Incredible food at very reasonable prices considering how large the portions are! I ordered the mole enchiladas and it was the best mole I’ve had in a long time. Not too sweet, with very tender chicken inside. The beef picadillo in the queso dip was also so flavorful and well-seasoned.
Never the best but always consistent.
Mediocre at best. Stay with simple dishes. My salmon with poblano sauce failed because of poor quality fish
The decor was festive but the noise level made it difficult for easy conversation. I had a salad with chicken, and the taste was fine, but a piece of tendon or fat was left on the sides of the chicken pieces which made it difficult to cut and unapetizing to eat (chewy and stringy). I liked the cucumbers, avocado and carrots on the salad. My friend ordered cheese enchiladas, and the cheese inside looked similar to the cheese inside a fried mozzarella stick. The cheese was hot, but not melty, though; it was stiff. She was not a fan of the taste. The guacamole that came with it was pureed completely and did not have good texture or flavor. The refried black beans were delicious. We both ordered a side of them, and my large portion came in a separate bowl, whereas her smaller portion came on the plate with her enchiladas. Not sure why the discrepancy.
The server came initially, and I asked him to "give me one minute" to decide about my order. Fifteen minutes later, he still had not returned. I had to ask the hostess if she could please send our waiter to the table; the restaurant did not appear to be really busy, either.
Because of the slow service and mediocre food, I do not plan on returning.
By far the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had. I asked for my food to be taken back and ordered something different and was still disappointed. I will never eat here again
Delicious soups and mole enchiladas. Freshly squeezed limeade.
Good service good food
I. Love. This. Place
I. Know. The. Trevino. Family
Been. Coming. Here. For. Years!!
The fajitas for 2 is always a go to and Friday nights they have margarita specials which are fantastic and 2 can eat and have drinks for around $65 and it’s really good
This has been our go to restaurant for over 20 years. The best for all things taco!
GREAT FOOD & GREAT DRINKS!!! I'M USUALLY A SMALL EATER & THE A LA CARTA FOOD ITEMS WERE PERFECT PORTIONS FOR ME! I WILL DEFINITELY DINE IN AGAIN! -MT
Been eating there for 20 + years. Always great food, very consistent. Service is always good. Most of the wait staff, & the cooks, bartender & hostess have been there since we first started going. It is still family owned and operated so you often see family members there working right alongside the rest of the staff.
Angus steak fajitas tasted very good and portion sizes for all meals was more than enough. Salsa for chips tasty with good spice. Not sure I liked the seat yourself. I made a reservation but only table available was in the outdoor patio so it was very cold and had to wear our jackets. There wasn't a drink menu so unsure of what cocktail options were available. Overall prices slightly high.
La Mexicana is such a great place with good food at a great value.
I would love to give you all 4 stars but not impressed. The food was okay but the service was horrible. The waiter took a bit longer and did not know how to make change. While the food was okay and colorful it was still missing something. I live 4 min. Away and was trying something new. Lesson learned sometimes not the best.
My personal view is that the atmosphere has to be as good as the food. Food was good but the restaurant tired and old. Too other good restaurants in the neighborhood that would be a better find.
Terrible place terrible service!!!! Never will be back.
Service was Slow and moderately friendly. Overpriced.
Food and Service were great !!!
Waiters were nice and service was great. Food, in particular the meat was horrible. Chicken and pork had a smell to it. Beef was ok.
Slow inattentive service. Fajitas tough, tasteless. Would not return
The service is EXTREMELY slow... As a guest, you don't seem like the priority and you can see waiters hanging around taking drink breaks. One waiter took our drink order and when we tried to signal him, he acted like we were strangers and someone else came to take the order. The new waiter didn't understand what I was asking for so I changed my order. Food is good but the service keeps me from coming back.
Excellent dishes, too much to eat. Service was terrific and fast!
I can't believe I have lived in Houston 50 years and missed this Mexican restaurant. Authentic, loud and great food, everything a Mexican restaurant should be.
This is a very good Mexican restaurant located in the Montrose area of Houston or the Gayberhood. The food is very good and very tasty. I recommend trying their beef fajita plates and of course chicken fajita plates. The tortillas are little thin for my taste but other than that the seasoning is just right. The service is very good they have a traditional set up where the males are the servers and the females do all the cooking. This is a must see in Houston. The margaritas are phenomenal. Don't forget to pick up some Mexican candy before you leave The restaurant.
Good service and good food! Friendly environment!
Please see the headline above. We won't be headed back any time soon.
I met friends for dinner, was expecting a "nicer" venue, we were over-dressed but the atmosphere was nice and comfortable. The food was good but our waiter was outstanding. Very friendly staff, I would dine here again with the kids.
Great for big parties!!!
We have always eaten here but planned a birthday party with a large group that got bigger and the were able to accommodate all of us. Great food, great atmosphere!
Avg cheap tex mex eats, except without the cheap part. Lunch for 2 $55 with only 1 glass of house wine.
The food was ok at best if it wasn't for their pleasant attitude I would have been very disappointed. We order a pitcher of margaritas and not only was it very expensive at 34 it was water down you couldn't taste the tequila
Tried this place for the first time. Very attentive wait staff. The food was very bland for Tex-Mex. Portions were good size. But, just lacked much flavor.
We love La Mexicana for a casual dinner. The wait staff is efficient. Their friendliness is infectious; everyone seems to be in a good mood. The menu is extensive, so we never get tired of dining here.
