Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducasse.”

Best waiter ever. Great voice and sense of humor, knew every item on menu well. Perfect service - attentive but not overbearing. From start to finish 5 star. Only glitch was lukewarm coffee at the end. But this was meaningless as even the desserts were fantastic. An almost perfect menu and presentation and portions were just right. A meal to remember. 👏👏👏

The food was excellent s always. The noise was loud until one of the tables left, they were very loud. Our wait time was exceptionally long, but we were compensated for that. Your manager is awesome, he is on top of everything, excellent!!! And, the prices are right on. Always a most pleasant experience!!! And, we WILL be back, love this place and the food!!,

The most delicious dinner. We had the Fish Pye. It was amazing. The room was lit by candlelight. The servers were dressed in colonial dress. Besides serving the food the two in our room bantered back and forth with history of the tavern. Very entertaining. Loved it!

We decided to go to here for our anniversary dinner in Colonial Williamsburg - what a great choice! Our server Marnie was friendly, and she took such good care of us. The room we were in had 4 tables, with a rotation of 2 tables seated at a time. This made for an intimate setting and good pacing. Now on to the food. It's delicious and well-priced. I ordered the Seafood in parchment special, which included salmon fillet, shrimp, and scallops over orzo, corn relish, and caramelized onions. Everything was cooked to perfection! My husband had the Berret's Blue Plate which included crab cake, Oysters Rockefeller, and a shrimp skewer. Again, lovely presentation and so good! We were so pleased with our evening out and how Marnie made us feel special. It's no wonder this restaurant has been around for years; it combines great food and service in a tourist area, making each customer feel like a special guest.

Definitely make a reservation if you are coming on a slower day. We did so and had a great experience. The service was friendly and accommodating, and while the menu is written in oldish English, they will help explain the dishes. I had that trout which was a full fish and I highly recommend it. My partner got the beef steaks which were well seasoned but a little gristly. Overall, the ambiance was great and definitely a must-do in Colonial Williamsburg. I particularly enjoyed the musician who went room-to-room serenading the guests. Oh, also get the punch bowl!
