La Mer at Halekulani
Chip was a superb waiter. The table by the window was private enough to allow us to feel like honored guests.
I chose the restaurant as the place where I gave a marriage proposal. It was success and was a memorable one because the food, service and ambience were awesome! Our table was right next the seashore and it was special enough to celebrate our engagement! I really recommend others to use the restaurant as a special place:)
One of guests retired recently and dinner at La Mer was her wish. Started with Taittinger champagne Waiter recommended 4 course after hearing our menu interests. Staff was well-dressed, knowledgeable, and outgoing. The 3 types of bread were warm and very soft. I had the seafood carousel as a appetizer, with the roasted John Dory and lobster bisque. One of the guests selected an Onaga fish dish The next day at our favorite sushi restaurant, the chef said that Onaga was unavailable and couldn't believe she had it All four of us selected cheese for dessert. Our waiter identified the 8+ cheeses formally and with humor - goat, round, and hard as a rock. He then asked us individually for our choices and carved them. He also advised us that our second champagne choice was sweeter and recommended a Billecart extra dry. Two of my guests have traveled to France and appreciated the sauces that were not oily and had flavors created by proper preparation. Overall, I believe the four course is the best value.
I had two dinners at La Mer during a recent trip to Honolulu. Both were among the best dining experiences I've had anywhere in the world--from food to atmosphere to service--and that includes Le Bernadin in New York. It just doesn't get any better than this. If you go, ask to be seated at one of Alex's tables. He's been there for 30 years, so that tells you a lot about the establishment. The bartender makes a perfect Absinthe, and a generous one at that. One suggestion, while an ocean view is nice, ask for a table overlooking the courtyard. That way you get to hear and perhaps see the entertainment below. It's great as well.
If you have a special occasion to celebrate, and are ready to pay for it, this is the place for you.
This is one of the best restaurants I have dined at.
We lucked out-I had booked through Open Table and clicked on the WRONG date! We showed up and the staff could not have been more gracious. We were seated right away and the evening just kept getting better. The service was impeccable, as was the food. Perfect mix of flavors and presentation. BE SURE TO BOOK A WINDOW TABLE ON THE OCEAN SIDE BEFORE SUNSET!
This restaurant is a very close call food-wise with Chef Mavro, but the setting and service make it rise above. This is the best restaurant in Honolulu, and one of the best in the world.
Fantastic food, service and view. Couldn’t have been better.
A fantastic experience! Great food, great service, great ambience simply outstanding.Whilst expensive it’s worth every cent.Highly recommended.
Tasting menu with wine pairings was excellent! Not too much or too little, and many wonderful flavors and combinations. We were also able to sit by a window and enjoy the band playing outdoors by going early. Made for a wonderful ambiance.
Food was good but very unusual choices prepared creatively. Limited menu, but I’m sure staff would be willing to accommodate any palate.
La Mer is full of romance, great service, delicious food, and beautiful views of Diamond Head and the beach. It is a place to celebrate special occasions or just being alive with someone you love!
Great service, beautiful view and delicious food. The price for a vegetarian menu was a bit high but everything else made the experience worth it.
Food is average nothing special aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Enjoyed all aspects. Will definitely return.
New year’s dinner.
Great food, great staff, very relaxing open air so you can hear the live music outside.
Came here for Christmas Day dinner on our honeymoon. Service was spectacular, they really were warm and welcoming. The food was excellent, well worth the price. Truly a fine dining experience. If you need a place to celebrate a special occasion or have a wonderful dinner, come here

Celebrated our Christmas Eve here. The food wasn't particularly fascinating. Everything was lacking in taste. The waiter was unprofessional making mistakes with our order for example mother and I ordered medium rare and my father ordered a medium for our main filet mignon...however mother and I got medium and my father got medium-rare. Also for our fish, I have coconut allergy so the chef made different sauce. However, when the sauce came to my father sauce is with coconuts so I wanted to make sure which one doesn't and the waiter didn't know... And the waiter didn't even apologise for the mistake and brought a port wine 🍾 whether the mother and I like it or not. Should have said the reason why he brought the port wine. We already ordered a bottle of white wine already very peculiar. I've never been to a restaurant where the waiter is poorly mannered and whenever we said thank you, he just ignored and frowned. Spent 1150 dollars for three and definitely not worth any penny. We just ordered a bottle of sparkling water and charged two bottles. Probably opened one without asking us whether we wanted it more or not. In fact, he was pouring into another table as well. We had to ask to have our wine to be filled because they couldn't care less and the course took more than 3 hour10 min. Made us want to leave the table.
First, location, scernery, atmosphere is the best. The staff's manner is polite and excellent. Of course, tastes splendid! All of all is supreme!
The service at LaMer was excellent. The food, very good. For a fine dining restaurant with a bull for two people over $800 (3 courses) we would have appreciated the bread or rolls to at LEAST be warm and not rock hard. Disappointing for the price paid.
This was my first time dining at this restaurant and my last. For the prices they charge I had high expectations for the food but was a bit disappointed. The ambiance is lovely and the wait staff was very attentive and polite. My husband and I came for our anniversary. We both got the four coarse meal and a bottle of wine. In order to get the tasting menu everyone at the table has to get it. I been to plenty of restaurants that don’t make everyone at the table do the tasting. The food was okay, my Lobster bisque was a bit salty for my taste. The beef tomahawk had a lot of fat on it. Also keep in mind this place a strict dress code. I read ahead of time so I made sure we were within dress code. There was live music playing down below which was nice and so was the view. Our bill came up to to over 500$. It's a bit over priced which is the main reason this would be our only time going.
Wenn Sie sich verwöhnen lassen möchten und Ihren Geschmacksknospen neue Erkenntnisse mit einem aussergewöhnlichen Service gönnen möchten sind Sie hier genau richtig!
With the exception of one year, my friends & I have been dining annually at La Mer since 2001. La Mer never fails. The food and its presentation is always excellent and I swear the menu gets better each year under the reign of Chef Trancher. The fish entree wrapped in daikon & the seafood carrousel appetizer were superb--both recommended by our La Mer captain, Kalena. His recommendations are not my norm and decided to step out of the box this dining experience and was so happy I did.
Now to the service--I know La Mer has a slew of new wait helps so it was a nice experience to be waited on by Kalena, one of the newer addition. The seasoned wait helps has done an exceptional job mentoring the new additions providing continuity in service excellence. La Mer--you're flawless and again thank you to Kalena, Mark & Dan for another superb dining experience and Alex (manager on duty) for always welcoming my friends & I.
We enjoyed our dinner immensely, especially the seafood carousel appetizer. The portions were very generous and delicious. Thanks to Lawrence and the rest of the staff for making our meal a memorable experience. A table by the beach didn’t hurt either.
Visiting from Maui for one day. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was so relaxed and friendly.
Outstanding creative French fresh seafood and classic cuisine perfect for foodies! Outstanding wine list with wide selection of vintage including half-bottles to make creative wine-pairing a breeze even for small parties of 2 persons. Spectacular waterfront vista with gorgeous sunset views. Excellent staff. A true dining gem. Elegant (long pants and dress shirt required).
Amazing food and service! Great atmosphere, highly recommend
Outstanding atmosphere, excellent service
Good food even if the portions are quite small
Cumpleaños muy agusto!!!
Great experience, again. But perhaps it is time for renewal of the menues?
I heard this was one of the best in Ohau. I would definitely say, I was not disappointed.
We ordered couple of drinks and focused on main course and dessert. Everything was delicious...also chef surprised us with couple of small plates.
Again an expensive place , but it was worth it. I will go again.
Nothing remarkable, over hyped and priced.
Limited menu, good wine list, but very expensive even for American wine.
