For centuries, a taverna has been a neighborhood gathering place where friends can meet to eat, drink and enjoy life. Taverna co-founders Thanasis Pashalidis and Hakan Bala were raised with a shared ethical compass, which the Greeks call "philotimo" or "love of honor". Family and friends are their ingredients of life, and they believe that nutrition, happiness and health are all directly correlated. Both partners have been culturally influenced by the remedies of the old world and incorporate them into the lifestyle of Taverna. Both have an "ethos" that drives them and inspires others to live fully, which they consider the flavor of life's success. They understand that life is to be enjoyed and that time is of the essence. They are aware that every day is a gift. Taverna has been created to make people happy and feel alive.

This restaurant was recommended by my girlfriend, with whom I dined earlier this month. We had Erik as our waiter, and he was charming, and helpful with recommendations. We enjoyed wonderful tapas and some refreshing mocktails. Started out with the tomate salad, which consisted of Buratta with strawberries, avocado, peeled grapes and dots of Romesco sauce and chopped pistachios! Refreshing and wonderful. Followed by the Crab croquetas with Ahi tuna and aioli. These were a one or two bite delights of creamy crab filled lightly breaded croquettes, simply amazing! Then we enjoyed the pan con tomate with chorizo butter! Classic! Next we devoured the Spanish meatballs! There are no words to describe how simply amazing these were! And finally, we had the Gambia's Al Ajillo, the gulf shrimps with peserved lemon and crispy garlic. We were transported back to Barcelona! Absolutely amazing, would have loved more bread to soak up all that wonderful sauce! Eric was such a caring and attentive server! He treated us to a dessert of Torrija, much to our surprise. I enjoyed this dining experience so much, went back again with my hubby! Once again, we had Eric as our server! He remembered me and was "welcomed back"! This time we added the Patatas Bravas, the Empanadas and Churros con Nutella! Eric was so sweet, once again, since I had mentioned the Torrija, he brought it for us! So sorry that I did not get photos of the desserts or the dishes we had this trip! I will definitely return as this is now our favorite Spanish Tapas place near home, without getting on a plane or two to eat it there!
