Walk-in's always welcome! Screen Door is a restaurant that presents itself as a love letter to the American South and the revival of regional cooking. Each day, the restaurant receives natural, local organic meats and produce from nearby vendors. The inclusion of regional Pacific Northwest ingredients into a menu of dishes developed in the south has created a unique flavor profile in Screen Door's menu. Many of Screen Doors dishes draw their inspiration from Louisiana and the Cajun cooking that's found there. These include our world-famous Fried Chicken, Lowcountry shrimp and grits, smoked andouille chicken gumbo and fried okra. Other items, like the house-smoked beef brisket and braised pork shoulder, come straight from the state of Texas. The rest of the South is well represented as well with a Carolina pulled pork sandwich, chicken and waffles, crispy fried oysters and a pimiento cheese & sausage biscuit sandwich with a fried egg and cheddar grits.

We made a reservation to do the Rice Table. We arrived right when they opened since our reservation was at 5pm. The ambience is casual with nice decor. The Rice Table includes a tremendous amount of food and an excellent variety. All of the chili sauces were perfect condiments for the dishes. Some of our favorites were the satay, the roti, and the clams, but everything truly was delicious and the staff was fantastic - everyone was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. We really loved our experience. My parents were born and raised in Indonesia so we grew up eating the "real stuff" and it was wonderful to be able to have high quality versions of the dishes that we grew up with. One of the chili sauces was something that my Mom used to make all of the time. It was such a lovely taste of home done so well.

Portland City Grill is always a fun experience. From the 30th floor of Portland's "Big Pink" the views can be spectacular, and usually are. Over my twenty years as a resident of the Portland area I have been to Portland City many times. Actually my first date, after moving to Portland, was in the bar at Portland City Grill. I have enjoyed the restaurant with many family and friends, and they are always at the ambiance, service, food, and of course the view. I took a friend there for Thanksgiving Dinner in 2024, the restaurant had a special Thanksgiving Dinner meal, with all the fixings included. We had a wonderful view of Mount Hood. The staff provided excellent service, even with the restaurant being very busy, we still felt well cared for, and the meal was terrific.

Nostrana remains one of our favorite all time restaurants in Portland. Like an extension of home - we come back again and again because they simply make delicious food. Classics that remain just that: Classic along with little spins or specials that we can't help but try out. The late night HH is a bonus!!

Kachka has been on my bucket list for years, and it absolutely lived up to my expectations. Growing up in the same Russian-Jewish community in the suburbs of Chicago as Chef Bonnie, the experience felt deeply personal—like a nostalgic trip home, but elevated in every way. The menu was not only fun but incredibly thoughtful; you can tell so much care went into curating both the dishes and the space. The service was fantastic, and I have to give a special shoutout to one of the food runners who delivered each dish with an intensity that made the experience even more memorable. My favorite part of the dinner was sampling the different flavored vodkas. The birch flavor was phenomenal and stood out as my favorite, with horseradish coming in a close second. And do not miss the apple dessert—it tasted like something my mom used to make, but somehow even better. Kachka is everything I hoped it would be and more. I can’t wait to come back!
