Like all the restaurants in the Rincon 38 group, the food is amazing and the place is unique. It almost feels like you are dining in a friend's home. Intimate space with a lively vibe.
Always amazing food. This place is a diamond in the rough.
AMAZING FOOD! Loved the queso with chorizo!
Had reservations for 6:30 on Valentine’s Day. There were multiple couples that had reservations at the same time and we all had to wait about 15-20 post reservations to sit down. They did offer to serve drinks while we waited, but it’s a very small waiting area. Although the food and service when we sat down was great.
Great food and evening! We made two orders that the waiter said he would check on, side of tortillas and a beer order, and he never followed through with verbal feedback or the order. Maybe just overwhelmed on Valentines evening. Will try again at some point.
Food and drink were excellent. We had the guacamole and ceviche as starters and the haddock and snapper. All were very well balanced and flavorful. It was Valentine’s Day and the restaurant was packed so there were a few service errors that I wouldn’t anticipate on a regular night. The Tegroni cocktails were good- tequila replaced the gin in a negroni.
Wonderful Valentines Day eve experience! Our server was attentive and gave us great advice
Limited menu, but both selections we had were EXCELLENT! Will go back during summer to sit out on patio and have another of their awesome margaritas!
We really enjoyed our meal with friends at La Fresca ! We are frequent diners at Rincon 38 and were anxious to try this restaurant in the group owned by Hector Ruiz. First of all, the restaurant is tiny so I suppose it could get very loud but it was fine the night we were there. The decor is very informal. Every morsel was delicious! Husband had the Carne Asada which was outstanding and I had a salad and the appetizer portion Mariscos Calavacitas which was also mouthwatering and not too rich. Desserts were also excellent, especially the Key Lime Pie. We will definitely return to this neighborhood treasure!
La Fresca is a fabulous example of high end Mexican gastronomy. The food is well planned and executed with excellent ingredients. The combination of flavors plays so well in each dish. I recommend the halibut or the snapper. Great service as well. A neighborhood gem.
Awesome food except for the creme brulee which was tasty but didn't care for the texture
What a hidden gem! La Fresca was perfect for a quiet date night on a Wednesday in January. It is TINY and I could easily see it getting really loud and crowded on a popular night, or when the patio is open. However, it was cozy and perfect for this evening.
We started with some incredible guacamole - tangy and smooth, plenty of flavor. There was just enough for my husband and I to split, and the amount of chips was exactly right for the amount of guac. My husband had the Carne Asada, which he deemed "the best carne asada he'd ever had" - it was done perfectly medium per his request and came with a nice portion of au gratin potatoes. I had the AguasCalientes and it was so tender and flavorful. The fish had a beautiful pistachio crust and was flaky and firm with great flavor, while the spinach and green slaw on top were tangy and complimented it perfectly. It all came in a nice tower presentation - atop a baked cake of truffle polenta - which easily withstood the demands of all the other flavors, and came through with a savory base. It was all heavenly!
The espresso creme brulee was rich and flavorful - and although it looked a little odd after we cracked into the caramel crust, the flavor was totally worth it.
La Fresca is definitely on our list of places to return - it has the vibe of a trendy neighborhood nook with the attitude of a high-end bistro. Really lovely service too - big compliments to the whole crew. Truly enjoyable and definitely one of Minneapolis's best little places near Lake Harriet.
Everything tasted so good. This was our second time eating here and we brought our kids. They loved it as well. And that Tres Leches cake was outstanding!!
Awesome food, friendly service, everything I always expect at a Hector Ruiz restaurant ☺️
The food at La Fresca never disappoints. We went with a group of 10 people for New Year's Eve and enjoyed a delicious meal.
Everything we ate was delicious. I'm looking to forward to our next visit.
This was our first visit to La fresca and we were not disappointed! I’m still thinking about the food. The flavors were exceptional, the appetizer Mariscopa (?) was my favorite with the scallops and shrimp. And the desserts... heavenly! We loved the atmosphere-just a quaint neighborhood place. We were able to talk and be heard as well. Service was excellent and the food came quickly. We were so glad we have gift certificates for our kids to try. And we will definitely be back!
My boyfriend took me to dinner here for my birthday. We split a cheesy appetizer with chips, and a very fresh salad. I had excellent scallops in a great sauce, and my boyfriend had beef tenderloin. The beef was indeed tender, and, somewhat amazingly, there was a lot of it.
Oh, and I forgot the drinks; I had a traditional margarita, and he something unusual (but I can't remember the name of it).
A very nice meal, friendly and efficient service.
We dined there on Christmas Eve. Our server was great and the food was outstanding. Overall very good dining experience. We will definitely be back!
Fresh, interesting version of Latin dishes. My friend is lactose intolerant and they were very helpful about recommending dishes and adjusting ingredients.
Wonderful place excellent food
We come here often
Delicious and lovely atmosphere
Best restaurant in Minneapolis
Delicious food and drinks! Very attentive service!
We were there on very quiet Sunday night. Had looked restaurant up online and wanted to try. We had great meal. Just the right amount. I live in Wayzata so a drive. Very different. Although the restaurant is billed as Mexican I would say this is more South American, lots of fish entries. Will come again and recommend,
Food is terrific. Environment is unpretentious. The tables are a little smooshed together making it a little uncomfortable.
Love the guacamole and fish options on the menu. They now have a full bar. Great service. It's a favorite spot.
Always good, consistent service, food quality and awesomeness.
Best Mexican food I've had in the twin cities. Fresh flavors, great ingredients and unique presentation!
Small but charming Spanish inspired eatery. Food was very good, tables are a bit tight, but some xtra room at the bar for eating. Clean, friendly staff.
Great neighborhood restaurant with unique Mexican and Latin American food. We ordered the guacamole (plenty for two diners) the empanada, which was delicious, and the mariscos con calavacitas to share. My dinner companion ordered the huanchinango which he thought was excellent. All of our dishes had very interesting presentations and lots of authentic ingredients. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The neighborhood is quiet and parking is pretty easy on side streets.
We have loved La Fresca every time we've been there and so decided to take friends there who hadn't been there before. I was embarrassed by the dinner. The food was great but that's where it ended. The restaurant was so hot, it was more comfortable outside inside than inside and it was very hot and humid outside, really miserable. We had to constantly ask for water. One of our glasses of wine brought was the wrong one, not what we'd ordered. It took FOREVER for our food to arrive and then the food didn't all arrive at the same time. Three entrees arrived first and then the other 1 was after 3 of our party were almost half way through their meals and only when we asked where it was, RIDICULOUS! We ordered dessert and that was a fiasco. The desserts also took FOREVER to come, so much so that we asked if the order had been put in and said we'd like to cancel if not. We've also really enjoyed La Fresca, it's been our go-to place that we can always get a table and the food was good as always but based on the service we will probably not be back again. I can pay less than what it costs at La Fresca and get great service at a lot of places in town.
Server was clueless. And horrible. Food was mediocre. Place was not busy. Some people left as it appeared they were waiting waaaaay too long for their food. Won’t wast my time at this place again.
We have been to this restaurant several times, but our experience this time was very disappointing. The food was generally good as usual. The wait staff pleasant. But it took nearly 40 minutes to get our first drink — and the same for appetizers. By 70 minutes we had our food finally and given our first chance at a second drink...but who could wait another 20-30 minutes? I believe they have some staffing issues. But we had a reservation and drove 30 minutes to get there. Unfortunately, just extremely disappointing.
Delicious food, our server was wonderful, a very nice place to enjoy a great night out. This is a fantastic neighborhood restaurant! Cheers
Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented on the plate. Definitely will return!
La Fresca remains one of our few favourite restaurants in Twin Cities. We visit frequently - I’d say at least a dozen times so far, and it never disappointed. Good cocktails, reasonably priced, good value wine selection.
Food is invariably high quality, well prepared, appealingly served. The staff is genuinely friendly. Just a nice place to go to and come back. By far the better of the four restaurants run by the same folks. Hope it stays as good as it is.
My wife and I had dinner on the patio which is ideal. Service, menu, food were all unexpectedly very good. We will go back soon!!
The food and service was great i would recommend this to anyone who likes mexican food with a higher end preparation to it
