Kona Grill - Kansas City
Fantastic food ~ Service was phenomenal. Highly recommend and plan to return.
We had the Chicken Satay which was very good but your Avocado eggrolls were tasteless with a dipping sauce so sweet it was not eatable. We had already returned the potstickers due to lack of flavor. After this we decide against having a main course.
Overall - this is a restaurant with food that consistently tastes great and good drinks. I do find it to be a bit expensive, but for for the quality and taste it is worth it for a date night. I do feel staff could be a more professionally trained. Conversations overheard by the staff while they were waiting for food or drink to be ready were a bit off putting.
Kona grill was wonderful! I loved my sushi and appetizers. Those I was eating with did not eat sushi, and there are so many options to choose from for them. I recommend getting a reservation on the weekends as it gets busy.
Hostess was so friendly and kind - this was a mother’s day lunch. Mom loved her macadamia nut chicken. Waitress was super sweet and treated us like gold. Potstickers plentiful and delicious. Sea bass amazing. Must come back for sushi soon. Thank you. Great dining experience!
Delicious flavorful meals, great sushi, great service! We will definitely be back!
Ok. Not great. Service was terrific, place is old, LOUD, a little unorganized. Not the typical Kina experience. I had reservations but was told that only allowed dining room, not outside or bar area. That was a surprise
Miss the aquarium for ambiance. Otherwise, restaurant decor is not memorable. Food was really fresh and good. Service was also prompt and friendly. My only real complaint is we had a buzzing gnat at our table the whole time we were there. Mentioned something to server, but there was nothing she could do. Always worried about fruit flies/gnats in a restaurant -- makes me nervous about kitchen.
Did a good job for a large group and were friendly and kind. The only reason why they didn’t get 5 stars is because the 2 year old baby in the group received his food last and became cranky. Always bring the kids food first. Also his parents ordered shrimp fried rice for him, but he got no shrimp in his rice only pineapples.
Karly took very good care of us, made great recommendations, and was very attentive. Best sushi rolls in town!
Our waiter was very pleasant and eager to please; however, overlooked a few basics.
1. We had to ask for small plates for our appetizers
2. Appetizer plates were not cleared even after entree’s were delivered
3. One of three entree orders was incorrect but quickly corrected
Food was well prepared and tasty.
Happy hour only available in the bar area which did not seem fair.
Desserts (carrot cake & butter cake were delicious)
Very noisy, especially in the crowded bar area, acoustics are terrible.
Hostess was lethargic and appeared entirely bored/disinterested with her job. A more engaging personality would benefit the front of the house!
Our waiter was enthusiastic and worked quickly to rectify situations that came up and accommodate special requests.
Food was mostly good. My martini was definitely not a full glass, nor served at a good temperature. Server was less that good. Mediocre at best. Sushi and appetizers were great!
Sushi was delicious. Fun atmosphere!
I enjoy Kona Grill. I recommend it to my family and friends. Good selections are great and drinks are too! Staff is friendly. I will have me a seat at the table for happy hour since the weather is good. See you there!
Celebrated a birthday! The manager was extra attentive to us and very nice and gave us dessert. Carrot cake was way better than we expected. Sushi was delicious and good quality. Service was a little bit slow in the beginning but got better through our meal!
The food was good. I have a shellfish allergy and the staff was very concerned that they get it right. It was fun and lively. I wish they had a rice without shellfish to go with the salmon. We will try Kona Grill again, just for the appetizers and drinks.
Staff was very welcoming upon arrival, even though 10 minutes late. Ushered right to our booth we were met and discussed with waiter our order. We were pleased with sushi rolls, I had the Picasso sp? They were delicious and spicy hot- I was advised. Waiter even brought rolls and butter to cool off my mouth between bites. We will return!
Really loved our server and wish I could remember her name. She was on point all evening and exceeded any expectations we had. Great sushi, salad, and their brewed beer was excellent also!
Our server was amazing!
Xavier was his name.
It's hard to receive good customer service anymore and he simply made our experience worth it.
Food was excellent!
First of... our sweet server was the only good part about this dinning experience. Kona grill has dumb rules about being only walk in for the happy hour but then there is no self seating...?? They are asshats and it made no sense. Then the little front hostess could t even seat us till 20 mins after our reservation which then made me basically a walk in but I still could not have happy hour. They were clearly short staffed but our wonderful waitress was so kind and working very hard.
I will not be back to Kona grill nor recommend it to friends.
Poor service.. salad was old and limp. Complained but never saw a mananger and barely got an apology.
Date night! Everything was excellent!
Server made both beverage and food suggestions which were amazing. Service was excellent. The sea bass was delicious! We will definitely be returning when in the area.
Our server was on point! The dining area was kinda of loud. The food was good.
The appetizer order was not put in until we reminded our server after about 30 minutes. Then she offered another appetizer which never came.
The main course came two minutes after the appetizer.
Then, food we didn't order came to our table.
It was expensive for a rather disorganized meal.
Hard to believe, after visiting the Plaza regularly since 2003, and then in 97-98, we had never tried this place. Bad call. But, we finally went, and it was great. We will be back!!!
The bar area was so loud that the noise carried throughout the restaurant. This is not a quiet dining atmosphere. The food can best be described as alright and extremely overpriced. The highlight was the server was friendly and accommodating.
One of the guests in my party uses a wheelchair, I have never used OpenTable to make a reservation with special circumstances before. I made a note on the online reservation that we needed an accessible table. When I arrived, our table was ready with an accessible spot for the wheelchair, they walked us right back with no waiting and staff immediately offered us water while we got settled. Customer service was great, food was delicious as always (we stayed from cocktails through dessert!), and I really appreciate that making the reservation with a special request was so easy!
"Crab cake" sliders were disgusting and flavorless. Pad Thai was way too sweet, and had the tiniest salad shrimp. Will never return.
Always a fun and energetic atmosphere. A bustling “scene.”
If I could give zero stars I would. My husband ordered the snapper- $25 and it was so bland. Had zero taste. It was awful. I ordered the Korean Chicken sandwich at the recommendation of our waitress. I couldn’t eat it. It tasted worse than a freezer burnt piece of chicken. McDonalds would have been more satisfying than this place. Really disappointed.
Very upbeat and lively atmosphere. The food is great and the carrot cake is amazing.
For Happy Hour
Appetizers way over priced, probably 10% food cost.
I made reservations for 9:30 happy hour only to get there for my reservations and they tell me they don’t accept reservations for happy hour!! WHY is reservations on here for happy hour then? I had to wait an additional 45 minutes to be seated and the manager didn’t want to accommodate me!!
The place was packed and I think that’s the only reason the service was a bit slow. Server was great, food was great, but it was crazy loud and super busy. I think the server had too many tables to keep up with.
Overall a very pleasant experience, nice light and tasty sushi, only complaint was some of the noise from the bar area.
Food was great and prices were amazing. The door greeter/seating lady had the worst attitude and was trying to steer people away by saying there was an hour wait and we were the first on the list so it took 5 minutes. Waiters made up for her attitude and atmosphere was very fun.
