beef steak. It seriously was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. We had the King’s Arm punch that was brought to us in a punch bowl and it was delicious as well.

Excellent dover sole and probably one of the best veal piccata dishes I have had in ages. Soup and salad starters were first rate as well. They have a large menu encompassing all the French standards and favorites plus a good cocktail and wine selection. Great ambience for a busy restaurant--not too loud for conversation. Service was a bit slow to begin with, but I think our server was dealing with a problem diner who took extra time as service smoothed out after cocktails.
