La Mer at Halekulani
Need to book at 5:15 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Service and dessert was great! But this is what I call a bring your magnifying glass to dinner place. Because you're gonna need it to see your food. I ate my entree in 2 bites (it was $60). Enough said
This was an outrageously expensive and disappointing meal. Situated in one of the main upscale hotels of Waikiki, the expectation created by the descriptions that I had accessed were high but they really missed the mark. From the simple management of a vodka tonic with the waiter forgetting the tonic to mix and using a glass too small for proper mixing (the bar must have run out of clean glasses...?) to waiting over an hour to serve the main entree, we felt like we were “fill in” diners that they honored us with their service. We only had a three course meal with good appetizers, but my wife’s red snapper was tasty but grainy so to speak (overcooked?) and my abalone was more rubbery with minimal taste than I recall from other times I had eaten it. I have to say the dessert soufflé was very good but by the time we got to it it was anticlimactic and my wife actually feeling queasy from her main course. I expected a large bill but have felt cheated for having to pay so much for such disappointment. In regard to service, we received more attention from our bread and water attendant than our primary waiter. It is a beautiful setting but missed the mark in the most significant way- delivery of an the exceptional meal advertised.
Unforgettable! We partner and I chose to dine at La Mer for an early Valentines celebration. From the moment we walked in we were treated like royalty, there was not a single detail overlooked.
Our server Chip took great care of us, making sure we were not in want of anything for a moment. The sommelier (I think his name was Kevin), came out to suggest a different wine than the bottle we originally chose, and we were grateful for the recommendation.
The chef was very gracious in making modifications due to my shellfish allergy and every course was perfection. We loved that he took classic dishes and put his own spin on them, making them unique and memorable. In particular we could not get over how incredible the scallop dish tasted!
The ambiance was elegant and serene, we felt fortunate to be seated at table 25, looking over the ocean while eating an amazing meal. I cannot praise the staff enough, who were all fantastic.
In short, Le Mer is exquisite.
The staff and the ambience were outstanding! The food was wonderful, both in presentation and taste!
The absolute best fine dining venue in Honolulu. Quiet, intimate, pampered, delicious. Cost is very reasonable for value.
The food and the shop people were great
Mahalo for yet another wonderful evening and delicious dinner at your beautiful, elegant and peaceful restaurant. See you again next time I am in town. - Wolfgang.
Excellent service and food!!! Definitely lives up to all expectations! The service was great to making reservations, special seating request, and dinner service. Just excellent!! I will definitely be back! Thank you!!
Food is excellent, service is friendly. I will visit again when I visit Hawaii again !
Best Memories in honeymoon
The ambiance, service and view were amazing! I don’t feel, however, that the food was worthy of the high prices. I had other equally exceptional meals at other local, less expensive restaurants.
La Mer is our favorite restaurant in Honolulu.
Food quality and services are always excellent .
Good wine selection especially they have many half bottles to choose from .
Chip was a superb waiter. The table by the window was private enough to allow us to feel like honored guests.
I chose the restaurant as the place where I gave a marriage proposal. It was success and was a memorable one because the food, service and ambience were awesome! Our table was right next the seashore and it was special enough to celebrate our engagement! I really recommend others to use the restaurant as a special place:)
One of guests retired recently and dinner at La Mer was her wish. Started with Taittinger champagne Waiter recommended 4 course after hearing our menu interests. Staff was well-dressed, knowledgeable, and outgoing. The 3 types of bread were warm and very soft. I had the seafood carousel as a appetizer, with the roasted John Dory and lobster bisque. One of the guests selected an Onaga fish dish The next day at our favorite sushi restaurant, the chef said that Onaga was unavailable and couldn't believe she had it All four of us selected cheese for dessert. Our waiter identified the 8+ cheeses formally and with humor - goat, round, and hard as a rock. He then asked us individually for our choices and carved them. He also advised us that our second champagne choice was sweeter and recommended a Billecart extra dry. Two of my guests have traveled to France and appreciated the sauces that were not oily and had flavors created by proper preparation. Overall, I believe the four course is the best value.
I had two dinners at La Mer during a recent trip to Honolulu. Both were among the best dining experiences I've had anywhere in the world--from food to atmosphere to service--and that includes Le Bernadin in New York. It just doesn't get any better than this. If you go, ask to be seated at one of Alex's tables. He's been there for 30 years, so that tells you a lot about the establishment. The bartender makes a perfect Absinthe, and a generous one at that. One suggestion, while an ocean view is nice, ask for a table overlooking the courtyard. That way you get to hear and perhaps see the entertainment below. It's great as well.
If you have a special occasion to celebrate, and are ready to pay for it, this is the place for you.
This is one of the best restaurants I have dined at.
We lucked out-I had booked through Open Table and clicked on the WRONG date! We showed up and the staff could not have been more gracious. We were seated right away and the evening just kept getting better. The service was impeccable, as was the food. Perfect mix of flavors and presentation. BE SURE TO BOOK A WINDOW TABLE ON THE OCEAN SIDE BEFORE SUNSET!
This restaurant is a very close call food-wise with Chef Mavro, but the setting and service make it rise above. This is the best restaurant in Honolulu, and one of the best in the world.
Fantastic food, service and view. Couldn’t have been better.
A fantastic experience! Great food, great service, great ambience simply outstanding.Whilst expensive it’s worth every cent.Highly recommended.
Tasting menu with wine pairings was excellent! Not too much or too little, and many wonderful flavors and combinations. We were also able to sit by a window and enjoy the band playing outdoors by going early. Made for a wonderful ambiance.
Food was good but very unusual choices prepared creatively. Limited menu, but I’m sure staff would be willing to accommodate any palate.
La Mer is full of romance, great service, delicious food, and beautiful views of Diamond Head and the beach. It is a place to celebrate special occasions or just being alive with someone you love!
Great service, beautiful view and delicious food. The price for a vegetarian menu was a bit high but everything else made the experience worth it.
Food is average nothing special aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Enjoyed all aspects. Will definitely return.
New year’s dinner.
Great food, great staff, very relaxing open air so you can hear the live music outside.
Came here for Christmas Day dinner on our honeymoon. Service was spectacular, they really were warm and welcoming. The food was excellent, well worth the price. Truly a fine dining experience. If you need a place to celebrate a special occasion or have a wonderful dinner, come here

Celebrated our Christmas Eve here. The food wasn't particularly fascinating. Everything was lacking in taste. The waiter was unprofessional making mistakes with our order for example mother and I ordered medium rare and my father ordered a medium for our main filet mignon...however mother and I got medium and my father got medium-rare. Also for our fish, I have coconut allergy so the chef made different sauce. However, when the sauce came to my father sauce is with coconuts so I wanted to make sure which one doesn't and the waiter didn't know... And the waiter didn't even apologise for the mistake and brought a port wine 🍾 whether the mother and I like it or not. Should have said the reason why he brought the port wine. We already ordered a bottle of white wine already very peculiar. I've never been to a restaurant where the waiter is poorly mannered and whenever we said thank you, he just ignored and frowned. Spent 1150 dollars for three and definitely not worth any penny. We just ordered a bottle of sparkling water and charged two bottles. Probably opened one without asking us whether we wanted it more or not. In fact, he was pouring into another table as well. We had to ask to have our wine to be filled because they couldn't care less and the course took more than 3 hour10 min. Made us want to leave the table.
