Fantastic experience. Food was amazing. Just missed the beef burgundy, but the tenderloin was still awesome. Had a great Valentine's Day experience
As usual, dinner was fabulous! This is our favorite restaurant in Northern Michigan.
We had another wonderful meal at La Becasse. We went at opening with our three children. The staff was so kind and accommodating with the kids. The food was exceptional again. We had the cassoulet and beef tenderloin. We will for sure return again, any time we are near Maple City.
We always have a memorable time at La Becasse, it's unique setting and incredible food provide a perfect place to escape to any season. Great wine list that pairs well with the locally-sourced ingredients all supported by excellent wait staff. Consistently wonderful.
We had a lovely early dinner for two at La Becasse on New year’s Eve. We were seated at a cute little table for two in the back which was a little drafty, but the ambiance was actually cozy and quaint.
Began with a Cosmo for me and a martini for my husband. He enjoyed that martini with beau cheese stuffed olives so much, he ordered another one. We love the escargot here, but decided to try out the appetizer crab cakes which were on special. They turned out to be a bit fishy and the texture wasn’t lumpy — a bit of a disappointment. Next came the side salad that is included with the entree. It was fresh and yummy. Both of us ordered and thoroughly enjoyed the Mahi Mahi entrees with beurre blanc sauce and beautifully cooked veggies over rice. For dessert we ordered a chocolate cake with ice cream which was good. The coffee was piping hot and our waitress was generous with refills.
Overall, I would rate our experience an 8 of 10. We had an efficient waitress who took care of us and plan to return. It was a beautiful evening.
I have never been disappointed by a meal at La Becasse, and this time was no exception. Service is always friendly and attentive, and the food and wine are always excellent. A five star meal that isn’t inexpensive but certainly a fraction of the price you would pay for the same meal in a large city. It is always a treat to come here.
Our favorite restaurant in the world — fantastic food, incredibly romantic atmosphere, outstanding service — simply the best!
We had a beautiful meal right before the holiday rush. The food and service was fabulous as always.
Great overall. This was the December wine dinner. Six course dinner, very special , don’t miss these, wine was great, good value
Wonderful food! Great wine. Enjoyed very much.
The service is always good as is the food. A true treasure in the county & their escargot is amazing !
Excellent food and wine selection. Server seemed a tad bit taxed as there were slight gaps in service. The cold air kept blowing at our table past the velvet curtain.
We came for the Friday night seafood special ($25 for glass of wine and a seafood “special”) Well the seafood special was beyond one of the grossest things I’ve ever been served. It was truly not edible. Our server never asked us how it was-it seemed like he almost knew it was terrible. Everything was pleasant but sadly because of this experience I don’t think we will go back.
So sorry that you didn't enjoy the seafood special! The flatbread preparation was new for us, and it was enjoyed by others that evening. I wish so much that you had spoken up while you were in the dining room so that we could have replaced it. Please know that it is our hope that you truly enjoy your meal, and we are happy to work hard to make sure you do. That said, please come back and give us another try!
While I have enjoyed a number of meals at La Becasse in the past, I fear that I will not be going back anytime soon. Our reservation was for 7 p.m. on a Friday evening. We arrived a few minutes. Parking was quite difficult, as the limited lot spaces were full and the only available parking was along the dark street, with light poles, driveways, and mailboxes interspersed along the way. And it was raining...
The restaurant was nearly full at the time of our arrival. Our server indicated initially that he was relatively new to the restaurant and therefore was not familiar with everything as he should be. There seemed to be a lot of lag time between visits to the table and completion of task, i.e. order and delivery. We ordered pate to share. It was fine. We ordered 1 house salad and 2 special salads. They were all very small. The special salad had 8 small pieces of beets with a few pieces of cheese scattered around them. This is a 'special' salad?
Duck maigret was fine, with a nice sauce. Veal noisettes were fine, with a nice sauce. Neither was particularly plentiful..and the vegetable garnishes on the plate were ludicrously small. The cassoulet for one was a HUGE portion, but almost flavorless. White beans in a tomato sauce with pieces of meat, covered in bread crumbs. There seemed to be no spices whatsoever in this dish.
We shared a profiterolles at the end of the meal. It was a delicious and literally sweet end to an okay, but not amazing evening.
I feel horrible that I talked up this restaurant so much to my traveling companions. We spent over $200, plus tip, for a meal that did not warrant this price.
The chef stopped by our table at the end of the evening to see how everything went. We said it was fine and thanked him. Who is going to tell the chef that his food was not good, to his face? Our soup and sandwiches at a small coffee shop in Traverse City the next day had far more flavor at a fraction of the cost.
Fantastic dinner! We ate a little earlier than normal (6:15), which allowed us to throughly enjoy our meal!
Food great small place so a little loud but ok. Definitely worth it!!!!
Excellent choice of entrees and wine to pair with my choice. Great staff.
This was our third dining experience at Le Becasse. Whenever we visit the Traverse Bay area we make it a special pont to make a reservation for dinner at this excellent restaurant. It has maintained its high standards over many years. It is one of our favorite restaurants, period. We started with the Escargot. A country french standard that we greatly enjoyed. My wife ordered a scallop entree that she found delightful. Seared perfectly with a terrific citrus sauce. I ordered the Cassoulet and got lost in its earthy, meaty, satisfying goodness. It was wonderfully done. Le Becasse has a surprisingly manageable wine list where you can find a good wine at a variety of price points. The only drawback of the evening is that we were unable to muster an appetite for dessert. We usually enjoy the terrific desserts and looked longingly at those that passed by in the room but we were not able to indulge that evening. I must comment that the service was first rate: amiable, attentive and unobtrusive. I highly recommend the restaurant.
Incredible food and service
Always eat here when vacationing in the Traverse City. We consider it the best restaurant in the area. Service and food are top-notch. A very large (but pricey) wine list. We always look forward to eating here and feel good afterwards. Dessert tip: the creme brulee is to die for! Can''t wait to go back again.
We once again had a great and fun evening at La Becasse. The pate was even better than usual and the rack of lamb was perfect. The private label red wine was a perfect pairing with the lamb. Whenever we are in the Traverse City area, we make an effort to dine here and once again we're glad we did.
My wife and I had never been to a restaurant like this before, and the total experience was wonderful. Jill, our server, was very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable about both food and wine. We cannot wait to dine there again.
Lovely place with amazing food, great service, and very cozy.
The food and service is always fabulous. Cozy place for anytime dining or a special occasion. We love LaBecasse.
Charming house in Maple City. White table cloths, local art work. Homey feel fantastic French food. And very nice selection of whiskeys and spirits. Attentive server. Feels like a special treat to dine here.
Lovely, delicious, great wine list. Fresh and well prepared entree’s. Does not disappoint
I visit La Bécasse every time I go Up North. It is an absolute delight and the food is always exquisite!
Outstanding food, very unique food choices that enticed our tastebuds.
We go to Traverse city twice a year, just for dining. TC has several fine restaurants, but, without fail, we always have our best meal at La Becasse.
My server was great! I was in on Tuesday at 5:15 and everything was timely.
Outstanding food. Escargot and the scallop appetizer were excellent. Salmon curry fish on main menu was good. Cod special was outstanding. So many great flavors. Service was very helpful and pleasant. Decor is simple and plain but inviting. While others have commented negatively about the velvet curtain at the entrance, I find it enchanting and practical. Keeps heat out in the hot humid summers and prevents drafts during the cold fall and winter from disturbing diners. It has a very “Up North” vibe and delivers on quality food and experience. Committed to using local sources. Outstanding wine selection. Kudos! Had lovely evening.
Hubby had the pork tenderloin. So amazingly tender with a golden crust - how was that possible? The flavor was incredible, too. It was like Ultra Pork. I had the beef burgundy special - so tender you could kiss it off the fork. The pasta with it was fragrant soft ribbons that carried an amazing sauce to my mouth. The wine list was world class. We enjoyed the modestly priced Hail Mary riesling. The warm chocolate cake was very unusual - in a crust like phyllo so it was crunchy and smooth, caramelized and super super good. The service was very attentive without interrupting our conversation. I think the waitress refilled our son's Coke glass six times - not kidding - he'd had a very active day and all rules about soft drinks were off. The folks around us all seemed to know the chef and staff and he came out to talk to them briefly and warmly. We had a fabulous, flawless meal. Kudos to all involved from suppliers to chef to waitress to all the behind the scenes folks.
Always an excellent meal. Greta food and wine list
La Becasse has been on the list of places I would like to try for quite some time. So glad we made it. It was top notch in every way and we are excited to return
We celebrated my mother’s 98th birthday. It was lovely. She enjoyed it very much. I have been a patron since the seventies and have never been disappointed. The food, the service, the ambiance has always been excellent.
La Becasse is always a great restaurant with wonderful service & ambience.
The food was delicious and the service very good, but the ambiance was very disappointing. For what we spent, I would like to see the decor much nicer. It’s very tired and the tables are very close together. The men’s restroom did not have a screen in the window and there were bugs EVERYWHERE. I don’t think we will be back.
Lovely service. Exceptional meal.
The duck was amazing. The atmosphere is always fantastic. The lemon drop martini was amazing.
